  • Pledge To Protect: U.S. Congress, Pledge to Prevent Genocide
"Whenever men and women are persecuted because of their race, religion, or political views, that place must - at that moment - become the center of the universe." - Elie Wiesel, Author, Nobel Laureate, and Holocaust Survivor After the Holocaust, the world said "Never Again." Yet today, global displacement as a result of conflict and atrocities has hit a record high. Conflicts in Burma, Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Central African Republic, Sudan, South Sudan, and elsewhere rage on despite billions spent on humanitarian relief, damage to regional economies, and enormous refugee crises. As a recent report by the humanitarian NGO Mercy Corps stated, "Just ten years ago, about 80 percent of humanitarian aid went to helping the victims of natural disasters. Yet today, 80 percent of aid is going to people whose lives have been turned upside down by conflict. The change has been so dramatic that the World Bank now recognizes conflict as the primary cause of poverty and human suffering -- not just one among various causes." As one of the most influential world powers, the United States has a moral and pragmatic responsibility to invest in and support genocide prevention efforts. Passing the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act (GAPA) would be an immense step in the right direction, improving U.S. government coordination on atrocity prevention, providing flexible funding to respond to unforeseen crises, and requiring Foreign Service Officers to undergo atrocity prevention training. These policies would massively improve our ability to respond to and mitigate emerging atrocities. As we reflect on the lives lost to genocide and mass atrocities throughout history, we commit ourselves to fighting for a world without genocide and mass atrocities. We urge Congress to support GAPA, and invite you to #PledgeGAPAGAPA with us. The U.S. has long been a leader in the fight to end genocide; we must continue to lead on this vital bipartisan issue before more innocent lives are needlessly cut short.

  • Create "Trick or Treat Day" on the Last Saturday of October!
The Anna and Raven Show from Star 99.9 understands the frustration of both parents and homeowners when trick or treating falls on a school night. Many love this tradition but when it lands on a day during the week, it becomes a burden for parents and homeowners alike. By creating a "Trick or Treat Day" across Connecticut as the last Saturday of October, then the inconvenience is alleviated and those who celebrate October 31st as a religious holiday can continue with their annual traditions. We believe that starting Connecticut's "Trick or Treat Day" in October of 2018 gives state residents plenty of time to adapt to the new day of celebration and candy giving!

  • !!!We Need The Bumper Plates!!!
The NYU Brooklyn Athletic Facilities (BAF) made the decision to remove one of the most essential equipment -- the bumper plates. Gym members were in shock upon realizing there is not a single bumper plate left at the gym. The gym management team claimed that the removal of the bumper plates is for the safety of the individuals, and for maintenance of the equipment. However, without information on the number of incidents that are directly related to using the bumper plates and the damages of equipment that are proven to be caused by using the bumper plates, simply removing one of the most essential equipment is NOT an effective solution. In addition, it is claimed that people who work at the office located in the weight room have complained about noises from using the bumper plates. An office that is inside a weight room contains certain risks due to its inappropriate location and its poorly designed infrastructure. The effort of maintaining a "quiet" work environment for a cubicle located in a weight room should not be made at the expense of sacrificing the training of the very people who give essence to the gym.

  • DeVos: Do not protect rapists on college campuses
Trump's Education Department announced last week that universities were free to raise the bar for evidence in holding students responsible for rape. This move rescinded two Obama-era protections for victims of sexual assault, making campuses across the nation more dangerous. Halfway through my second year at Grinnell College in Iowa, I was sexually assaulted. I think frequently about how much less safe my school was for the people around me, who continued to attend class and live with my rapist. Despite my rapist facing no punitive action, Grinnell took some steps toward preventing sexual violence: during my time in college, between 5 and 10 repeat offenders in their class were suspended or expelled for Title IX infractions. Despite my own abuser remaining on campus, I felt safer knowing that serial rapists were not welcome in our community. Betsy DeVos just took away that security. The security that needed to be expanded, not eliminated, for gender justice. We cannot sit back and allow our communities of learning to become dangerous for all students, and safe for perpetrators of violence. Sign on to tell Betsy DeVos and the Trump administration that we won’t stand for keeping rapists on our college campuses.

  • Home Depot help ravaged islands that have supported you!
An Open letter to Craig A. Menear, Chairman, CEO and President of Home Depot Dear Sir: The Home Depot has earned a substantial amount of money this past year. During the second quarter of 2017, you earned 28.1 billion dollars. A very impressive amount of money. On August 15, 2017 you stated, “We were pleased with our results this quarter as our customers rewarded us with the highest quarterly sales in company history.” As you know, Barbuda, Dominica and Puerto Rico were impacted severely by hurricanes Irma and Maria. According to Fortune, Latinos are responsible for 29% of real income growth in the United States. It stands to reason that we, a segment of your customer base, have contributed to your earnings. In Puerto Rico, alone, you have eight locations. Clearly, you stand to earn a substantial amount of money as these islands rebuild. We ask that you reciprocate by donating basic construction supplies: wood, nails, concrete to these islands as they are in dire need. This will not only be a grand humanitarian gesture, but it will put the Home Depot on the map as a leader in community development. We, the undersigned, respectfully submit this request to you and hope that you will respond favorably to our plea.

  • Make it illegal to have plan events during alabama games.
I almost missed the game yesterday and this social injustice must stop. As men we are constantly bombarded with events that are designed to keep us from enjoying football. That is unconstitutional. As husbands that love our wives, we get put in a very uncomfortable position, and have to tag along at these unconstitutional events. Roll tide, and thank you in advance
