• Everyone Votes
We need to follow Australia's lead ... make voting compulsory, with a fine for not voting ($250 there). It would guarantee that any elected representative has a REAL majority of support; it would negate any need for spending money to "get out the vote", which in turn negates any need for registering as a Party affiliate or "Independent" - and, it would minimize politicians pandering to small but "noisy" pressure groups, because he/she would have to appeal to the broadest section of the society ... the middle. .

  • Get Democratic Convention out of N.C.
The idea that the Democrats should honor the State of North Carolina with their convention this Summer is absurd.

  • Get Democratic Convention out of N.C.
The idea that the Democrats should honor the State of North Carolina with their convention this Summer is increasingly absurd. Why should Democrats support a State that is so overtly anti-female, anti-labor, and anti health care programs???

  • Rescind Tax-Exempt Status to Politically-Active Churches
Churches are tax exempt as long as they remain politically neutral. That's not happening. Opposition to gay rights, a woman's right to choose, religious plurality; scientific findings relevant to evolution, global warming, and human experience come primarily from churches and religious organizations. As long as they make money teaching and preaching these doctrines, they should be subject to federal and state taxation.

  • Credit Card Rip Offs
I would like for Credit Card Companies (banks etc.) to not be able to ruin a person credit rating just because. I have always paid my credit card payments on time, always tried to pay more than the minimum but at the very least I have paid the minimum. Recently I paid, or thought I was paying 2/3 of my balance so I could increase my credit score. Instead I had my credit limit reduced thus my score is still lower than I would like it to be. Due to unprecedented expenses (divorce, legal fees etc.) my credit card balances were high.

  • Mr President: Provide housing for those who fought for our freedom and way of life
With only 1/2 of 1% of Americans serving in the military, it's only fair that those who fought for our freedom and way of life should be afforded an opportunity to buy a house at virtually no cost. And it should be paid for by raising taxes on the 1%. Send a proposal to congress to get this done as a stand-alone or attached to the transportation bill. They deserve this and more!

  • Commiting to 'Character'
Nothing will make this nation stronger than a purposeful focus on developing the best character values in each citizen. We need our government to 'lead by example' and help establish a significant awareness of how good and strong character values can unite us and make us better. We are calling on the White House to 'Commit to Character' by officially identifying each month of the calendar year as being a different character trait. By instigating this 'movement' you will inspire individuals, families, communites, companies to talk, share, discuss and learn about each of the chosen character values.

  • "Stand Your Ground" Repeal
We live in Dorchester; a community that for some is full of danger and to others is full of hope and peace. To those of us who live with this in constant fear, peace of mind is a must. Today, many teens feel unsafe, and are looking for a means of protection. So far they have turned to blades (also known as a hawk, shank, shiv, blade, or the most common term knife). We fear that this is only a stepping-stone towards acquiring a gun. This is an important issue because aside from the Trayvon Martin controversy, many teens are looking for protection, and are liable to turn to a gun because it offers easier protection. Now some Massachusetts state legislators are working on adopting the "Stand Your Ground" law, which in simple terms states that a person may use force if needed in self-defense without any responsibility to retreat. This law would allow anybody (including already paranoid teens) to justifiably use deadly force to protect him or herself. By signing this petition to reject "Stand Your Ground" law, you would be doing your part in helping not only Dorchester but also Massachusetts move one step closer towards obtaining peace and hope through reasonable and sound gun control laws.
