• MoveOn donors are real!
You can't make this stuff up: Secret recordings just surfaced of the Koch brothers' top lawyer talking about MoveOn. He couldn't find our name on a list of groups funded by millionaires—so he protested that the list must be wrong. The Kochs and their friends apparently can't believe you--a MoveOn donor--exist. Their political world is so dominated by billionaires that they literally can't imagine a genuine grassroots organization with millions of average Americas as members, and hundreds of thousands of $5, $50, and $500 donations. If enough MoveOn donors sign this petition, we'll print up a cheeky card to the Koch brothers' organization—signed by the thousands of MoveOn donors around the country who power our work—with the message: "We exist! And we're fighting to take our democracy back."

  • Rep. Rigell: Plug the "Burger King" loophole
Right now, a corporation can dodge billions in taxes just because it buys a company in another country, then claims to be headquartered there. It's known as an "inversion" and it's just another way big companies can avoid paying their fair share. Today it's Burger King, but there are a lot more companies lining up behind them. Last month, public pressure stopped Walgreens from moving abroad. Over the last few weeks, we have put Burger King on notice about their move to Canada. Now it's time we close this loophole all together. It's time to plug this loophole, and stop companies from leaving and forcing the rest of us to pick up the tab. We can't let big corporations continue to dodge taxes with high paid tax lawyers -- everyone should play by the same rules. How can we invest in education or job growth if large, profitable companies are scheming to avoid paying their fair share? We have a real opportunity to close this loophole right now -- but we've got to strike while the iron is hot. With all the scrutiny being paid to this issue while Burger King is in the process of declaring itself a Canadian company, we can push lawmakers to take up the issue. So far, Rep. Scott Rigell hasn't signed on in support of this common-sense idea -- that's why we need people like you take action.

  • Sprint: Paying for phones that do not receive service
I have been with sprint over 5 years and the service gets worse yearly. I'm paying over $130 a month for service that doesn't work. I constantly experience dropped calls and no data connection which means my emails and text messages will not come through. The only time service half-way work is if you're connected to Wi-Fi which doesn't help all the time either. Sprint should release all customers from their contracts free of charge if there is no coverage in their area, especially if it shows that on their website when you type in your address. It should not be legal to sell phones that don't work in certain areas.

  • Objection to Black Hills Power Rate Increase
Black Hills Power increased rates in 2008, 2012 and last year in September 2013. Now they are requesting to increase another 650 kWh per day this year. If approved, this increase will take place this October. It is unfair to the customer to increase rates for their personal expansion.

  • END NEGATIVE STEREOTYPES OF BLACK PEOPLE IN THE MEDIA NOW!!!
I see too many images of Black people that are associated with racist stereotypes. It's especially true in reality TV, the news and music videos. There are limited representations of Black people on TV and most of what's on give Black Americans bad images which, as research proves, can affect the mindset of people who watch it. I am asking for an investigation into the corporate media's practices that promote these harmful images and hold them accountable! There is racism within the media and it has to stop!

  • Elon Musk: Open-Source the Taxpayer Subsidies You Seek for Tesla “Gigafactory”
***UPDATE: Tesla has announced it has accepted $1.25 billion in subsidies from the state of Nevada. Taxpayers are still in the dark about what negotiations took place & why the state arrived at a $1.25 billion subsidy package.*** Tesla Motors is staging a public auction, brazenly setting the opening bid at half a billion dollars in taxpayer subsidies for its “Gigafactory.” But like Boeing's 22-state auction that will cost Washington taxpayers more than $8 billion, these "trophy deals" cause states to overspend. Usually such auctions are secret, so taxpayers have no chance to demand disclosure. But taxpayers deserve better when ≥$500 million is at stake--especially from a company that prides itself for innovation and openness. If one of the five states overspends, you know what the other four will want to do next time. We need sunshine-antiseptic! Elon Musk: open source your subsidy application files!
