We have been provided with a unique opportunity to offer comment and input in the process leading up to SFU's food services contract request for proposals. Whether the university chooses to renew with our current food services provider or go with another provider, this is our chance to let them know that we would like to see more sustainably, ethically and locally sourced foods offered on campus with zero waste dining options prevailing over our current take-out and throw-away culture.

When dads are asked to pay child support the percentage is unfair ; 17 percent is a arbitrary percentage that is unfair for hard working dads who are present in their children's life. Child Support should be individualized and based on a Dads financial ability, a child's necessity and needs, not a mothers wants. Secondly there should be a set visitation calendar which should be 3 days a week and every other weekend, half of the summer months, and entire alternate holidays. I am asking for support for all the good Dads that effected by unfair laws created arbitrarily and limited visitation with their children. Good Dads should be rewarded, not penalized for being positive influence in their children's lives.

I'm insulted that the AARP did not ask me, an 83-year-old member, what I thought about changes to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid as part of any deficit reduction plan that the Supercommittee is charged with providing to Congress by November 23. Actually, I support responsible reform of these entitlements as a vital component of revenue increases. This has also been the position of the major groups that have looked into and made recommendations for deficit reduction (i.e., Rivlin-Dominici; Simpson-Bowles).

Purdue University Calumet is a safe haven for scholarly debate and academic curiosity. However, when students are faced with harassment within the classroom from the professors that are meant to stimulate intellectual dialogue, our education takes a toll. Professor Maurice Eisenstein crossed the line when he began making derogatory comments in the classroom, as well as mentioning students and co-workers by name in a public forum on Facebook. We're calling on him to take it all back, by simply apologizing to his students and co-workers.

I am urging other citizens of the state of Ohio, to tell our new senator, Rob Portman, to do the right thing as a member of the Super Committee.

Dog and cat overpopulation forces over 4 million animals to be euthanized each year at public shelters. In addition to the cost in lives, there is a financial and emotional cost to this problem. The aim of every town or city with a public or private shelter should be to first reduce animal population through low cost spay/neuter surgery and education, including trap, neuter, release and management of feral cats, second, increase adoption campaigns to find homes for existing animals, and third, strive for a "No Kill Shelter" within the next five years.

Some 30 years ago I watched the Independence Day parade from Monmouth to Independence, OR... Small town America swelling from a combined population of 12,000 to over 45,000 participants and spectators for the full day of USA Independence Day celebration beginning with the fire hall breakfast and then a 2 1/2 mile parade that everyone is welcome to join. I thought... “What if 45,000 people we're to turn out for INTERDEPENDENCE DAY???” ~~~ International Interdependence Day, a global tribute to the importance of recognizing our inter-connectedness... It became the Zambian Model UN recommendation at the Model United Nations National General Assembly as brought forward by American International School Lusaka high school student, Merijn Zbynek Cornelis Wijchers, (from The Netherlands) in November, 2001. Sent on to the Model UN files in NYC, it went into storage... Let's bring it back to life and make it happen! It's about time!!!

Do not sign the Super Committee's bill to make cuts to Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid. These are not property of the Congress or Senates to play with as they wish. They are insurance policies that the American people have paid for during their working lives.

Americans are paying the high price of a Congress that is more interested in bipartisan infighting and sabotaging efforts of the President to pass proposals. Everyone of us is affected by their actions. Precious time is being wasted while people are suffering.
