• Tell the Sunday Shows: Enough John McCain
If Senator John McCain had his way, we'd be arming ISIS in Syria and fighting them on-the-ground after they cross over the border into Iraq. It's enough to make you wonder why television news shows have him on so often. It's not that there shouldn't be voices critical of the president on Sunday shows, but a bit of diversity from the McCain-Graham view of more war, everywhere, would be nice. In 2013, John McCain made twenty-five appearances on various Sunday network talk shows. That's enough for an individual who has just about exhausted his last measure of credibility on these issues. Sign our petition if you agree.

  • PM Lamothe for President 2016
We are at a critical juncture in our history as a people. Therefore, we have a choice to make between the past and the future. If we want a better Haiti for our children and our children's children, it is imperative that we rally behind PM Lamothe. Otherwise, Lavalas will win the National Palace, and they will take the country back to the dark era of Pelebren, dechoukaj, arrogant ignorance, lawlessness, organized crimes, muzzling of the press, etc...

  • Vote NO to selling Lincoln School
As a resident of Ward 3, I feel 12 days is not enough time to consider the pros and cons of selling Lincoln School and such a decision should not be made in such haste. Many residents of Creston's 3rd ward agree that 29 units (16 senior apartments and 13 town homes) is TOO MUCH to develop and only benefits a few people. And, fellow Crestonians agree. Seldin's proposed project also takes away our neighborhood play space. Other wards have green space, why take ours? In conversations, Seldin's developers were very clear that forgoing the town home portion of the plan on the green space was not an option. We want a library that will invest in future generations, and the library's new plans reflect that. The new library and cultural center will increase our property values while creating a place that inspires, heals and empowers our community. Don't you agree that Creston deserves that? Don't feel rushed in your decision. If you do, vote no to Seldin Company.

  • Save Our Trees
Caltrans has begun removing the trees along the 101 right of way, down Kansas St., and it has increased the noise significantly. The trees are the only protection this side of Potrero Hill has from the freeway sites/sounds/dirt/grime/etc. Caltrans should stop removing trees and replace the ones we've lost with some sort of sound/sight barrier.

My child, along with many other children, has very dangerous and deadly allergies. Going to the school system and fighting them at the administration level seems to give me the impression they are resistant. I'm not sure why. Maybe it requires a little extra work? Regardless of the reason. My child's safety is just as important as the next. And I will NOT allow my child to be a statistic !

  • Emergency Responce Protocol Enhancement
On Wednesday the 14th of May, 2014, my fiancee, Nancy Gale Smith was involved in a serious multi-car accident. I witnessed the tragic event. I was at our car in less than a minute. While she was not responsive to my voice, I observed her chest rising and falling. Two other men also checked and found a pulse. She had a pulse for approximately 3 minutes while I was on the phone with 911. I informed the 911 operator that the doors were jammed and she was not breathing. When EMS arrived, they did not drive up to the only vehicle with serious damage, instead they stopped 50 to 75 yards up the road. I ran towards them pleading for help. They responded in a casual manner. They did not carry any medical equipment as they slowly walked to the car Nancy was trapped in. The only thing they did was check for a pulse and then call a signal seven (it's a code used to officially pronounce someone dead.) When I saw an EMS put a towel over Nancy's head, I asked them repeatedly to just remove her from the car and at least try to revive her. The lead paramedic answered every plea to help her with the same generic line, "she's suffered too much trauma." The only wound that I could see was a slight cut to her upper shoulder. I pleaded again and again for the paramedics to just try. Again and again they refused. I have since tried to determine what trauma Nancy could have suffered that was so obvious to the paramedics, buy county officials will not cooperate. We are seeking petitions to give to proper authorities so that the response of this accident can be investigated and the lead paramedic be called upon to answer specifically why he refused to offer any medical aid to Nancy Gale Smith. We also must know how many other car accident victims have been refused aid due to such a vague and incompetent EMS response protocol. If these serious protocol errors are not investigated and justice is not rendered, the next time it could be your wife, husband, daughter, or other loved one that lies helpless in a car while Polk County Rescue members refuse to help and never have to answer for their inaction

  • CUOMO MUST DEBATE!
Debates are a vital part of our democratic process. As a law student focused in public service I’m learning that a clean government is worth much more than we give credit. Democracy is more than a word, or an ideal, it’s action! And it’s worth preserving. The costs of corruption are often hidden, buried inside our tax bill, our rent, or the prices we pay in the store. Democracy is not a Coronation. Debates matter and part of a transparent, uncorrupt, legitimate democracy. It is time to refocus the candidate debate away from political posturing in favor of political responsibility. We need to hear how our candidates respond when probed by people who either disagree with them or who simply want them to clarify their positions or provide more detail. Gov. Cuomo has every reason to refuse to a debate with primary challenger Zephyr Teachout. The conventional wisdom has always been that the candidate leading in the polls has fewer reasons to participate, especially when he has a $35 million war chest. But, shouldn’t the fact that a citizen of New York, and a resident of Harlem wants to ask both candidates questions and hear their unscripted answers, be reason enough to participate in such a debate? Isn’t that what democracy looks like. I’m a law student part of a Public Interest Law and Ethics program called Stein Scholars at Fordham University School of Law. The program competitively selects students and trains them for future careers in the public sphere. I live in Harlem, NY.
