• Rep. McCarthy: No More Corporate Tax Deserters
Right now, a corporation can dodge billions in taxes just because it buys a company in another country, then claims to be headquartered there. It's known as an "inversion" and it's just another way big companies can avoid paying their fair share. Today it's Burger King, but there are a lot more companies lining up behind them. Last month, public pressure stopped Walgreens from moving abroad. Over the last few weeks, we have put Burger King on notice about their move to Canada. Now it's time we close this loophole all together. It's time to plug this loophole, and stop companies from leaving and forcing the rest of us to pick up the tab. We can't let big corporations continue to dodge taxes with high paid tax lawyers -- everyone should play by the same rules. How can we invest in education or job growth if large, profitable companies are scheming to avoid paying their fair share? We have a real opportunity to close this loophole right now -- but we've got to strike while the iron is hot. With all the scrutiny being paid to this issue while Burger King is in the process of declaring itself a Canadian company, we can push lawmakers to take up the issue. So far, Rep. McCarthy hasn't signed on in support of this common-sense idea -- that's why we need people like you take action.

  • Elon Musk: Open-Source the Taxpayer Subsidies You Seek for Tesla “Gigafactory”
***UPDATE: Tesla has announced it has accepted $1.25 billion in subsidies from the state of Nevada. Taxpayers are still in the dark about what negotiations took place & why the state arrived at a $1.25 billion subsidy package.*** Tesla Motors is staging a public auction, brazenly setting the opening bid at half a billion dollars in taxpayer subsidies for its “Gigafactory.” But like Boeing's 22-state auction that will cost Washington taxpayers more than $8 billion, these "trophy deals" cause states to overspend. Usually such auctions are secret, so taxpayers have no chance to demand disclosure. But taxpayers deserve better when ≥$500 million is at stake--especially from a company that prides itself for innovation and openness. If one of the five states overspends, you know what the other four will want to do next time. We need sunshine-antiseptic! Elon Musk: open source your subsidy application files!

  • Make the "New" 3DS Region-free
Recently, Nintendo unveiled the "New" 3DS, due for release in Japan on October 11. Nintendo has a long history of region-locking their systems, meaning that they cannot play games from other regions of the world. This policy has been the topic of scrutiny towards Nintendo, and I feel that with a new version of the 3DS system on the way, Nintendo can take the first step to removing it's region-locking by allowing the New 3DS to play 3DS games from all regions.

  • Save the Iwarimie Family from the Bottom-Feeders at Garside Homes!
In 2003, Ezekiel Iwarimie and his wife, Chioma, purchased their little piece of the “American Dream”– a home in the South Ward of Newark. Like many hard-working families trapped in inflated mortgages with predatory lending schemes the Iwarimies struggled, especially after Ezekiel lost his job as a social worker in 2009 and the family had to rely on Chioma’s income as a nurse. Unfortunately, predatory lending practices also sprouted a new bottom feeder industry of profiteers. Last year Garside Homes bought the Iwarimie family’s loan from an online scratch and dent site at a huge discount. Garside knew the family had already gone into foreclosure, but they saw dollar signs and moved quickly to make a profit from Ezekiel’s misfortune. The Iwarimies tried in good faith to negotiate a modification with Garside to save their home, but Garside refused. Instead, Garside sent two men to the home to threaten the family and demand that they turn over the original note to their home. Now, Garside has scheduled a sheriff’s sale of the Iwarimie’s home in the South Ward of Newark. Garside paid pennies on the dollar for the Iwarimie’s home…now they’re demanding the family pay them $418,000 or they lose their home! Please stand with the Iwarimie family and sign this petition!

  • Joni Ernst: Sign the People's Pledge
The Huffington Post just leaked recordings of a secret talk that Senate candidate Joni Ernst gave at the exclusive, closed-door meeting that Charles and David Koch hosted for as many as 300 billionaires earlier this summer.[1,2] She never meant for anyone other than those billionaire conservatives to hear or see this: "The exposure to this group and to this network and the opportunity to meet so many of you, that really started my trajectory." I was born and raised in Iowa, and I think it's time to clean up Iowa's elections. Joni Ernst should sign the People's Pledge--the popular agreement negotiated by Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown in their 2012 Senate race to keep elections clean and accountable to the people of their state by rejecting advertisements from outside donors on their behalf. If Ernst is truly committed to the people of Iowa, she'll sign on. If she doesn't, voters will see that she's actually committed to the Koch brothers and their network of out-of-state billionaire extreme right-wing conservatives. Support for the People's Pledge is strong across party lines-- in fact, voters are five times more likely to vote for a candidate who supports the People’s Pledge.[3] A candidate who's more committed to Iowa's voters than to out-of-state donors should have no trouble signing on. • Save Our Democracy
It is TIME to overturn Citizens United. The name does not tell the truth. The fact that a few individuals and Corporations can literally buy our Congress and House is beyond belief. When millions are given to candidates or our representatives there is no longer representation for US. but for the demands of these donors. We need to be able to trust and believe that our representatives will do the right thing. Let's bring back OUR government of the people!

  • STOP COMCASTS' ABUSIVE BILLING PRACTICES
Comcast's' lack of real time billing integration is critical to customers like myself who receives erroneous bills and have their services interrupted. Comcast capitalizes on customers who move and transfer services and attempts to disguise it (or code it)as a termination of service. They then send you out a bill which you can ill afford, and terminate your services when it is not paid. If equipment is collected at the time of termination of service, Comcast schedules a pickup but has no real time technology to track it, or so they said when they attempted to charge me $1100.00 for that incident alone . Their practices are unlawful and unfair and they should be required by law to have real time integration in all areas so that their customers are billed in real time for the right amount at the right time. Their customer service is not required to return your call if you receive a hang up which are many when calling in an issue so it goes unresolved due to countless hang ups which then impacts a customers daily life and ability to conduct business as your services will now be interrupted They should not be allowed to do this it is illegal and unfair and they are price gouging their customers. Internet, Phone and Alarm systems are critical to any household, but how can a customer maintain these services with a company that continuously persists in bad billing practices which are unlawful and creates unnecessary hardships for customers

  • Bad Faith
We want Petitioner's to share their own experiences, to help build a better understanding about how the industry is actually working and how it can be improved. We look forward to hearing from you. Most people have to handle an insurance claim once every several years. They are generally at a huge disadvantage when it comes to understanding the system and how insurance companies work. Through this petition we hope to level the playing field to force insurance companies to deal fairly with their policy holders.

I was born and raised in Iowa, and I think it's time to clean up Iowa's elections. Senate candidate Bruce Braley can do that by challenging Joni Ernst to join him in signing the People's Pledge--the popular agreement negotiated by Elizabeth Warren and Scott Brown in their 2012 Senate race to keep elections clean and accountable to the people of their state by rejecting advertisements from outside donors on their behalf. Support for the People's Pledge is strong across party lines-- in fact, voters are five times more likely to vote for a candidate who supports the People’s Pledge.[3] A candidate who's more committed to Iowa's voters than to out-of-state donors should have no trouble signing on.
