• Is it finally time to do something about gun violence?
The last shooting in Oregon was the tipping point for me. I had to do something. We all have to do something.

  • Gun Control. Now!
Sandy Hook. Columbine. Red Lake, Minnesota. Essex, Vermont. Lancaster. Aurora. Virginia Tech. Umpqua. How many more innocent victims must die at the hands of an antiquated and oft-misinterpreted amendment? Enough. It's time to stop the violence. Gun control doesn't have to mean no guns. I'm not suggesting we take guns away. I'm suggesting we put tighter controls on acquiring and owning them. Gun show loopholes must be stopped. Ammunition should not be sold online. Mandatory wait periods should be enforced, during which time a thorough background check, psychological and medical evaluation, and character references should be completed. More accountability should be placed in the hands of retailers. When patrons refuse wait periods, authorities should be notified. Training and testing should be mandatory, as should a renewal process that includes many of the above-mentioned evaluation terms. Gun owners and non-gun owners need to come together and agree on regulations that protect the right to own a firearm for sane, responsible adults and keep them out of the hands of the mentally unstable. I would hope that we could all agree to submit ourselves to these terms when it's easier to go to a gun show and pick up a firearm than it is to go to the local pharmacy and buy cold medication. Acquiring and owning a gun should be at least as controlled as getting a learner's permit, license, and privilege to drive a car. Gun control alone is not the whole of the solution, but it's a start. And if it keeps guns out of the hands of even one mentally unstable person and saves one sweet life, it's worth it.

  • Wake Up!
This petition is about saving lives … especially the extremely heartbreaking death and traumatizing of children. I have many children and grandchildren and it is so very upsetting to know that school is no longer a safe place for them.

  • Support Common Sense Gun Laws
The threat of gun violence hangs over us every day, whether we are assembled for classes, a concert, or for public transportation, we can't help but have it cross our minds: what would we do if someone took out a gun? We can't walk down the street without knowing that our government is doing NOTHING to prevent violent people from having access to guns. Non gun owners right to reasonable safety is not being protected. That must change!

  • Better Gun Laws!
Because I oppose violence. I care about children in general and I have two children of my own. The current gun laws are designed to protect profit, not people.

  • It is time for action on gun control
I am affected each time I learn of 'just ' another death. How can anyone be unconcerned about the use of guns, how they are obtained, who uses them; often, it is not the mentally ill. Don't use them as scapegoats. Often it is an individual who is closed- minded who uses a patriotic reason for having a gun in his holster and in the house. No more!

  • We need reasonable, responsible gun control.
I am starting this petition because I'm tired of the constant stream of gun deaths in this country. I believe there are common sense approaches we can take to limit the amount of gun violence we're seeing. Enforcing gun laws that already exist and cracking down on illegal gun sales needs to become more of a priority. Mandatory wait periods should be enforced, during which time a thorough background check should be completed. Gun show loopholes have to be closed. Ammunition should not be sold online. Training and testing should also be mandatory. I believe that all of this can be enforced without infringing on the rights of responsible gun owners. We need to ask our leaders to take steps toward ending the problem of gun violence. We can't keep doing nothing and expecting change. Please join me and sign this petition.

  • Texas Teachers Against Campus Carry
S.B. 11 creates a culture of "gun permissiveness" on our campuses and prevents teachers from exercising their rights to ban weapons from the classroom.

  • Let's start the discussion
I go to concerts and malls and wonder if something might happen. I worry about my nieces and nephews going to movies and classes. I don't want more guns in more peoples' hands to stop shooters; that's more craziness. I want to teach people better coping skills and more empathy. And its not just those with psychological issues. Easy access to guns makes shooting someone too easy instead of talking it out or walking away.

  • Sensible gun control
The gun violence in this country is unacceptable. We the citizens of this country should not have to fear death from firearms.
