• Spring ISD: Disposing of the "Layered Curriculum" format of teaching
this petition is how Spring ISD schools have created an ineffective learning technique called "Layered Curriculum" which result in the student teaching themselves on subjects and important topics that need to be taught by teachers. This teaching format is very time consuming and the students only have a short period of time to do it while the teachers sit at their desk and do absolutely nothing. The curriculum consist of 60 or more assignments, which are each worth a certain amount of points, for example maybe 5. the teacher has the authority to give you the points or not if the work is not done to their pleasing, which the student does not know because it was not taught to them. I have been surveying and asking students and their grades from this lesson and the most responses i have been hearing is that their grades have been dropping because of it and not only in the class that they are doing the layer curriculum in but also in other classes because of how time consuming it is leaving them no time to focus on other things. This needs to be stopped as soon as possible because it is and will surely destroy our students future. (from personal experience)

  • Youth Depots
The Youth Depot is the answer and solution to the social ills in society that plague and negatively affect our youth and disable too many from academically achieving their best, including, but not limited to, Gang Violence, Bullying, Obesity, HIV and AIDS, Unwanted Teen Pregnancy, High School Dropout, economic disadvantages, and other ills that hinder advancement. We must build Youth Depots as a reformation of the village that is needed to raise our children effectively, support parents, serve the community, build vocational skills, and subsequently promote social advancement. Governor Cuomo talked about providing all of these services in schools during his 2013 State of the State Address. Schools should be not be overwhelmed. These services need separate entities. Our youth need outlets where they can freely grow and learn as well as have a safe space for leisure outside of their homes and schools. Our teens need an outlet where they can grow and learn as well as have a safe and empowering space outside of their homes and schools. Since 3pm – 7pm on school days is nationally known to be the times when teens engage in negative activities, then we must provide a space that promotes engagement in positive activities as well as equip them with the tools and techniques necessary to be excellent students and productive dynamic citizens. Youth in rural and suburban areas need to learn how to counteract isolation, and youth in urban areas need to learn positive alternatives conflict.

  • Education and Teachers
My granddauther teaches 4th graders who are ill-equipped by prior education, lack of teaching supplies and assistance from the school itself. Every year they keep cutting back teachers/equipment and this should be stopped.

  • Fully Fund Maryland's Historically Black Universities
Since 1865, Maryland established four historically black universities. However, the state underfunded these universities and segregated them from advanced academic, research, and post-graduate degree programs that Maryland fully funded at white universities. Maryland’s black universities operate with substandard libraries, inadequate research and technology facilities, insufficient faculty pay, insufficient funding for scholarships, and inadequate post-graduate degree programs. Despite a lawsuit by students and graduates, Governor Martin O'Malley refuses to fully fund Maryland's historically black universities.

  • Terminate Lauderdale County High School Head Football Coach Bob Grisham for Sexist, Derogatory co...
Grisham: Like those lunches - you get 600-calorie lunches - you know who's behind that? Different voice: Michelle Obama Grisham: Fat butt Michelle Obama Grisham: And look … look at her. She looks like she weighs 185 or 190. She's overweight. Different voice: Big fat gorilla (laughter) Grisham: I'm serious. Y'all, our country is, is, is going in the wrong direction." When a classroom instructor and especially a high school football coach uses his authority and power to denigrate the physique of one gender, he teaches the students that they are allowed to do the same and it will be met with laughter and approval. Not only is this wrong, it is discriminatory and against the law. Clearly, his classroom already understands that racist remarks are acceptable. We must put an end to gender discrimination, sexism and racism in Alabama classrooms, NOW.

  • Mayor Kevin Johnson: Save Mark Hopkins Elementary School
Mark Hopkins Elementary, sister school to Rosa Parks Middle School and the bright spot of the Meadowview community should not be closed. Mark Hopkins is a major resource of information and stability to nearby parents, students, and businesses. Just last year, the Kings basketball team made major improvements to our playground and totally renovated our computer lab. Through community support last year, our school won a local contest for a very beautiful garden on campus. During the last election, Mark Hopkins was one of the very few polling places in the vicinity. Mark Hopkins is the site of vital after school programs and community support programs. Mark Hopkins needs support so that the community can continue to be strong and grow past the economic crisis. This community cannot afford to lose Mark Hopkins Elementary. Don't force elementary school boys and girls to walk extra, potentially dangerous miles to another school. Save Mark Hopkins Elementary School!
