Providence's West End Supports the Community Safety ActDear Neighbor, As you may know, the Community Safety Act goes up for a vote with City Council on June 1st. This ordinance helps keep patrons and community members safer in a number of ways and enjoys overwhelming support from residents on the West Side of Providence and in Federal Hill, including by city council member Bryan Principe, and several endorsements by businesses and community groups on the West Side. A small group of neighbors and committed citizens is asking community members from the West Side and Federal Hill neighborhoods to publicly “sign on” for their support of this important legislation. The names and text of this letter will be delivered to Councilman Principe and the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA) board prior to June 1st. Dear WBNA Board and Councilman Principe, We, the undersigned, would like to publically announce our support of the Community Safety Act (CSA). We do so because we believe: ● The tenants of the CSA work to keep all community members safer within our homes, schools, and businesses. ● The CSA works to improve relationships between community members and the public safety officers charged to protect and serve us. ● The CSA is good for business, in that it allows a vibrant and diverse community of people within our neighborhoods to work and conduct their business here, ultimately keeping us all both safe and thriving economically. ● The CSA works to change biased policing practices and excessive incarceration which undermine our democracy and the economic stability of our communities. Please let this letter serve as a public document that shows the overwhelming support this legislation receives from Providence residents and businesses. We look forward to your continued support of the CSA and your vote to pass the bill on June 1st. Signed,60 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Natalie Tarr

Rep. Denham: Don't Devastate the ValleyCalifornia's 10th District is a diverse, growing district. President Trump's draft budget would devastate our communities and many of us who live here. Our member of Congress, Jeff Denham can help to stop President Trump's dangerous cuts. Some of the proposed cuts are: -Cutting health care for the poor, including $616 billion in cuts to Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program over the next decade. -$22 billion for the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. -$143 billion from student loan access. -Eliminate $23 billion in farm subsidies that help to employ Central Valley residents. -and trillions more in devastating cuts. We need Jeff Denham to oppose this drastic budget and get to work focusing on passing a budget that helps all Americans, especially those most in need in places like the Central Valley.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cindy Reed

Ghost HuntersNew Jersey is a melting pot of catastrophe, the entire state is struggling with drug trafficking, wasteful usage of funds, and a racist organization flying just under the radar. A myriad of issues are slowing the state's progression into the tranquil realm the people wish it to be, so if anything can be done, it will start with this.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Jacob Novak

Massachusetts: Sign on to California Climate ActionAs a young traveler, I've met people from around the world disappointed by the American drop-off in climate action leadership. But with its own progressive steps, California continues to hold the torch of inspiration. Let us fan those flames, so that America may remain a beacon of light for humanity.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Gregory Nasif

Define Dyslexia in Education LawMy son is one of hundreds of thousands of students who was left unable to read in our public school system. Hours of time were spent working with school districts; advocating for training teachers in structured literacy approaches - without this, my son would not have learned how to read. Ensure all children learn how to read in our state public schools - sign this petition for the first step. Hundreds and thousands of children across NYS and nationally go through school without learning how to read. It is a social injustice and is completely preventable. http://www.dyslexiaonlongislandny.org193 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Helen Roussel

Reject Trump's Education BudgetTrump’s education budget hurts students, borrowers and their families, here's how: ✖︎ ENDS the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program designed to promote the careers that benefit our communities most. ✖︎ CUTS $200 billion from student aid programs over the next decade. ✖︎ ELIMINATES subsidized loans that keep interest costs down. ✖︎ REPLACES all income-driven repayment programs with a new program, created by Trump, that significantly increases costs for graduate students. The Trump-DeVos budget is the final nail in the coffin for current, former and future students. Since Trump appointed Betsy DeVos to lead the Education Department, the two billionaires have unleashed a destructive student loan agenda that harms families across the country.63,791 of 75,000 SignaturesCreated by StudentDebtCrisis.org

Put a Stop To Trump's BudgetI have had to use Disability insurance for several years in my life when a failed back surgery made it impossible for me to work. I have several friends who are disabled - who would LOVE to be working - but can't because of physical reasons. Medicaid is how most long-term Nursing Home care is paid for by Americans. Since the average cost is $5,000.00 a month, unless you are very wealthy, most people can not afford such an expense. The fact that the health care bill proposed by the Republicans comes with a tax break for the wealthy is a slap in the face. The taxpayers in our country pay for every member of Congress to have excellent, free health care, with no pre-existing condition clause, and no limit on catastrophic illnesses! We already have enough nuclear weapons to blow the entire earth into oblivion, and the idea of building more is totally insane. We have been warned about the Military-Industrial-Complex and Obama had begun to get us away from it, but Trump has put us back on track for an enormous military, that, instead of making us safer, will intimidate our enemies. I believe the Democrats and the American people need to fight against this budget. Please sign this petition.6 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carol Burger

Stop Trump's Starvation Budget!Trump's budget has a proposal to cut Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP (aka food stamps) by $191 billion over 10 years. It is import to know who this impacts: Over 85 percent of all SNAP benefits go to households that include children, seniors, or those with disabilities, while 15 percent of all SNAP households are elderly individuals who live alone. If that wasn't bad enough, the budget also works to dis-incentivize stores from even *accepting* SNAP, by proposing new fees that would charge retailers a fee for participating in SNAP. This is a dangerous idea which will lead to fewer stores accepting SNAP, making it even harder for Americans who've fallen on tough times to get food. Town of Islip to commit to 100% renewable electricity by 2030We, the undersigned residents of the Islip Township, appeal to the Islip Town Board to fulfill its commitment to the local community in protecting our economic and environmental viability by not only complying with Governor Cuomo’s Clean Energy Standard, but exceeding its expectations. We call upon the Islip Town Board to set an official goal for being powered by 100% renewable electricity by the year 2030. We request this be done in order to reduce energy costs, encourage job growth, preserve local ecosystems, slow the rise of global temperatures that cause climate change and we ask that the Islip Town Board also take into account the environmental impact of all of its decisions in any policy made, and consider the example that they set for both other townships and the upcoming generations.61 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Chloe Gaconnier
