Save swallow nests on VashonFor years, barn swallows have nested on the lamps at the recycling center where their babies are protected from the elements and predators. Recently, the county decided this is unacceptable and plans to use barriers to block the swallows from re-nesting at their chosen spot again next year. These beautiful, insect-eating birds do not pose any known health risks and state guidelines advise against interfering with their nesting. Please sign this petition urging King County to leave the site alone so that the swallows can return to their nests again next spring. Stop Contractor Theft/Fraud in NHIn the State of NH building contractors such as roofers, carpenters, home remodelers are not required to be licensed. When they do work poorly or don't do work at all, there is little that can be done to protect consumers from losing a lot of money. They can be granted judgements and liens which are then added to a list of creditors when a contractor files bankruptcy. NOT ALL CONTRACTORS are bad, but some are. A little over nine months ago my family became victims of a contractor gone wrong. With decent Better Business Bureau ratings and a fair amount of positive online reviews, a contractor provided us a decently priced estimate to purchase and install 21 windows and an entry door into our 120 year old fixer-upper home. My husband cashed in his retirement plans with dreams of investing in our home which would then become our retirement plan upon it sale once our kids were grown. We handed the contractor a check for $9,000 and never saw him again. Eventually we were granted a judgment for repayment and the contractor was prohibited from taking any kind of deposits before satisfactory completion of a job. We were one couple in a growin list of victims that took action and contacted the NH Attorney General. Since then, we've received notice that te contractor and his associate business names has filed for bankruptcy. We have no hope that we will get our money back and no way to purchase windows for our home again. In an effort to protect consumers like us, I have created this petition that will ask the State of NH to take action and protect its consumers with the added benefit of protecting contractors that are honest and fair as well. I propose that when a consumer accepts a bid on a job be it a remodel, building a new structure, updating an existing structure, etc. the contractor will place the money for the job into an escrow account that neither party can access until the job has been completed to the satisfaction of both parties. The contract should clearly state specific terms including the deadline for job completion and avenues for resolution including arbriteation and mediation should either party become unhappy. If hard deadlines aren't met, consumers should be entitled to a refund in full for no work completed down to a discounted rate per day of being late. I consumers feel that the work was not completed or was done poorly a third party would be required to evaluate the work that was done and through mediation and arbriteation, determine what, if any portion of the money should be refunded. This will prevent contractors from taking deposits and running or from failing to complete a job at all or within a reasonable time frame. Further, this will prevent contractors from being treated unfairly by consumers that make up excuses to get out of paying the full contract price.8 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Erica Buteau

Demand that Paul Ryan debate his congressional challenger, Rob Zerban. As a constituent of Paul Ryan's I am appalled that he won't even respond to debate requests. Congressman Ryan and his Democratic congressional challenger Rob Zerban present drastically different visions for the future of the country and we deserve the opportunity to hear our candidates debate. Will you stand with me and Wisconsin's 1st Congressional District and demand that Paul Ryan comes back and debates Rob Zerban?931 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Patricia P.

Show support for Small Business and Democrats.Scott Van Nuzer, owner of Big Apple Pizza in Ft. Pierce, FL. had a picture of him giving the President a hug go viral. Since then some very hateful people have suggested boycotting Big Apple Pizza and some have even written negative comments about his business on Yelp simply due to his hugging the President. Please show your support for Big Apple Pizza by signing this petiton, ordering his pizza (buycott instead of boycott), and/or writing words of support on Yelp or other business rating sites.5 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lee Frank

Ask President Obama to issue an executive order requiring transparency in political donationsOne of the horrors of the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision is the lack of transparency it allows in the untold millions that flow into presidential and congressional elections through superPACs. Even foreign governments like Saudi Arabia and China have access to congressional races. By mandating that transparency after the election season has begun, these corporate sources of donations can be used against their recipients. The breadcrumbs of corruption and quid quo pro will be visible to all, and their existence will be useful ammo in ads even when a candidate is being outspent 8 to 1. President Obama has, through the executive order process, the power to require all companies, nations, and private entities that have contracts with the US government to make political donations public. Now is the time to make this happen so this information can best benefit the underdogs in this political cycle.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Todd Telford

No to GMO!My petition is about the food safety in America. Almost everything we eat today is Genetically Engineered, without any study having been done on its safety or lack of! 5o countries, which include all the European countries, India, Africa amongst them, have either banned the sale of these foods, or they have laws to insure that the consumer is aware of these foods. However in U.S. majority of people aren't even aware of this issue, and it is even effecting the so called "organic foods", because of the seeds farmers use, and many other factors. I am not a scientist, but I know when I hear that they are working on an apple that will not turn brown once it's cut, it is time to speak up and say we have the right to know! thank you6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Roya
