Keep the Maury County YMCA Open! The YMCA in Maury County is scheduled to close on December 31st of this year. I do not understand why your members weren't given this news well before this so we'd have a chance to do one or more fundraisers to help keep this YMCA open. The YMCA is the only source of exercise for both my husband, who is disabled from a car accident, and my son, who has Down Syndrome. The therapy pool there is the only one in a 30-mile radius. This will also greatly effect the large population of disabled and elderly, not to mention those who need it to recover from various injuries. On top of that, the YMCA is a major source of community in our area and its closing would greatly effect the area in more ways than we can count. There's got to be a way for the members to keep the YMCA open - even if a few services have to be canceled temporarily.87 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Debra Staples

Help the homeless familiesThere has been a surge of homeless families for many different reasons ranging from fire to foreclosure. Someone needs to start opening family oriented shelters so families can stay united instead of torn apart. I have always realized this and now I have the tools to ask for help to save families from this ordeal.22 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lilly Case

Companies Cannot Be Held Liable for Giving Away Excess FoodCompanies throughout the U.S.A throw away 40% of the nation's food each day-- hotels, grocery stores, restaurants, etc. pile food into the garbage. Meanwhile, U.S. federal tax dollars in the 2012 fiscal year added up to $74.6 billion in food assistance (aka "food stamps" or "EBT"), while California state taxes paid $6.8 million-- this does not include county provisions-- which vary. The reason businesses aren't legally able to give away excess food (if a restaurant meses up an order or a package gets damaged at a food store) to hungry individuals in need, & that furthermore they lock their dumpsters to prevent "theft", is that they can be held legally accountable if that person gets sick. For this reason, food industry workers (at restaurants, hotels, grocery stores) often reluctantly throw away food (sometimes large amounts) while looking out their business windows only to watch others begging for spare change to eat. Removing this liability from companies his will help take the strain off of churches & charities who give everything they have & still fail to provide nutritious foods, & are often now suffering from "Donor fatigue" themselves. This petition seeks to alleviate & end a blatant injustice.7 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Alexandra Wilson

Calling Out Taking Food From Our Already Hungry Children As Child AbuseWe, the undersigned, do not condone the intense brainwashing by our media and congress to frame the current threat by government to take food away from the one in four American children who already suffer hunger, and the chronic disabling effects of hunger, as a notion that belongs in the domain of Republican-Democrat viewpoints. The threat of increasing hunger in populations who already don’t have enough food to eat, is not one of political viewpoint, but instead belongs in the domain of child abuse. When a parent neglects to feed her children, we do not consider this her ‘viewpoint’; we call the child abuse hotline and get the child into a setting where the child’s basic needs can be met. Were a parent to keep a child so hungry that the child suffered pain, headaches, nausea, and couldn’t concentrate in school, we would all be outraged at the sadistic level of abuse. Our government, knowing almost a quarter of American children are suffering this level hunger, taking away what little food these families have, is an act of child abuse of the most devastating and sinister order. Clearly, funds are not the issue, as we somehow have $50,000 per year per (healthy) inmate (more for those needing medical attention) to imprison individuals who resort to stealing, but somehow are supposed to buy the brainwashing that we don’t have monies to provide $4.50/day for our poorest persons for food stamps. In addition, economists estimate that every dollar of SNAP benefit, adds $1.79 of economic benefit to the community. More than 80% of SNAP households have one or more members employed, with 87% of recipients living in households with children, elderly, or disabled persons. The more children get sick from hunger the more the low-wage earner has to take off from work resulting in job loss. Due to the economic crash, between 2007 & 2011 unemployment increased by 96% & SNAP by 70%. The average time on SNAP is 9 months as families find their way out from beneath the poverty line. We will not participate in condoning cutting programs that feed those suffering hunger as one of political party affiliation, and here join in calling it out as the child abuse (also elder abuse and abuse of the disabled) it is. We demand and here petition that our Senate and House of Representatives immediately stop the abuse and treat the epidemic of hunger in this country caused by the economic recession, as the national emergency it is, and respond as we do with the national emergencies caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, etc., by pouring funds into correcting the situation, including by creating jobs, including by using monies from our Defense/Homeland security coffers. That is, doing whatever it takes to fulfill our obligation as adults, our intrinsic role as guardians of the children, to see to it that our children have food to eat.16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Sandra Eagle

Street Lights in Seminole Woods Blvd.My family lives down Seminole Woods and has noticed the lack of street lights and sidewalks down this road. I have 6 siblings, and 5 of them are younger than me. It is a safety hazard for when the sun goes down and families go on bike rides or play outside that drivers may not see the families or the children outside and could possibly get severely hurt.72 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Kaitlyn Adams

Lane Splitting LegislationCalifornia is the only state that "legally" allows "Lane Splitting" by motorcycles. This practices is endorsed by the CHP as a life saving and traffic congestion saving practice. Utah's roadways are constantly expanding at great costs. Lane splitting would help to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. The guidelines for lane splitting are simple, but effective. Motorcycles can go between cars at a speed no more than 10 mph faster than the flow of traffic, not to exceed 30 mph for the flow of traffic. This will also allow police officers to split lanes, even if they are not in pursuit. ****** THIS BILL IS BEING PUT BEFORE THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE'S COMMITTE FOR A VOTE in the next few days. It is being modeled after the recent endorsement by CHP Motorcop guidelines. http://www.chp.ca.gov/programs/lanesplitguide.html Contact your state Representative. http://le.utah.gov/house2/representatives.jsp House Bill #0281 Motorcycle Amendment Please sign the petition AND contact your House Rep.
