The Columbia Falls Aluminum Company originally provided more than 350 good-paying, union jobs. But it was shut down because of the dramatic rise in electricity costs following utility deregulation passed by the Montana state legislature. Now, the Bonneville Power Administration is proposing to enter into a power sales agreement that would provide affordable power service to the company beginning April 1, 2012. This agreement will allow the company to reopen its doors, creating renewed opportunities for jobs in the Flathead Valley, a region with an unemployment rate of 11.4 percent.

Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick ran for office on a jobs platform. But since getting elected, he has done nothing to address our jobs crisis. Instead, he voted to slash Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. And then, he wasted months on the manufactured debt ceiling crisis—forcing cuts that will kill jobs. Rep. Yesterday I watched my assets drain away as the Dow tumbled another 600+ points. Sure there are are the factors in the Global economy but the one Gold Standard has always been the resilience and stability of the United States of America. The bickering and partisanship around the debt ceiling has led to a downgrade of the US credit worthiness and a stock market freefall. This nonsense has driven down the value of everyone's assets and personal retirements savings. Its time to tell Washington to get their act together and work for the good of the country, and stop just appealing to their "base" (er) instincts or collectively, we will kick them out of office!

This weekend, the New York Times reported that wages as a percentage of national income are the lowest they’ve been since 1965, and falling. What that means is that virtually all of us who are lucky enough to have jobs are being underpaid, while corporations rake in obscene profits. And as we’ve all seen, big corporations are failing to re-invest their profits in creating good jobs we desperately need—they’re sitting on cash. Take Verizon. In the past four years alone, the company made more than $19 billion in profits—and compensated its top five executives more than a quarter of a billion dollars. Yet this highly profitable company is using Wisconsin-style tactics to try to extract $1 billion in concessions from 45,000 of its workers. That's $20,000 for every family. Verizon’s unionized workers have been more than willing to come to the bargaining table and negotiate. But Verizon has been coming up with one excuse after another—and refuses to bargain seriously. So at midnight Sunday, 45,000 Verizon workers went on strike. Verizon needs to know that we stand with these workers—and we won't stand for their Wisconsin-style tactics. If we allow highly profitable corporations like Verizon keep leading a race to the bottom in American wages, our country’s middle class may not survive. By going on strike, these corageous workers aren’t just standing up for themselves, but for all of us.

The Corporations and the wealthy are not paying their fair share of taxes that they have historically paid. This is why we are in the mess that we are in. They are controlling congress with their money. If everyone focuses on this one issue we can get this done.

These two groups are trying to bring down President Barack Obama by not compromising and creating jobs. The Republican Congress is blocking all of President Obama's initiatives by saying, "No" to everything. Their focus is on making him a "One Term President."

The CWA (Communication Workers of America) were forced out of collective bargaining with Verizon because the company has decided to not honor existing collective bargaining commitments. At this time, Verizon wants workers to give back money, security, benefits and even home-life by dictating a 100 mile radius where a worker must report. Meanwhile the company is showing record profits and is essentially telling its workers "Take it or Leave it". As of Monday 8-9-2011, the company believes it can handle the work load for the 35,000 Verizon, FIOS, and Verizon Wireless employees who are CWA or IBEW members. As citizens who are afforded certain rights as subscriber to these services, we have the right to qualified service technicians and we must call, write and email and demand only qualified technicians during out-of-service conditions.

WE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE advocate for the re-establishment of the U.S.Civilian Conservation Corps(CCC) to enable our unemployed and underemployed citizens to be engaged in a practical and peaceful community and national service. Eighty years ago, under the Roosevelt Administration, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) program demonstrated that no conflict existed between preserving the environment and job creation. The purpose of this program is for the general benefit our community and nation. The CCC would aid to transform our country to become a resilient, sustainable and ecologically balanced culture in order for this society to survive, thrive and prosper as much as we did in the 20th Century. Those who enroll in the CCC would receive job training in meaningful job skills and would be first responders in disaster relief. Last weekend, Governor Rick Perry helped organize a massive, Christian-focused prayer rally called "The Response"—with taxpayers helping to pay the bill. Gov. Perry and the Texas Legislature should pay back any funds spent on "The Response" to Texas citizens, and they should not use state money to blatantly fund their own personal religious and political agendas.

The WPA program championed by FDR in the '30s put millions back to work building America. Virtually every community still enjoys the benefits of money well spent putting Americans back to work making this nation great. US (the United States) needs jobs, at least 8 million of them to put ourselves back to work. We call upon the six major U.S. banks that were saved by the taxpayer-funded bailout to make the American economy whole by funding 1 million public service jobs and funding the Small Business Lending Fund, which is already in operation.
