WE need to review the current Trade Deals and cancel those that are unfair, use slave labor and child labor to manufacture the product, ruin our USA worker opportunity to a job, avoid protecting the environment by ignoring the policies within the country and do not protect the American public with adequate inspection leaving the foreign port and entering our US Port before they are distributed to US buyers.

It seems that our representatives do not want to hear what we have to say about the Keystone XL pipeline. OK, maybe the oil companies will. If the pipeline is included in legislation, I would like the bill to also include a provision that any oil company using the tar sand oil must disclose as much in labeling. I would be willing to pay extra to be sure that tar sand oil is not going into my tank. Let's show them other people feel this way, too.

Environmental impact assessments – supposed to predict the likely impacts of proposed projects on the environment under laws like the U.S. National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) are today routinely performed by for-profit consulting firms working for the proponents of the projects whose impacts they are supposed to predict. As a result, they are often if not always biased toward minimizing project impacts, though often only after extensive, expensive, sometimes unnecessary study. Critical public comments on such assessments are routinely dismissed without serious consideration. This leads to disasters like the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe. The system badly needs reform.

If you've been to Maine's North Woods, you know what's at stake. Generations of Mainers have learned to love the outdoors while exploring Maine's 10 million acres of open space—from the Rangeley Lakes to Moosehead Lake to Mount Katahdin. But Governor Paul LePage is threatening to destroy the North Woods as we know it by letting counties drop out of the Land Use Regulation Commission, which protects the North Woods from reckless development. A committee has already started considering the bill.

The Department of Agriculture should be directed towards an organic future, with emphasis on concern for the health of the earth and its citizens.
