• Ban Horse Slaughter Now!
As a result of spending bill H2112, slaughterhouses in the United States will be able to resume slaughtering horses for human consumption. We are not a nation that raises horses as food animals or one that consumes horse meat. Rather, horses are largely considered companion animals, more similar to dogs and cats than to animals raised for consumption. They should therefore be treated as such, and not subjected to mass slaughter. "The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi

  • Horse Slaughter Bill H2112
The President recently signed legislation that would allow Americans to slaughter Horses for food. 70% of Americans disagree with this bill and yet it was still passed. Americans enjoy riding horses and it is known to be very therapeutic in relieving stress.

  • Restore Paterno's name to Big Ten trophy
Last year, the Big Ten Conference decided to honor Coach Joe Paterno by partially naming the conference championship trophy after him. After Coach Paterno was fired, Commissioner Jim Delany decided to remove his name from the trophy. However, Coach Paterno met his legal responsibility and has not been charged with a crime. None of us can fairly judge what he should or should not have done in a situation which we ourselves did not experience. People are upset and want justice, but our country does not run on mob rule. Unless legal authorities find Coach Paterno to be complicit in the alleged abuse, his name should be restored to the trophy. This petition will be sent to Commissioner Delany on November 30th, a few days before the inaugural Big Ten Championship game.

  • Jumpstarting Laser Cutter for South Campus
This open letter is addressing the laser cutter set up for the full-time students at South Campus. We currently have the laser cutter (two-thirds completed) set up within the Media Design Studio. From our understanding there are two key components that the overall set up lacks : a fume cabinet, for obvious safety reasons, and also a new card reader. Our main concern is getting the new laser cutter to be set up for the Grad Community of Media Design and Fine Art - that have been patiently waiting. We come to Art Center for the experience of working with advance fabrication technology in a studio environment with like-minded peers. You can view the unfinished set up here: http://bit.ly/ucLX9S

  • Protect Our Midtown Neighborhood
The City Commission is being asked to convert a section of our neighborhood from residential to commercial zoning. Traffic and speeding off of Thomasville Road are already a problem, and allowing commercial uses beyond what already exists would make matters worse. The commissioners have an opportunity to allow existing businesses to keep thriving, while protecting our families from increased traffic and speeding. Commissioners Miller and Mustian are meeting with City staff on November 30, 2011 at 9am (at City Hall, Room 4F), so 1) please sign the petition, 2) call the commissioners at 891-8181 to reiterate your concerns (because nothing beats a real live person calling), and 3) attend the meeting if you can - we need a strong showing of support for the staff recommendation to keep our neighborhood residential! For more information, visit www.midtown-neighbors.org.

  • Repealing DOMA means death to society
Males and females are opposites. Marriage is about opposites. Marriage is the foundation of any stable society. Some government officials have taken an evil stand against the sacredness of marriage. Marriage can only be between opposites (male-female). Let’s tell the White House that America believes that the perfect design of our human anatomy is not a mistake.
