• Be part of the Wave of Kindness as it spreads across the Globe!
It seems pretty simple to me: We need to do better. We know we can do better, and now that we know better, together let's see how far goodness can take us! (very much paraphrased quote of Maya Angelou) "You create your own universe as you go along" Winston Churchill "All that we are is a result of what we have thought" - Buddha "What this power is, I cannot say. All I know is that it exists." Alexander Graham Bell "Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life's coming attractions." Albert Einstein "Whatever the mind of man can conceive, it can achieve" W. Clement Stone 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.

  • Trader Joe's: Combat the Food Desert in Woodlawn
My family has a lot of food sensitivities and dietary restrictions and the only place I can shop in Woodlawn for healthy foods is the 61st Street Farmer's Market. As I worked with a local organization to further research this issue, I discovered that while our community has significant buying power, our current stores are not providing healthy fresh options and the grocery store brokers are not counting our daytime population which includes the University of Chicago, U of C Hospitals, and many more large employers.

  • fulton county "discipline abusive supervisors"
After reporting that a supervisor told me to suck his penis, being verbally abused and threatened with write ups and suspensions by 2 supervisors at the fulton county medical examiners office and going through chain of command nothing has been done because of the clique at that office that holds together,i got no help from my union, none from managers, when i complained about safety issues especially about these 2 supervisors laughing after a deceased person had been dropped to the floor twice, the bullying got worse. After a mild heart attack due to stress i was placed on leave with pay, then on leave without pay,yet these two supervisors who have forced two other employees to quit still continue to work and fulton county has done nothing about them. My job is now on the line i have a 14 yr old son to support this has to stop.

  • DMV and Social Security: Use the "ñ" in Spanish names!
The Department of Motor Vehicles and Social Security Administration changed my first name from "Begoña" to “Begona." As a result, people typically mispronounce it as Bee-go-na, instead of Bee-go-nee-ah. I also have friends with last names (like Castañeda) whose names are rendered without the "ñ" and are mispronounced.

  • Operation: Bring Back The Old Disney Channel
Disney, Why are you changing everything that was amazing into too much in everything when all the classics were great and not too over the top!? For example, That's So Raven. There was not too many laughs, not huge drama issues, and finally not bad of actors. There are just too much fake actors it seems to me on some reality shows now in Disney and fewer cartoons please throw back the classics because I don't really want to watch fake people on air who showed me that there just here to be pretty. And I am 14 who's posting this people and my brother is 10 who told me he wants it back as well so come on who you fooling? Thanks for reading my petition and I hope you bring the shows back.

  • Revoke the Tax Exempt Status of the Westboro Baptist Church
Both The Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center list The WBC as a Hate Group, picketing the funerals of innocents, such as the children and adults of Newton, CT, and picketing the funeral of actor Paul Walker, military veterans, among others, based on their bigotry and homophobia, and the Southern Baptist Convention, along with The Baptist World Alliance, two of the largest Baptist denominations, don't recognize them as a sanctioned church, and have actually denounced the WBC. I am appalled that such hatred and self-righteous mockery of all that we as Americans hold dear can be, and is, rewarded by the continuing of granting them tax-exempt status. They do not deserve our generosity as tax-paying citizens, but our pity at their foolish blindness to truths that we strive for every day.

  • Put a stop to the blatant abuse of power
After working 31 years for the State of Ohio I found myself unemployed for the first time in my life due to my willingness in exercising my 1st amendment rights by speaking out against Governor Kasich's lack of diversity in his cabinet, his blatant attempts to strip certain Ohioan's voting rights & his selection of the Director of The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Corrections, Gary Mohr who happens to specialize in privatizing prisons. They began abusing their power via harassment after my avid support for President Obama!

  • Does MADD endorse people who have been convicted *four* times for DUI being allowed to get driver...
If someone can't stop drinking and driving after three DUIs it seems obvious that s/he can't stop her/himself from drinking and driving. If the rehabilitation regime in the Nekritz-Hasting bill is an iron clad guarantee the individual won't drink and drive, then let's apply it after the second or third DUI. After four DUI *convictions* one should lose the privilege of driving for life. Illinois has plenty of communities served by public transportation. People who can't control their drinking and driving should live there.

  • Justice for Scotty
Our son, Scott is an avid ice hockey player. He has complete respect for the game, its’ players and spectators alike both on and off the ice. As a player on the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs Junior Varsity team his season has been cut short. On 2/15/14 at 8:15pm he attended the Long Beach rink’s open hockey session for a friendly scrimmage; where there is a NO checking/hitting rule in place. There were three players from the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs varsity at the session mocking the JV players throughout the session. At approximately 9:40pm Nick Lewis intentionally openly checked/hit Scott with such velocity witnessed by other skaters and spectators; causing a clean break to Scott’s wrist on contact. It was not Nick Lewis’ willful or vicious hit on Scott with intention to cause a successful injury that we find most disturbing but the fact that Nick chuckled about it. Nick has shown NO remorse for his vicious unsportsmanlike conduct . Nick has had numerous chances to show some kind of concern, even an offer of apology and he has not, nor have his parents. Apparently it has come to our attention that this was not the first time that Nick has caused injury to another player of this magnitude. Besides Scott’s physical and emotion pain that he is enduring from there is so much being taken from our son unnecessarily. This is Scott’s last season with the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs organization that has now been cut short. He will no longer be able to participate with his team at the state championship, nor at playoffs this season. Scott is a junior in high school this year, a very important year academically as he will be applying to college. In less than 6 weeks he will taking the SAT’s and with an injury on his right arm it will impair his ability to write. There is the potential need for surgery and the need for physical therapy that he will have to endure that could have all been avoided. Scott should not suffer alone in these losses and there should be consequences as a result of this blatant intentional act of violence. Nick Lewis should be punished appropriately for his actions by being removed as a member of AAU and a player from both the Bellmore Merrick Bulldogs and the High School Hockey League of Nassau County. We view this as a fair and justifiable punishment supported by the fact that Nick Lewis has failed to adhere to rules as outlined in the various Codes of Conduct that Nick Lewis is required to sign in order to play with the Bellmore Merrick Bulldogs. These rules apply on AND off the ice include but are limited to · I will demonstrate good sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, and officials at every game, practice or other sporting event. · I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures · Set an example in word and deed, both on and off the playing area. · Use appropriate language and refrain from crude or abusive language or gestures when dealing with opponents, officials, spectators, or classmates. · Refrain from disorderly, disruptive or insubordinate behaviors including bullying or harassment. · Be responsible for their behaviors. Therefore, students who are found to have violated district policy and/or the code of conduct will face disciplinary actions. · Treat all players, coaches, officials, parents and other fans, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation or creed with respect to refrain from abusive language, actions, and gestures, while either on or off the ice. Further, Nick Lewis signed an oath: “I also agree that if I fail to abide by the aforementioned rules and guidelines, I will be subject to disciplinary action …….”. Please sign our petition to discipline Nick Lewis immediately as a member of AAU and a player from both the Bellmore Merrick Ice Hockey Bulldogs Team and the High School Hockey League of Nassau County for his unsportsmanlike conduct and violent attack.
