Rep Mike Rogers: end NRA's chokehold on CongressWe have to stop our elected officials from taking money from the NRA! We need them to work for us, "The People", not for the powerful gun lobbyists. #REJECTTHENRA The National Rifle Association has a financial chokehold on much of Congress. It’s one of the main reasons why, in the wake of mass shootings such as the ones in Parkland, FL, Sutherland Springs, TX, Las Vegas, Orlando, San Bernardino, and Sandy Hook, we remain unable to pass commonsense gun laws. In the wake of the Las Vegas tragedy, two representatives–Representatives Tim Ryan (Ohio) and Tim Walz (Minnesota)–have donated previous NRA contributions to gun violence protection groups. Now, MoveOn members across the country are petitioning their fellow lawmakers to join them.25 of 100 SignaturesCreated by eric heathcock

Pledge to vote against politicians who will not support gun control.I am no longer willing to sit and wait for the next mass killing to come to my community. The large majority of Americans support common-sense gun control, but we are being held hostage by a tiny minority of highly vocal members of the NRA, a group representing no more than 7 percent of the adult population - many of whom actually also support gun control. We can only counter the power of the NRA through our voices and our votes. I propose a state-by-state drive to gather signatures of registered voters who pledge to vote against any politician of any party who will not vocally support the kind of measures that will begin to eliminate the easy availability of guns which fuels the current crisis of killing in our country. I propose to keep the focus local - it is harder for elected officials to dismiss the numbers if they are presented with a pledge from voters only from their own state who make it plain whom they will and will not support. The state-by-state results will then also speak for themselves from a national perspective more clearly and with greater impact. If this petition shows strong support among MoveOn members, I would like to work with others to move the larger project forward on a state-by-state basis.785 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Ted Curtin

No more military-style assault weapons and high-cap magazines!I write this through waves of tears. Florida is my home, Floridians are my people. This morning, my heart is again burning with pain and anger over a mass shooting that has devastated families and an entire community in my state. This time, it was at a high school. A HIGH SCHOOL. As a mother, the assault on the sanctity of school safety shakes me to my core. An armed 19-year-old former student went to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School yesterday afternoon and shot to death 17 people, wounding 14 more, five of them critically.[1] His weapon? An AR-15. Every fiber of my being is screaming that no civilian should have access to military-style assault rifles and high-capacity ammunition! The AR-15, a military-style assault rifle, was used in the Newtown, Orlando, and Las Vegas shootings, to name just a few. It is the weapon of choice for mass murderers and has no business being for sale in America. Right now, there is legislation ready to be passed in Congress that would get military-style weapons and high-capacity ammunition off our streets. No matter what the Parkland shooter’s affiliations, hatreds, mental health, or background, his access to a weapon that was designed to kill large numbers of people quickly was why 31 people were slaughtered or maimed yesterday. Change must occur -- it MUST occur -- before another community suffers the grief of gun violence. Congress has the power to take action to reduce gun violence and they still haven’t. Congress's cowardly inaction is intolerable. Enough is enough.142 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Sili R.

Rep. Elise Stafanik, represent your constituency, not NRA.The National Rifle Association contributes large amounts of money to many members of Congress, including House Representative, Elise Stefanik. Rep. Stefanik has received $7,179 in support from the NRA. The NRA's financial hold on our Congress is undeniable. In the wake of national tragedies, our representatives hollowly extend thoughts and prayers to victims while accepting money from the NRA to ensure that nothing more is done to prevent future tragedies. Rep. Stefaniks position on gun control is tainted by the funds she has accepted from the NRA. This bribery of our representatives undermines democracy and must come to an end.241 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Dylan Herne

Ask John Moolenaar to donate his NRA contributions to charityJohn Moolenaar has accepted $10,554 in contribution from the NRA and its associates. He needs to give that money to the victims of gun violence or another charity. The NRA cannot continue to hamstring Congress by "paying them off." We need common sense firearms regulations that will help limit gun ownership to responsible citizens and prevent their acquisition by non-citizens, felons, and people convicted of violent crimes. We also need an assault weapons ban NOW so that the AR-15 (used in every mass shooting in recent years) isn't widely available to anybody who wants to create mass harm. I have four kids in public schools. When I see video of kids cowering under desks, screaming and begging for their lives, I see my kids. Those are children, and there are parents who sent their kids off yesterday only to have them not come home. Children deserve to be able to study in peace, and not go to school in fear that somebody might start shooting. We have got to pass common-sense gun reform, and we have to do it NOW. Stop taking donations from the NRA and start listening to your constituents, many of whom are responsible gun owners who support these measures.172 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Elizabeth Johnson
