• Fix Healthcare Insurance: Repeal McCarran-Ferguson
The McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945, exempts health insurance companies from the Federal anti-trust legislation that applies to other businesses. What does this mean to the rest of us? It means that despite anything else that is said by either politicians or the health care insurance industry, about containing the ever-skyrocketing cost of health care, NOTHING WILL CHANGE. Nothing will change, because this exemption gives the insurance companies the power to fix prices, fix bids for contracts with employers, and restrict markets. Until McCarran-Ferguson is repealed, and there is true competition in the health care insurance industry (whether that is between private companies or includes a public entity) there will be no real reform in our health care cost system. Please join me in demanding the repeal of the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945. Thank you.

  • Support Independent Practice for North Carolina Nurse Midwives
North Carolina is one of only five states that still requires nurse midwives to practice under the supervision of a physician. These laws have no scientific or medical justification and limit access to health care and women's reproductive rights. I am a home birth certified nurse midwife in North Carolina, and because of this law, I am unable to provide care to women choosing home birth.

  • clean air
Our children are suffering higher insidents of breathing problems these days.I would like to ban leaf blowers and compressed air blowers as the dust created from these devices are bad for our health.I liken it to second hand smoke. Example 1: Compressed air was used to clean the decks of welding debris, chop saw dust (galvanized metal) and other hazardess materials. This debris was blown out into the atmosphere of San Jose Ca.This went on for 18 floors. Example 2:I watched 5 little children playing in there fenced in yard. The gardener at the house next door began to blow.In the light of the sun I could see the dust envelope the children. The people in the city, the little children should not have to breath in debris from these blowers. It is time to get back to the rake and the room!

  • Governor Quinn Reverse the Elimination of Illinois Cares RX
Over 200,000 senior citizens in Illinois are losing vital help to pay for their medications. This will force seniors to choose whether or not to take needed medcine(s). In many cases the cost of monthly premiums along with increased prescription costs will prove to be too much. The State of Illinois will probably see an increase in hospital and emergency room admissions due to people not taking needed and often life-saving prescriptions.

  • Fix our Health system by migrating to a Single Payer System.
Studies indicate that if we had a health care system that is efficient as Europe's care system we'd have no deficit. This would return the nation to sound footing without the need for spending cuts and tax increases. WE finally would have a health care system that puts people first. The money saved could then be used to finance full employment, investing in education, infrastructure ( which according to Joseph Stiglitz the deficit will come down enormously).
