We must demand that local officials release all video, information and photographs relating to Sandra's unjust arrest, imprisonment and death. The local police department and prosecutor's office have a long history of racism and corruption. Last year, DA Mathis threatened a local Reverend who spoke out about racist prosecutions, saying he would release his “hounds” on the Reverend. Waller County Sheriff Glenn Smith was fired from the police department in Hempstead, Texas for documented cases of racism. According to her loved ones, Sandra Bland was a loving, compassionate woman, with a bright future ahead. Today would have been the first day at her new job working student outreach at her alma mater, Prairie View A&M University. Loved ones described her as bright, spirited, and having a thirst for life. She was also a vocal advocate against police brutality and often spoke about ending racism and police violence. Our hearts and minds are with her friends and family as they move through this unimaginably hard time.

My petition is for my 5 year old son and 7 year old daughter. They were taken upon their father's first visitation after 4 years. I called the police when he began to ignore my calls, to check on them. The authorities declared it a civil matter. No Amber Alert for me and my children??!!! I have obtained a lawyer that I can't afford. We are set to appear in September of this year. I haven't laid my eyes on my children in almost 2 years. Raunchino James has been serving a 21 year sentence for a crime he did not commit. He refused to plead guilty as offered in exchange for a lighter sentence because he knew that he was not guilty of the crime. During this trial there was basically no evidence, as there were no matching fingerprints, no weapons found, not even a matching description in the evidence presented by prosecutors. There was no physical evidence to substantiate a verdict of guilty handed down by the judge who tried the case. Later it was discovered that there was false testimony given, NO DNA, and conflicting testimony!!! Raunchino James, a college graduate, an upwardly mobile young Black man, along with two other young men, were sentenced to over 20 years in prison for the crime of home invasion. This was a lengthy sentence for a crime that he did not commit. Let's start by challenging the system, by changing things, by protesting the faulty, unfair criminal justice system! This is a son of a personal friend, so it touches my heart deeply to see a life destroyed needlessly and to know that this is going on every day in this country. Let's make a difference!

Our prisons are way too crowded not leaving enough for for the violent offenders. We are spending money each day to house non-violent or drug offenders when we could be sending them to rehabs and diversion centers.
