• Ohio Assault Weapons Ban
In Ohio, we limit to three the number of shotgun slugs a hunter can have in his or her rifle while deer hunting. Why in the world do we offer a better chance of survival to a deer than we do to a nightclub patron? First, as the author of this petition, I want to be clear about my position. I own a handgun and I support the right of other responsible people to also own handguns and sporting weapons. Furthermore, unlike most of the people who are vocal about their right to protect themselves with a gun, I've actually been in situations where I've used my gun for self protection—twice last summer alone, once when a man broke into our home in the middle of the night, and another time when I crossed paths with a feral hog at my farm. But for the life of me, I see no reason why anyone needs an assault-style weapon for self-protection. I get the attraction and enjoyment that some people find in owning these sorts of weapons They are a lot of fun. I also acknowledge that an assault weapons ban is an infringement against the majority of people who use them responsibly. But, dammit, I am so tired of seeing innocent children slaughtered by these weapons. Some people feel a better solution would be to arm everyone. I don't see that working. Not everyone wants to carry a gun, and not everyone wants to live in a world where they feel they need to do so in order to go about their daily affairs. They would prefer some common-sense alternative that would help keep assault-style weapons out of the hands of crazies, criminals, and terrorists. Furthermore, it's reckless to suggest that a gun is the best choice for folks who don't want to carry guns to begin with, who are afraid of them, and who wouldn't put the time in that's needed in order to be proficient in their use. I also know that both sides of this debate arrived at different conclusions about the effectiveness of the federal assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. About the only thing that they agreed on was that it appeared to lower the incidents of mass shootings. That'll work. Is there a Constitutional issue here? That's a red herring, in my mind. As the Supreme Court has ruled a number of times, the Constitution is not a suicide pact, nor is it a device designed to assist mass murderers and terrorists. Of course an assault weapons ban isn't going to stop every instance of mass murder or every type of terrorist attack. Of course there needs to be more effort made to identify the people who truly intend to misuse these weapons to kill children and cut short promising lives. But it might help some. An assault weapons ban is not a perfect remedy, but it's an uneasy compromise I'll accept at this point if it helps keep just one more nut from causing mayhem at just one more elementary school. Addendum: Some people have contacted me to state that it's hard to define what an assault weapon is. Ultimately, that's a legislature's responsibility to define, but here's my suggestion for a starting point--an assault weapon is a firearm with a barrel length greater than 12 inches AND holding more than 11 rounds at a time AND able to fire 30 rounds or more within two minutes. If a firearm meets all three of these conditions, it's an assault weapon. If a firearm does not meet all three of these conditions, it's not an assault weapon.

  • Release Norma Toussaint
This petition is to speak for all of the individuals that are simply trying to raise productive members of society. With all that's going on in the world, it is simply not fair to jail a 70 year old woman for whipping her grandchild, while police around the world are killing people with no consequence. It is time to take a stand!!!

  • Demand Justice for Dog Brutally Murdered In Pearl River
Just yesterday a horrible injustice was committed . A loving pet dog was brutally stabbed to death...Nothing was done to this person for this horrible heinous act! No fine, no court date , no slap on the wrist!!! It is an educated fact someone capable of such an atrocity is just as likely to commit such an act on a person, perhaps even a child. Animals have absolutely no voice and no defense up against morality, that is strictly the territory of humans. Numbers are growing more and more everyday, with reports of cruel and hate filled cases, and yet they go unpunished or given ridiculously low fines . Why does a living, feeling creature of God, innocent of a single sin endure gratuitous suffering devoid of reason and justification when we, as overseers to their dominion, could put laws into place to protect them from cruelty? Please help justice be served in this case as well as so many other animals that have died cruel and senseless deaths vulnerable to criminal aggression.

  • Darrell Issa you dont represent ME!
For 16 years Darrell Issa has sat in Congress and collected a pay check while doing nothing to advance the lives of his constituents. For far too long he has represented special interests and conservative right wing nut-jobs. Darrell Issa endorsed Donald Trump for President and this goes to show that he is out of touch with the people of his district, California, and the American people! #DumpDarrellTrump #FireIssa To find out more about Col. Doug Applegate, please visit his website www.ApplegateForCongress.com. We must do all we can to remove Darrell and take back OUR congress!

