As stipulated in the Constitution of the World Health Organization, “The enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of health is one of the fundamental rights of every human being without distinction of race, religion, political belief, economic or social condition.” Furthermore, the UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/70/1 stated, “As we embark on this great collective journey [toward the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development], we pledge that no one will be left behind.” While Taiwan was not invited to attend the World Health Assembly either in 2017 or 2018 as an Observer, it has sought to participate in technical meetings, mechanisms, and activities of the WHA and World Health Organization for many years. To this end, Taiwan has won the understanding and support of many nations, which have taken concrete action backing Taiwan. We will continue our effort to ensure the health and wellbeing of the 23 million people of Taiwan as well as of the whole human race. Taiwan’s participation can help WHO to establish a sound global health system. In recent years, Taiwan has successfully transformed its role on the international stage from aid recipient to assistance provider. It has established a comprehensive disease prevention system and organized numerous training workshops aimed at building capacity to prevent diseases in the Asia-Pacific and Southeast Asia, thereby facilitating collective efforts to strengthen global health security. Meanwhile, Taiwan needs the WHO to protect the health of its own people as well as those in the region and the entire world. Through its participation in the WHA and the WHO, it could share its experience with other countries, make timely reporting and acquire information on diseases, and play a constructive role in global health protection. This would create a win-win scenario for Taiwan, the WHO, and the world community. In the future, Taiwan will continue to seek participation in this year’s 72nd WHA as well as WHO technical meetings, mechanisms, and activities. This will help ensure the complete early realization of WHO’s vision of health as a human right. Republicans’ “Protect Act” gives power back to insurance companies to charge women and older adults more and sell people plans that do not include comprehensive coverage. Insurance companies would once again be able to refuse to cover essential health benefits, such as hospitalization, mental health, maternity care, and prescription drugs. This puts artificial barriers up for people with pre-existing conditions. For example, someone with cancer may be sold a plan but denied prescription drug coverage. These types of restrictions were the norm pre-ACA, and the “Protect Act” takes us back to the days when your insurance card might have been a really expensive piece of plastic in your wallet.

A3818 is LIKELY headed toward the full assembly for vote in 2019 and will remove a parent's right to religious exemption. If this bill becomes law, thousands of children will be denied an education, special services, extracurricular activities, camp, sports, and more, in the state of NJ. We must keep our first amendment freedoms intact. Our greatest bargaining power will come down to showing we have the numbers to effect their re-election via our right to vote.

The merger between Mayo Regional Hospital and Northern Lights (EMMC) will be put to the vote this month. With $9M in debt with no letup in sight due to healthcare laws and practices, we may be strapped with an enormous tax bill and no hospital in the not-too-distant future. We all know what it's like to lose a mill, and losing the hospital will have an even bigger impact on our community and local economy. Doctors and families will leave, jobs will be lost, property values will drop, and our surrounding businesses will suffer. Taxes will increase and our local economy will take a big hit. Voting yes means Northern Light will assume our debt, keep our hospital open and improve healthcare services to members of our community. For the sake of our collective health, please vote for the merger and include your name to our list.

The families we serve are at severe risk of losing their services. Historically it has been difficult for individuals that have Medicaid to obtain behavioral therapies. If these changes pass only families that can afford out of pocket services or have private pay insurance will be able to attain these needed services. This severely impacts families that will not be able to attain these much-needed services.

Mayor Grebien needs to stop favoring developers looking for tax credits and start favoring residents in need of receiving vital emergency health care. The closure of Memorial Hospital has put all Rhode Islanders at risk by increasing emergency room wait times and straining our emergency response systems.

Recent reporting has provided evidence that the Sackler family, owners of Perdue Pharma, knowingly and purposefully deceived doctors and the public regarding the potential risk for abuse and overdose-related death of Oxycontin. The Sackler's have donated massive amounts of their multi-billion dollar fortune to multiple institutions and in exchange have their name plastered on some of the world's most renowned institutions, including Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Smithsonian, the Tate Gallery and the Louvre, Harvard, Oxford, Columbia, Tufts, NYU, University of Edinburgh, and Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. In response to learning 59 individuals died due to overdose in a single state, then Perdue Pharma president Richard Sackler sadistically replied “This is not too bad. It could have been far worse.” The family's behaviors are unforgivable, and we must not be complicit in their corruption by continuing to advertise their brand.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo manages to find money for corporate welfare and yet he wants to cut over 74 million dollars from popular and much needed medicaid programs like the CDPA. This is not just misguided, it's also a dangerous attack on multiple oppressed communities & jobs. However, I know that we, the people can stop this.

Medical mistakes are the third leading cause of death in the US. Instead of becoming well, hospital stays are lengthened because there are not enough nurses at the bedside to do the critical work nurses do. Nurses are leaving the hospital bedside because of dissatisfaction and burnout. The public has the backs of Nurses with an 84% rating as the most trusted profession. Listen to a nurse.

We are drowning in medical debt. It effects our credit, and we have to decide to pay medical bills or other bills and it's not fair. We have insurance, it just doesn't cover much of anything. We pay most out of pocket. Help struggling families!!

We've made numerous trips down to Washington, DC over the years to fight for 9/11 victims and their families. Even though the experience is exhausting and infuriating—emotionally and physically—we keep fighting for the 9/11 responders and survivors in the Health Program who are in all 50 States and in 434 out of 435 Congressional Districts. The number of people coming forward with illnesses and cancers related to the exposures to toxins at Ground Zero grows every single day. Nearly every other day another 9/11 responder or survivor reportedly dies from a 9/11 associated cancer. As the consequences of these attacks grow so too do the costs which are taking a significant toll on the current funding for the victims of this tragic day. Chronic diseases like asthma, obstructive pulmonary disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and cancer continue to plague those who were exposed to the many toxins and carcinogens on 9/11 and in the weeks and months after. Currently more than 45,000 people who are in the World Trade Center Health program are suffering from at least one certified 9/11 condition caused by the toxins at Ground Zero, the Pentagon and Shanksville crash site—a large percentage have multiple conditions. It is Congress’s responsibility to provide the Victims Compensation Fund with all the funding needed to make sure that 9/11 responders and survivors get the help they need and deserve. The new bipartisan bill "Never Forget the Heroes: Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund," may be one of the few bipartisan bills that can pass Congress this session—and we don't have time to sit around playing political games. This is not a partisan political issue. We will talk to anyone—anywhere—anytime—to make it clear that our loyalty is to those who sacrificed so much for their communities. We ask so much of our Nation’s first responders and volunteers—from firefighters to disaster response volunteers. Let us not repay their selflessness with apathy. Sign the petition. Demand your members of Congress vote to support the bill. We need your support, energy, and love!
