Blumenfeld Development Group (BDG) and Forest City Ratner are now proposing an additional 1.1 million square feet of residential buildings above East River Plaza in East Harlem. The neighborhood opposes this mega planned urban development because it is offensive and out of scale, requiring numerous variances that will truly make this an “out of context” project.

I have worked hard for decades to support my family of five, marking 27 years in operations at a Sacramento school district. After my two grown sons lost their jobs during the recession, they moved back home. And with my daughter in college, the household budget was stretched very thin. My family had to decide which bills were critical to pay to make it through each month. This meant that we could no longer afford Internet at home, as the $60 a month Comcast Internet bill became too large for my family to manage. I felt badly because my sons had to go to library to get online to look for work and my daughter often had to stay late at school to use the computer lab to finish her homework. There are millions of hard-working people who, like myself, cannot afford market-rate Internet at home. Comcast can be a leader in helping to make Internet affordable for millions of low-wage earners in the United States. People with disabilities, seniors, non-English speakers, and people with incomes near the poverty line have particular hardship paying for Internet service. My family is not eligible for the low-cost Comcast Internet Essentials because the company only offers the discount to low-income families with K-12 students on the federal free or reduced lunch program. Now is the time to stand up to Comcast and demand affordable Internet for all at home! Join me! Tell the FCC to expand Comcast Internet Essentials to all low-income households as a requirement of the merger with Time Warner Cable. We started this petition to inform the public that public school funding has been reduced over the past 5 years. Schools across NYS have cut thousands of teachers and hundreds of courses. Many students are forced to sit in study halls instead of having electives that encourage diversity and college preparation. Reading programs have been cut, sports programs have been dissolved and the class of 2015 will have far less than the class of 2009. Please join us to restore the lost funds for our students.

Dr. Vivek Murthy was nominated for the position of Surgeon General a year ago. He is eminently qualified for the position and endorsed by former Surgeon Generals and every medical organization. But NRA has opposed the nomination because of his comment on how gun violence has become a health issue. NRA has sent a letter to every senator indicating that it will score the vote, and Senator Harry Reid has refused to bring the nomination for vote out of fear of NRA, and the whole Indian-American community is furious with the situation. Now there are only two weeks left - this is urgent.

Judge James Kilbane called Brown during sentencing "a cold, calculating, violent murderer who is completely devoid of truth, moral integrity or love for anyone but himself, whom I hope never sees the light of day." To date, Brown has never taken responsibility for his crime, never shown an ounce of remorse, or apologized to Robyn's family. The safety and welfare of Robyn's family and friends as well as the general public will be threatened should Brown be released, based on the horrendous nature of his crime. Parole must be denied.

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) issued a safety alert on Jan. 2, 2014, regarding the volatility of Bakken crude oil. According to PHMSA data, pipeline operators reported 1,880 crude oil pipeline incidents nationwide between 2003 and 2013 resulting in over 44,265,438 gallons of oil being spilled, fowling groundwater, surface water bodies, farmland and woodland, and resulting in over $2.5 billion in property damage. The majority of these spills were the result of corrosion, equipment failure, incorrect operation or material and weld failures. Only 5% of all cases were spills detected by leak detection equipment. This pipeline will not replace rail and barge transport of crude oil in New York. Instead, it will increase the flow of crude oil in the State to refineries in New Jersey for production and export of refined petroleum products. Supporting long-term investment in fossil fuel infrastructure directly conflicts with New York State’s goal of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 to reduce the threat of the climate crisis to present and future generations. The pipeline threatens the public interest of the citizens of New York, it's land and water resources including the Hudson River - which the Mid-Hudson Regional Economic Council has identified as vital to regional economic development and prosperity, and should be strongly rejected.

As a recreational fisherman, I depend on the USCG for assistance when needed. To triple the response time, especially for a medical emergency can and will cause the loss of life.

Nobody deserves to live on a chain. Right now there are many animals alive but not living, outside but not playing, animals who know sunlight but not warmth. Isolated in backyards, in the elements, attacks from animals and people, and perhaps worst of all solitary confinement. There needs to be stricter regulations to keep animals safe.
