Reinstate Artwork Censored by Kennesaw State University PresidentDear President Daniel Papp, As members of the metro Atlanta art community, we are dismayed and disappointed by the decision of Kennesaw State University President Daniel Papp to remove a commissioned artwork by Ruth Stanford from the inaugural exhibition of the university’s new Zuckerman Museum of Art, opening this evening, March 1 (VIP reception at 5:00 p.m., public opening at 6:30). KSU is a state public institution with an educational mission that should promote dialogue about history and difficult subjects, not squelch First Amendment rights and artistic expression. Stanford’s work eloquently and tactfully addresses a contentious time in Georgia’s history and KSU’s controversial acquisition of property once owned by author and lynching apologist Corra Harris. In her installation, Stanford explores the complexity of Harris’s views and literary works, which are both “poetic and beautiful,” as Stanford says, and a reflection of the time in which she lived. The “celebratory” opening that President Papp purports to be protecting has already been ruined by his very action, which undermines the autonomy and curatorial integrity of the museum staff. We respectfully request that the Zuckerman Museum be allowed to reinstall Stanford’s artwork and that President Papp issue an apology to the artist and art community.1,427 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Burnaway.org

Their Deaths Mattered, Enforce FDAAA as WrittenIn 2007, thousands and thousands of pets died due to contaminated vegetable protein ingredients imported from China. At the time, Congress realized the seriousness of the recall – and realized the very same reckless contamination could happen to any food (human or animal) unless foods and ingredients of food were clearly defined including a quality standard. Example: the wheat gluten imported from China that resulted in the 2007 pet food recall met the legal definition of the ingredient. But there was no legal/regulatory quality standard of wheat gluten to specifically state it can not contain melamine or other toxic ingredients. FDAAA specifically included 'standards' to protect consumers. Pet food trade groups are trying to influence members of Congress to change FDAAA - removing the very wording (standards) that can help assure consumers another 2007 disaster won't happen. Don't allow pet food/animal feed industry trade groups to remove the pet food ingredient quality standard requirement of FDAAA. The Congressional requirement of FDAAA was to be completed by September 2009. Our pets paid the highest price for these laws, don't allow the unscrupulous actions of industry trade groups to delay this any longer.1,650 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Susan Thixton

Stop the time changeTime changes that happen twice a year are disruptive to people's lives and rest. Having to re acclimate twice a year is very hard on the average person but extremely hard on those of us that suffer from adjustment problems. This causes increase in problems such as depression and sleep disturbances. Since we are no longer a society that has the same needs as when daylight savings time was placed in effect, this practice should be stopped.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Censi Childs

Amend Illinois Cottage Food Law to allow more direct sales of homemade foodsYears ago, I started decorating cakes. And because of a recently passed law in my home state of Illinois, I can now sell my cakes at the Farmers Market to make some money while also watching my grandkids three days a week. This is wonderful! But surprisingly, I am prohibited from handing the very same buttercream-topped cake to someone at the front door. The cake is the same cake yet selling it from the controlled environment of my home is not legal while selling it in conditions that are often less than ideal – like a hot, dusty and buggy Farmers Market in the summer – is perfectly fine. I want Illinois legislators to expand the laws around Cottage Foods (foods made at home) so that home cooks like me can sell the food we make more easily and safely. Being able to do so would mean more financial independence and stability for families like mine because these are skills and resources I already have and can make use of right at home. And it could mean more money for the state, too, through certification fees and licensing. Most importantly, people all over Illinois would be able to buy foods made by someone they know, and that they know were made with great care. They would know their purchase was helping support local families, too, and the state. Please sign my petition and tell Illinois's legislators to expand the overly restrictive Cottage Food Laws to better support Illinois home cooks like me.26 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kathleen Cherie, with Peers.org

Ban Factory Farming!Animals deserve to live a happy and healthy life, not be confined to small places without sun or fresh air. They feel pain and depression and should not be subjected to mutilation and prolonged torture. The food we eat is also affected by their waning health and distress. Cows, pigs, chickens and turkeys, sheep, goats, and rabbits should get fresh air and sun daily and fed nutritional food according to their natural diet.1,130 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Mary Neary

.@pressfreedom: Fix Your False Reporting on VenezuelaIn a February 20, 2014 report, the Committee to Protect Journalists claimed that "Nearly all TV stations in Venezuela are either controlled or allied with the government of Nicolás Maduro and have ignored the nationwide protests." [1] Evidence demonstrating that this claim is false is a matter of public record. Indeed, public pressure just compelled the New York Times to correct a claim similar to the CPJ claim. [2] The Committee to Protect Journalists should correct its false report. Urge the Committee to Protect Journalists to correct its false report by signing our petition. On February 24, CEPR Co-director Mark Weisbrot of CEPR noted that [3] data published by the Carter Center [4] for television coverage during the campaign for the presidential election last year indicated that the two candidates were fairly evenly represented. Weisbrot also noted that in the recent coverage of Venevisión, the biggest broadcast television station, we can find plenty of programming where “voices critical of the government” … are “regularly broadcast,” citing an interview [5] on Venevisión news with Tomás Guanipa, leader of the opposition Primero Justicia (Justice First) party and a representative in the National Assembly, who defended the protests. Weisbrot also noted that Globovisión recently broadcast a long interview with opposition leader María Corina Machado, in which she argued that the opposition has the right to overthrow the democratically elected government. [6] In the current situation in Venezuela, falsely claiming that mass media are closed to critics of the government is a dangerous mistake, similar to reporting that "we know that Iran is building a nuclear weapon." This false claim about Venezuela emboldens the faction of the opposition, and its supporters abroad, which is advocating the use of violence to oppose the government. Urge the Committee to Protect Journalists to fulfill its responsibility to publish a correction to its false report. References: 1. People against Party Down South in Pensacola FloridaPensacola is a town of incredible attractions with a growing economy. Pensacola has a strong population of young professionals, Military men and women, new and growing businesses, Blue Angels, sugar white sands and good family fun. We have a great nightlife scene too. We're hoping we can be put on the map based on our support to keep our integrity, not selling it to a show that exploits 8 people for $500 an episode.2,500 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Andy Harris
