• Replace Chris Matthews
Bernie is looking more and more like he will be the Democratic nominee, and while many are just disgusted and paying no attention to the hate spewing from Chris Matthews at this point, having a network so biased against one candidate that it continues to employ such an unprofessional "journalist" is just wrong.

  • Idaho, Start re-Funding the Education system. Stop de-funding it.
Higher education creates better paying jobs. Better paying jobs creates a better tax base. How much income tax is generated by a minimum wage paying job, compared to the income tax of an undergraduate degree pay scale? Do I need to go to the sales taxes paid by the two different incomes? Didn't think so. What started as "Trickle up" economics has turned into "Flooding up" economics. History has shown how income inequality turns out. It hasn't been pretty. We are heading, "full steam ahead" in that direction. 1929, 2008 are the years I am pointing to. The quick recovery of 2008 won't happen again. The Federal Government can't afford to bail out numerous industries again. I feel that the current state of affairs in our society are a reflection this imbalance. The political polarization. The mass shootings. The current horrific crimes being committed are a direct reflection of the terrible conditions we are experiencing. Horrific conditions are creating horrific reactions. People are struggling to eat, can't get health care because: 1) wages haven't kept up with the real cost of living. 2) We are out of options to make up the difference. When wages first began to shrink, (1978) "incomes" went from individual to "household". Mom and dad worked. Then they worked more hours. When that didn't maintain a comfortable lifestyle, (1990’s), borrowing filled the gap. We witnessed how that turned out, the 2008 recession. The middle class needs to be able to pay for things, not borrow to get them. Jobs are created when people buy things, (after all, someone has to make the things, deliver and sell them), that is how economics works. Henry Ford figured this out over 100 years ago! I am looking to my leaders to take some action. Be brave and do the right things for the right reasons. If the status quo is not changed, we are all going to be left behind. The people at the top, (the very rich), will continue to get further out of reach and more powerful. I don't think my fellow middle-class citizens are capable of continuing down the current path. The mass shootings for example, started in schools, (easy targets), then to theaters and malls, (bigger easy targets). These shootings haven’t changed what caused them. The next group will probably be politicians. Lack of gun laws is not the problem, more gun laws is not the answer. Lack of financial security is the problem, and all that goes with it. Please stop doing what we are doing, so we stop getting what we are getting. Let’s put a stop to the current state of affairs. Everything I have written here, is a glimpse of what I have observed. Unfortunately, I don’t have many solutions to offer, sorry. Political discussions with my contemporaries don’t happen. Everyone’s feelings get hurt, they stomp off, end of discussion. They are emulating what our leaders are doing. The dialogue needs to be started, so options are thought of and the best options given a chance to work. Please, let’s begin talking.

It is important because animals are amazing. And at the end of the day they are beings, too. They have feelings and emotions, so for people to abuse animals you can tell they don't know the true value of animals' lives.

  • Reinstatement of FCC Fairness Doctrine
This doctrine, introduced originally in 1949, required holders of broadcast licenses to give airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest and to give airtime to contrasting view points. According to the FCC, this kept broadcasters honest, equitable, and balanced.

  • Tell Tacoma/Fife Regional UPS to pay offered/advertised wage to seasonal workers
Seasonal workers are spread out throughout Pierce County, so it is hard to organize. It is the hope that this petition will help seasonal workers share their stories and also spread the word about our local HR department's deceptive (or in the least- very disorganized) hiring practices of seasonal workers to each other and our community. This time of year, companies like UPS, Fed Ex, and Amazon ramp up hiring due to the increased volume of deliveries. UPS is a large company here in South Sound, and our community should know how they are currently treating many seasonal employees. Seasonal employees are essential to getting work done during the holiday season. They deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Many were deceived or had their pay rate misrepresented when they were hired. As far as the petition writer knows, there has been no written communication from UPS HR to confirm that employees who are being underpaid will receive back pay and have their wage changed to the rate at which they were hired. Seasonal employees deserve to be compensated for the hourly wage they were offered (and that was publicly advertised), and there should be consistent ($18/hour) wage for all Driver Helpers. Middle management and union reps have been working hard (at least from the petitioner writer's experience) to support seasonal workers and advocate for the pay they were offered when hired. The high turn over of seasonal workers impacts management and all the full-time drivers at our regional UPS.

