I have not been personally affected by this issue, other than to be ashamed that the U.S. is number one in prisoners per capita. Whatever it is we're doing, we're doing it wrong. Let's take the profit out of keeping people in prison.

The United States has the highest documented incarceration rate of any nation.When prisoners(Known as Residents at the Tacoma Facility) are a source of revenue for private companies this rate is only going to increase. After 40 days, Ramon Mendoza Pascual and Jesus Cipriano Rios are the two remaining hunger strikers at the ICE Detention Center in Tacoma, WA. Ramon and Jesus have decided not to stop the hunger strike, even though they have told Ramon that his kidneys may fail if he continues. The GEO Group has systematically attempted to silence these two brave individual's efforts. Instead of listening to the protesters, the GEO Group has threatened to force-feed them, and sentenced participants to solitary confinement. At this time information provided by Maru Mora Villalpando from Latino Advocacy reports: Both are receiving milk with vitamins and are in medical isolation and segregation (but Ramon was released after his 20 day sentence, and now it seems he has been placed in “administrative segregation” which means also isolation). Jesus has about 8 more days to go in solitary confinement but we are afraid he will be placed in “administrative segregation” as well when his sentence is over. Ramon was told his kidneys can fail at this point (close to 40 days of hunger strike now all together). Cipriano has been told he is still doing ok." I'm starting this petition in the hope that the proper authorities will conduct a fair investigation of the murder of Jesus Huerta. We are not satisfied with the explanation that he shot himself in the head while his hands were cuffed behind his back.

Why? Because first-time offenders should not be held to the same stringent parole eligibility requirements as repeat and habitual offenders. Also, a lack of maturity and under developed sense of responsibility are found in youth more often than in adults and are more understandable among the young. These qualities often result in impetuous and ill-considered actions and decisions. Essentially, both categories of offenders (the first-timers and youthful) deserve less punishment.

The state on a whole suffers when it insists on holding people down specifically, tax payers, commerce and families are the ones adversely effected by housing offenders for excessive number of years.

I am a patient advocate. Chris is not a drug kingpin, he is a patient, with a family. When the police can go in without a warrant, which Long Beach does on a regular basis, it is a police state, something needs to be done. We have appealed to many, and nobody in government is listening.
