On July 3, the Senate Intelligence Committee, led by North Carolina Senator Richard Burr, released a report agreeing that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election in Donald Trump's favor. Depending on how successful that interference is, we may not have a legitimate sitting president. If that is the case, Trump should not be able to name a lifetime appointee to the highest court in the United States. A Supreme Court justice has great power to change people's lives, and no justice should be confirmed when the presidential election is in question. I'm calling on Senator Burr to recuse himself from the confirmation vote on Brett Kavanaugh until we know the extent of Russia's interference.

There was a petition presented to the Siskiyou County Planning Commission urging them to deny a permit for the Jefferson Center for the Arts. This could be quite an obstacle, even though there were only 57 signatures. Let us show that many more want the JCA to exist.

WHY ELSE WOULD HE AVOID ANY WITNESSES TO THE MEETING? THE TIME IS NOW. WE WANT BIPARTISAN OVERSIGHT OF ANY AND ALL INVESTIGATIONS OF RUSSIAN ATTEMPTS TO ALTER OUR ELECTION SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE. WE NEED A MASSIVE CYBER SECURITY EFFORT TO PROTECT OUR ELECTIONS. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE IN JANUARY 2017. CLEARLY, TRUMP DOESN'T WANT IT TO HAPPEN. WE MUST ACT NOW OR LOSE OUR PRECIOUS RIGHT TO HAVE OUR VOTE COUNT.

President Trump has repeatedly flouted the will of the majority, causing lasting harm to individuals from migrant children to our citizens with pre-existing healthcare conditions. The former touches me as a mother, the latter as well - willful sabotage of the ACA threatens my daughter’s well-being and even her life. Muslim Americans, LGBTQ community members, and many other people I count as friends are similarly harmed and perpetually on guard against new attacks on basic human and American rights by a president who rejects democratic debate and expresses authoritarian entitlement. Our faith in a fair, just land of opportunity for all is shaken, largely by the overreach of this President and the failure of Congress to provide reasonable checks on the President’s powers. These are extraordinary circumstances, including the active ongoing criminal indictments by Robert Mueller. The effect is a mass loss of confidence in our very democratic system. Our democracy will survive a mere delay in this president’s power to appoint a SCOTUS member until at least after 2018’s mid-term elections, when we’ve had a chance to express our preferences for representation. But our strained democracy will suffer irreparable harm if this president under these circumstances is green-lighted in his nomination for SCOTUS, especially where the nominee advocates even greater, nearly impenetrable presidential powers.

To the House of Representatives, Members of the Senate, my fellow Americans, and, most pointedly, President Donald J. Trump, My name is Charles Porter. I am a middle aged, working class American man. And I am forming this petition in the hopes that there is still decency remaining in what we call America. Since President Trump has been in office, I have watched the decline of the country I love. Allow me a moment to give you a brief overview of my family ties to our nation. My ancestors were among the first pilgrims to this land. My family, through my paternal grandmother, share family lineage with President GeorgeWashington. I am a direct descendent of the first Rear Admiral of the U.S. Navy. My family has been as American as one can possibly be. Sadly, I no longer recognize the America my family helped establish, uphold, and defend. And I fear we are on the verge of a constitutional crisis as never seen before. Our President's campaign and administration has been under investigation for over a year and a half, the results of which should be widely known by now. And now we have the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh as SCOTUS. This same Brett Kavanaugh, has written he believes the President should be above the law. As an American, I find this idea offensive, and downright wrong. The President is supposed to serve the country. Not himself. The office of President is supposed to be held by citizens! And no citizen, however powerful, is above the law. If we allow Mr. Trump to get his nominee into the Supreme Court, it could very probably destroy our country.
