My family will be personally impacted by this change in qualifying for DMH Regional Center case management and services. Our case manager has been with us for 20 years and knows my son's needs extremely well. Like many Missouri families, we are in danger of losing our case manager and the services that my son currently has because we will not qualify for Medicaid (which is a new requirement this year). I advocate for many families in Missouri and they are very concerned about losing this valuable resource. Some families only have their Regional case manager to advocate for their child. Now, they will be with no one. Case managers will only be allowed to work with Medicaid families and anyone else will be stripped of their case management and redirected to a "referral" phone contact that won't know their child and can only provide contact information for outside resources. The personal interaction between case managers and families will be gone. And Regional Center funding for these services will be gone as well.

Independent medical practices are an essential part of the healthcare system. This month, elected officials in Albany are hammering out details of the State's budget. Changes to Medicaid funding that could be devastating to the survival of independent practices are being considered. Physicians who participate in the Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) program, the advanced primary care program through which Medicaid participants receive highly coordinated care, could see a proposed 73.33% reduction in payments for May and June, followed by a permanent reduction of 20% to 33.33% starting in July. The economics are straightforward: Independent medical practices simply cannot survive when they are being asked to do more while being paid less. Money we are paying for health care is going to insurance companies that do not provide health care. Single Payer saves us lots of money by using our government (Not making a profit) to insure our access to health care.

A rare neurological disease called Hereditary Spastic Parapalegia (HSP) forced me to retire from teaching early, so I needed to purchase private health insurance. Without ACA, the insurance companies wouldn't have sold me a policy at all, but even so, it is almost prohibitably expense, especially in Idaho (and New Mexico--the only two states that have not already expanded medicaid). The time for Idaho to finally expand medicaid is now.

I am personally allergic to corn and can attest to the fact that cornstarch and high fructose corn syrup cause me to experience a severe allergic reaction; therefore, their statement is false, misleading, and endangers the lives of the corn allergy population. Many other published articles confirm that removing a food protein does not guarantee that an allergen is rendered hypoallergenic.

I am an insurance broker in Virginia, Maryland and DC dismayed by the lack of options available to individuals and families who don't receive health insurance through their employment. Many of the large insurance companies have withdrawn from the marketplace while continuing to sell the more lucrative employer sponsored group plans. I had no insurance when I was diagnosed with cancer six years ago; luckily I was hooked up with Nashville General Hospital and their exceptional and caring staff. At every level, they put the patient first. What other hospital in Nashville is going to treat indigent patients with such understanding? I bet none. Does the hospital lose money? Not as much as TN has by refusing to accept Expanded Medicaid.
