• Enough about Benghazi. What about gun safety?
The House Select Committee on Benghazi interrogated Hillary Clinton for 11 hours the other day. They learned nothing. Now they're planning a new Committee on Planned Parenthood. How much more of our money are they going to waste? Benghazi was a tragedy, but they didn't spend any time trying to prevent the next tragedy -- just trying to score more political points. You know what would be a good use of our taxpayer dollars instead? Hearings on Umpqua, Sandy Hook, Charleston and all the mass shootings. • Regulate gun ownership through general licensing program
The American gun control system is broken. The debate on gun control is divisive and little is being accomplished. Laws are being passed in some areas that restrict gun ownership, but don't prevent mass shootings. In other areas, good laws are being repealed like training requirements in order to carry concealed firearms. I propose that a new system be instated that requires citizens to obtain license, like a driver's license, before being able to purchase any firearm, or enter any establishment, event, or website where firearms or ammunition are commonly sold. Requirements to obtain such a license would be a basic psychological evaluation, federal background check, firearms safety, proper storage, maintenance, and skills training, subsidized out of the national defense budget. This would significantly encourage responsibility among firearms owners and, if coupled by a firearms buyback program conducted at the federal level, would also significantly reduce the number of firearms in circulation in the United States.

  • OPEN CARRY is not vacation friendly!
Florida lawmakers are considering giving gun owners with concealed carry permits the right to openly carry their firearms in public places, even allowing them to hold their guns in their hands as they walk around. With Disney World, Universal Studios, miles of pristine sand beaches, and world-class shopping and dining, Florida is the ultimate vacation destination for many families in the United States and around the world. But imagine going on vacation with kids and loved ones to a place where any stranger standing inches from you in line, or just passing by on the street, could be displaying or handling a deadly weapon. No, thank you. Tell the Florida tourism industry that families do not want to vacation in a state where people are openly carrying their weapons. MomsRising will deliver the message and your signature to the Florida Commission on Tourism, as well as to Disney World, Universal Studios, regional tourism boards, and other key members of the Florida tourism community. With more than 97 million people visiting the state, bringing more than $70 billion a year to the economy, the tourism sector is a powerful voice in Florida and can influence state policy on gun safety. The Florida Commission on Tourism and other leaders in the tourism industry will not like to hear that allowing the open carry of firearms may lead people to start looking elsewhere for that perfect family vacation. So sign on now!

  • Ban Internet Sales of Ammunition
The recent shootings at college campuses are a sign that the use of firearms for purposes for other than what they were intended is on the rise. This is one way to combat this scourge.

  • Bring the Brady Bill to the 21st century
Too often, unauthorized gun buyers are able to sneak past background checks; this is because background checks are conducted by fax machine, voice mail, and email. Too many straw purchasers are arming inner city gangs; they do this because we have no data analytics on bulk purchases (nor do we analyze who habitually reports bulk gun thefts). I have no faith in the Congress to pass meaningful gun legislation. Thus, it is up to the Executive branch to manifest change via legal executive action. The Executive branch has been tasked with conducting background checks, and have been blessed with a budget to execute these laws. It is well within the legal purview of the executive branch to implement these tools. It would take a big effort, but at least its possible. Legislative change, sadly, is not. We need to modernize the system anyway; it is no longer the 1990's. Let's stop talking about banning guns, and start banning fax machines instead.

  • Keep Michigan schools gun free zones! Vote NO on Senate Bills 442 and 561.
As the mother of two elementary school children, I believe that schools should remain gun free zones. Weapons do not belong in the classroom, concealed or otherwise. Guns on schools premises, other than on trained law enforcement officers, allow for a greater chance of an unintentional or accidental shootings. Vote NO on Senate Bills 442 and 561!

  • Gun Safety
There was a gunman on the loose near my granddaughters nursery school outside Sacramento last October. My daughter and her husband went through hell waiting for the gunman to be caught.

  • No more gun shows at Ventura County Fairgrounds
Gun violence continues to escalate in our country at an alarming rate. According to one count, the Oregon shooting was this year's 294th mass killing and the 45th on a school or college campus. We need sane policies on gun control.

  • Ban gun shows in the city of Sacramento
We need to ban gun shows in the city of Sacramento. I am a community college student and many shootings have been on college campuses, including Sacramento City College. One was just foiled at American River College on Thursday, October 8, 2015. Some students, faculty, and staff are afraid to come to campus, so this is one reason online classes are increasing in popularity.
