• ASK WHY NOT
I am a NYC based human rights attorney who has decided to try to get on the November ballot as an independent in New York State's 12th congressional district. While gathering signatures in Astoria today someone told me about MoveOn. I believe the two party system is gridlocked and more individuals, i.e., independents, need to take risks and run for office since our government is only as good as we are. ASK WHY NOT is concerned with bringing independents into the political system, reforming our federal election process and zealously addressing our budget deficits and national debt. I am looking for like-minded volunteers, critical thinkers and doers.

  • NO to NY Legislators' proposed pay raise
NYS Legislators think that they can vote in a pay raise for themselves in Dec. 1012 for 2013 and no one will care. Their pay is already high at $79,000 for a part time job. They need to ask their constituents if they deserve a pay raise, not just give themselves one.

  • Separate Commercial Banks from Investment Banking-Again
Our present financial crisis is rooted in the revocation of Glass-Steingold Act of 1933 which mandated the separation of commercial and investment banks and created an environment for investment banks to become involved in high-risk, unprotected behavior without the controls that commercial banks operate under. Lobbyist slowly chipped away this Law, over the last 70 years, removing its last provision under Clinton; the separation of Commercial (Local savings and loans) from Investment banking (Wall Street, basically-gambling). The results, we and other countries' governments (the people) are held hostage, bank's profits are privatized, big bonuses paid but, their losses are socialized. This is like your neighbor going, Las Vegas to gamble. But instead of using their money, they place bets using your family's checking and savings, your home, any and all retirement income AND; they loose it all, saying "I'm just playing by the Rules, I can do that, but you can't. It's just too complicated for you to understand." Change the Rules: Separate Commercial Banks from Investment Banking-Again

  • Limit politician terms
No more career politicians. They become corrupt. I think a two or four year term for all congressmen, and senators and that's it...you're out of there!

  • Choice is what freedom is about
People need to have choice when it comes to political candidates. The National Media continues to roadblock this by only allowing the Republican and Democratic candidates in the televised Presidential National Debates. They do this by conducting their own poll and then use it to reject any other candidate. In this case Gary Johnson the Libertarian Candidate who is also on the Ballot. He is the candidate that will 1. Bring all of our troops home 2. End the War on Drugs 3. Abolish the IRS and replace with the Fair Tax 4. Label GMO's 5. Conduct an objective investigation of 911

  • Congress: Redirect the bloated militay budget
the military now gets over 50% of the tax revenues of the United States. We need to redirect a portion of this, first, to help the people in need in this country. It is unconscionable that in the wealthiest nation on earth, we cannot afford to fix our infrastructure, or help the poorest among us out of poverty; secondly, we need to use the military to help people of other countries rebuild their nations, not destroy them by dropping bombs and selling weapons.

  • Put Gary Johnson in the polls
CNN, MSNBC, Fox, ABC and CBS continue to ignore Gary Johnson because they only want a two-party race. One of the ways they ignore Gary is by excluding him from their polls. After all - if he gets 15% in the polls, they will have to let him debate Obama and Romney. What a disaster that would be for the Republicans and Democats and their lapdog media. Our only hope is NPR. Unfortunately NPR is bought and paid for by ... the Republic-rats and the Demo-cants. This petition is to NPR - start living up to your obligation to report the news, not the spin. Start telling us what Gary Johnson says every day. Then Americans will have an actual choice in November.

There is a need to establish minimum discloser requirements so all voters recieve the same basic information on a perspective candidate for office. Currently, this is up to each candidate resulting in uneaqual, disjointed, misleading information.
