According to SourceWatch, State Farm Insurance is a major supporter of ALEC, the group that came up with "model legislation" adopted by a number of Republican-led state legislatures such as the Stand Your Ground law in Florida, voter ID laws that disenfranchise poor, elderly and minority voters, and the attacks on unions in Wisconsin, Ohio and Indiana. State Farm is different from most of the other members of ALEC because it is not investor-owned. State Farm is a mutual benefit corporation, a kind of financial cooperative, which means that it is owned by its policy-holders, pooling their money to provide insurance services. The money it gives to ALEC rightfully belongs to its policyholder-owners, and State Farm has no right to use it to fund ALEC's right-wing agenda. You do not need to be a State Farm policyholder to sign! If you are, please leave a comment about how long you have been with State Farm and how many policies you have with them.

The article in Maxim magazine about how to "cure" a feminist by turning her into "an actual girl" is highly insulting and promotes sexist actions by encouraging men to pretend they care about women's issues in order to date or objectify a woman.The photos show a "feminist" going from casual clothing to wearing underwear as "an actual girl". This mentality is harmful to both men and women as it continues to express the idea that women exist for the pleasure of men and that real issues that affect women on a daily basis have nothing to do with men. This line of thought creates and sustains an unsafe environment for women and Maxim should immediately address the irresponsibility of printing such an article.

American women should have choices. Of course they should be able to choose to stay at home and raise their families, and hopefully those who have this desire also have the economic means to do so. But American women should also be able to choose, with their doctors, to terminate a pregnancy, legally under our Constitution. American women should be able to choose to take oral contraceptives and have them covered under their insurance. An American woman should be able to choose her life partner and marry him OR her, and receive all the rights and benefits of the federal government. American women should have choices in all areas of their lives.

Women and men should sign this petition, and we should make slogans and t-shirts declaring our right to choose. Instead of trying to take women back 50 years, Congress should be working tirelessly to pass all possible laws to help support a woman's right to choose. The Repubicans have the biggest double standards of all time. They fight tenaciously to , take away a woman's control over her own body, yet fight tenaciously to give total control to gun toters. Out of one side of their mouths they fight for their rights, and out of the other side, they take away someone elses.

ABC has a new "comedy" called "Don't Trust the B____ in Apt 23" about a nasty woman and, incidentally, her nice roommate. Just because you don't say the word doesn't make it any less degrading. You don't call The Sopranos "Italian Mafia A-holes" or reruns of The Cosby Show "Funny but smart N-words". It's not OK to use or suggest the B word either. Women have the right to be unpleasant without being the only group called insulting names because of it. How ironic that the head of ABC is now a woman. We call on ABC to change the title or cancel the show, and to stop with "the B word" already. We know funny. B____ is not remotely funny.

Women are not included in the US Constitution, that's why we needed a separate amendment to vote. Justice Antonin Scallia stated that women aren't covered by the "Equal Protection" clause of the 14th Amendment. Any rights given to women by Congress can be taken away by Congress. We need three more states to ratify the ERA and we can breath easier. It's now or never!

A Sacramento DA has ordered that a 17 year old girl who reported a sexual assault be held in juvenile detention to ensure she testifies in court against her assailant. She is a ward of the state and her bail was set at $50,000. Imprisoning this young woman will not stop rapists but will, instead, deter other victims from coming forward.