  • Remove Zuckerberg's name from San Francisco General Hospital
I want to remove the Zuckerberg name from San Francisco General Hospital. I don't believe Zuckerberg should be part of our city until he refutes racism, fascism, antisemitism, and LGBTQ discrimination by renouncing the Trump-Pence regime and not making backroom deals with white-supremacist Republican Politicians.

  • Starbucks! Re-open the Milwaukee Midtown location!
We demand the Milwaukee Midtown Starbucks location be reopened. Starbucks management says that they closed it permanently due to robberies; however, they could have invested in security to keep it open. This was one of the best-performing locations in town and in a mixed urban area that is becoming increasingly populated with check-cashing stores and fast-food restaurants and subsequently bereft of quality places for the community to gather and patronize. MANY people in the surrounding neighborhoods are very upset and disappointed that this location has been closed. It truly is a loss to the community. Starbucks, call and do the right thing. Reopen Midtown and bring in security!

  • Help Taylor Swift Sing Her Songs at the AMAS
Taylor Swift has been fighting for her music rights for almost a year now. Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun refuse to permit her to sing her previous works at the AMAs for no valid reason. Both of these men have antagonized her and continue to use their position of power to try and scare her from speaking out. Neither of these men has contributed to her success and it’s disgusting to see them take credit for what she has made for herself and her career. So many young upcoming artists have been taken advantaged of people in positions of power. Taylor Swift is one of the biggest artists in the world right now imagine being so high up in an industry but can’t sing your own music it’s unsettling and we need change now.

  • Tell Congress: Facial recognition in hiring is a form of discrimination!
Imagine having a job interview, not with a human being, but an AI algorithm, that will decide your "employability" based on hundreds of data points about your micro-facial expressions and tiny inflections of your voice. Are you sweating yet? A tech company, HireVue, is already making this a terrifying reality for job seekers. But their AI algorithm process is not just super-secret, it's rife with the potential for employment discrimination. People with accents, speech impediments, non-native English speakers, and even just people who speak in a different rhythm or cadence could be rejected for job opportunities even when they meet other job qualifications. Instead of waiting for Congress to "catch up" with tech companies, we need to act now and demand they nip unfair algorithms like this in the bud.

  • PBS: Televise the Trump Impeachment Hearings
When impeachment proceedings against President Nixon began, the public wasn’t convinced. By the time he left office, Americans of all parties were overwhelmingly in support of his removal. What changed? A major factor was PBS’s decision to broadcast the Watergate hearings in full — 247 hours in total. Millions of public TV viewers tuned in as the story of the Watergate break-in, the cover-up, payoffs, and dirty tricks unfolded before their eyes. They heard testimony from presidential advisors, the attorney general, former spies, and bagmen. Public accountability can make all the difference. That’s why, as Congress begins public hearings into Trump’s impeachment this Wednesday, PBS must broadcast them in full once again. The American people deserve to hear and see the full case against Donald Trump firsthand because they have a right to participate in the impeachment process and make an informed decision for themselves. PBS’s job is more important than ever today — because we’re in a political climate marked by disinformation and distractions that would be unheard of in the 1970s. The ONLY way to cut through all that is with the absolute, unvarnished truth. We need to show the American people exactly what happened, instead of filtering it through cable news spin or the President’s tweets. A full, public reckoning of the President’s conduct is an absolutely vital part of the impeachment process. The American people deserve to hear and judge the full case for themselves. Plus, Mitch McConnell’s Senate lockdown is powerless to interfere with the House’s hearings. If you agree, then I hope you’ll stand with me by adding your name and calling on PBS to live up to its solemn duty to the public.
