This petition outlines the 3 most important changes needed to the way parole is run . Either we need a change in attitude, perhaps put in place with a policy change directive by the parole chairman, or we need the enacting of new parole rules. these are three taken from the many proposals included in the "Petition for New Parole Rules Using Statute 227". The system is stuck and all are suffering.

Nancy's case is heart breaking. We did a compassionate release application for her and she was denied and her time to the next parole hearing was extended to two years. I am worried that her health will give out with the stress and her inability to breathe well. There is no good reason behind this and the parole board gives no reason except to constantly reiterate her drug crime. Enough-this is not the same woman who went to prison- she has learned what she needs and now we need to release her.

In the case of the sons of convicted spies Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, that means requesting a presidential pardon. Brothers Michael and Robert Meeropol penned an op-ed in the New York Times Monday asking President Barack Obama to acknowledge that their mother, Ethel Rosenberg, was wrongly convicted and executed for conspiracy to commit espionage in 1953. Ethel Rosenberg and her husband, Julius Rosenberg, were at the center of one of the most controversial spy cases of the 20th century and were victims, many say, of the zealous overreach of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-communist crusade. While the brothers did not dispute their father’s culpability in their op-ed (“Scholars mostly agree,” they wrote, “that Julius was a spy”), they made a case that their mother, though likely aware of Julius’ activities, was not an active conspirator. The Rosenbergs were arrested in the summer of 1950 on charges of passing along atomic-bomb secrets to the Soviet Union. The case against Ethel Rosenberg was weak from the start: Historians believe she was largely a prosecutorial pawn used to put pressure on her husband. Damning testimony during the 1951 trial, however, came from David Greenglass, her brother. Greenglass was an army machinist and committed communist, who claimed his sister had been present at meetings in which he shared nuclear intelligence with Julius Rosenberg and that she typed up the notes. Later in life, when tracked down by a journalist, he admitted to lying on the witness stand to protect his wife, Ruth Greenglass, whom many suspect was actually the typist. David Greenglass, who served 10 years in prison for his role in the conspiracy, died last October at age 92. In their Times op-ed, the Meeropol brothers cited the release of Greenglass’ grand jury testimony last month, six decades after it was given, in which he did not mention his sister’s involvement. They also pointed to KGB records of communication with the Rosenbergs and noted that while Julius had a code name, “Liberal,” Ethel did not. They argued this means she was not considered a spy by the Russians and are now asking the U.S. government to reach the same conclusion. “Our mother was not a spy,” they wrote in the Times. “The government held her life hostage to coerce our father to talk, and when that failed, it extracted false statements to secure her wrongful execution.” The Rosenbergs’ sons were 10 and 6 years old respectively when orphaned. They were later adopted by Abel and Anne Meeropol and have made it a lifelong mission to shed light on their parents’ case. Michael Meeropol, now a professor of economics, edited “The Rosenberg Letters,” a compilation of the prison correspondence between his parents. Robert Meeropol founded the Rosenberg Fund for Children, which supports children of “targeted activists” and wrote “An Execution in the Family,” a memoir of his experience. Trophy hunting is a barabric activity that is depleting many species and must be stopped. Walter Palmer cannot be allowed to get away with his continued poaching activities.

Now is the time to show the world that laws that protect endangered species should be upheld and followed in Zimbabwe and here in the United States. We are all awaiting...the people coming from all walks of life, all the animal welfare and rights advocates that you execute your power to extradite him here from our country and bring him to justice. We know that there is a process but it is time for someone who broke your law be held accountable. We have to bring this outlaw to justice!

Romondo is another example of a prisoner given an incredibly long sentence for a non violent crime. We know politicians and others soared to power on these outrageous sentences but it is time to be wise. I started writing prisoners like Romondo as a way to help heal. It has become a great learning experience and my outrage at the injustice done these prisoners and their families and communities, coupled with the corruption of the system compels me to do as much as I can.

Terrance Shaw is one of the hardest workers I know. He has an opportunity with the Veteran's Hospital to get treatment for the first time for his PTSD and then to take their training to become a mentor for other Viet Nam veterans who are also suffering from this malady. He was one of our compassionate release candidates but was denied. This is another example of the DOC's refusal to take into account the fact that people change.

I have been working with prisoners and their families for 15 years and know many of the Old Law Prisoners and their families personally. The heartbreak and suffering caused by our present policies is hard to communicate in words. I have come to greatly admire many of these man and women forever entombed for they have become mature and wise despite incredible abuse and neglect and many want nothing more then to give back to their communities. It is also hard to understand WHY we do not adopt a wise policy since our state is in serious debt and the DOC is strangling in health care bills for 60, 70 and 80 years olds. We hope that this petition drive will help families and concerned citizens coalesce into a real movement.

Mr. Muniz should not have to spend the rest of his life, in prison for the non-violent drug offenses he was convicted of.

The Yankton Sioux Desmond Rouse is one of four Native American Men whom have had their lives shattered for the past 22 years and their hopes, spirits and souls eviscerated. They have lost everything they love in life and have wrongfully spent the past 20 years of their lives imprisoned, for egregious offenses they are innocent of. I am no attorney or crime analyst, but the reason that so many are falsely convicted of sex offenses seems painfully clear. First, this is the only category of offenses on which charges can be brought without a shred of physical or often even circumstantial evidence. Secondly, this is the only category of offenses where the accused is consistently assumed to be guilty from the outset. "Innocent until proven guilty" has no meaning and no application at all when one is accused of a sexual crime, especially against a child. It is "guilty until proven innocent," and with no evidence to refute or disprove, and with prosecutors salivating with the assurance of another victory, being proven innocent is as unlikely as flying around the world blindfolded and landing safely. New evidence consisting of significant recantations and expert witnesses has recently evolved that will prove their innocence and exonerate them. The medical evidence and opinions were based on 1994 technology and untested opinions. With the advent of modern medical research, we are now in a much better position to prove that the government's "expert" witnesses opinions were inherently wrong. Mongolian spots are birth marks and aren't bruises. "Bruises" start the entire case off with fallacious reasoning based upon negative racial bias. "The consensus is now that the abnormal findings described are nothing more than anatomical structures and normal variations. The use of Toludine blue dye on mucosal surfaces such as the vaginal vestibule and vagina was totally inappropriate and descriptions of dye uptake should not have been given any weight in determining whether there were signs of trauma to the genital and anal area tissues." concludes Professor Joyce Adams Racial or ethnic discrimination rampant throughout the case. There was no real evidence in this case. What was purported to be evidence by the prosecution was not reliable evidence. Manipulated testimony, purchased testimony phony and manufactured evidence, evidence resulting from people having a conflict of interest (a social worker who was also a foster parent of the alleged victims), children who said NOTHING HAPPENED were not believed by the court and were threatened with not to be able to see their mothers again if they did not testify the way the prosecutors instructed them to testify. Everything I say here is in certified transcripts. The first appellate panel (2-1) vacated the decision and remanded the case for a new trial. BUT the new trial never happened. The dissenter then wrote a new decision denying the new trial. Absolutely outrageous miscarriage of justice! A blight on our judicial system.