  • Racism Does Not Belong On Television: Tell CNN To Fire Corey Lewandowski
As Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski was responsible for helping launch one of the most racist political campaigns in recent history - and is now being rewarded by one biggest new cable networks in the United States. In a shameless move to increase their ratings, CNN is providing Lewandowski with a salaried position and a national platform to promote Donald Trump’s hatred and racism. Even worse, CNN is hiring Lewandowski to cater specifically to Donald Trump supporters - since their regular Republican contributors oppose Donald Trump’s candidacy. By hiring Corey Lewandowski as a regular commentator, CNN is effectively validating the opinions of a man who repeatedly denied press access to journalists covering Donald Trump’s campaign, was charged with a misdemeanor after forcibly grabbing reporter who was attempting to ask Donald Trump a question, and who helped normalize Donald Trump’s dangerous and toxic rhetoric. If we want to stop Donald Trump’s racist rhetoric from spreading, then we keep biased political commentators like Corey Lewandowski from appearing on networks like CNN. We demand that CNN terminates Corey Lewandowski’s contract and removes him as a political commentator immediately!

  • Adult Hours at the Reunion Pool
As it is right now, there is little-to-no chance of adults utilizing the pool that all residents pay dues for. I would love to make use of the pool, as would others, for swimming laps and such but are currently unable to do so. We are requesting that adults only be allowed from 6pm to close, 3 days a week (such as Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Six hours of the 72 hours that the pool is open each week seems a reasonable compromise.

  • CNN: Drop Abusive Corey Lewandowski
CNN just hired former Donald Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski as a salaried pundit, even though Lewandowski has a long history of treating the media poorly, including being arrested for allegedly physically assaulting a reporter at an event. Lewandowski has barred reporters from doing their jobs by placing them on "blacklists" and threatening reporters who left the "press pen" the campaign requires them to report from. Reports indicate he cursed at and pushed CNN reporter Noah Gray for simply doing his job. And in March, Lewandowski was "charged with misdemeanor battery for forcibly grabbing reporter Michelle Fields as she tried to ask Trump a question following an event." • MSM: Include ALL Major Presidential Candidates
Many voters think they have only two options for President on general election day. Yet voters are dissatisfied with the two most popular parties, as evidenced by registration statistics: 26% Republican, 29% Democrat, and 44% Independent. The media needs to do a better job of informing the public about their choices, and giving third parties a fair chance at vying for votes.

  • Replace 'No Turn on Red' with 'Yield' sign on Greenwood Ave. Bridge
I and many other local drivers find the 'No Turn on Red' sign at the Greenwood Ave. Bridge crossing an unnecessary waste of time and gas. Neither PennDOT nor the borough council accepts responsibility for putting it there - let's ask the Public Safety Committee and Jenkintown Borough Council to replace it with a 'Yield' sign.

  • Investigate Jim Jordan & the House Freedom Caucus for Ethics Violations
The House Freedom Caucus is a subversive, ultra-right-wing group of approximately 40 Reps in the U.S. House. The secretive group does not even publish an official list of it's members. It has been reported by the Pew Research Center that "decisions agreed to by 80% of the caucus are supposed to be binding on all." This would seem to violate the U.S. House of Representative's Code of Ethics and the democratic principles that our government is founded upon. The House Ethics Manual includes the Code of Ethics for Government Service which states that those in government service should "make no private promises binding on the duties of office." A Representative's vote should be cast on the behalf of that Representative's constituents and be based upon their own conscience. If true that members of the Freedom Caucus have taken an oath to bind their vote a certain way, even if that vote violates their conscience and disagrees with the way that the Representative had intended to vote, then the very nature of our democracy has been compromised. A Representative should not encumber their vote to anything other than their Oath of Office. The House Ethics Committee needs to investigate the matter to determine if such an oath has been taken. If an oath has been taken the Committee must determine who has taken it and what votes were potentially changed due to the oath. Appropriate punishment must then be handed down to any Representatives guilty of any ethics violations.

  • Tell Apple CEO Tim Cook: Don't fund hate!
Just two days after Apple announced that it would not support a Republican National Convention led by Donald Trump and his hate-filled campaign, news broke that Apple's CEO Tim Cook was planning to host a private fundraiser for GOP House Speaker Paul Ryan and other House Republicans in Menlo Park, CA. It is saddening to see that just days after taking the courageous stand to not align with Trump's brand of racism, vitriol and misogyny, Apple CEO Tim Cook is planning to raise money for the same Republicans that are backing Donald Trump. The same Republicans who have blocked legislation to expand workplace protections to LGBTQ people, who have consistently denied climate change, and who have opposed common sense gun safety reforms supported by the overwhelming majority of the American people.
