what happened to the right to an educationOur son Hunter, has turned his life around and wants to continue going to school and the board of Elizabethtown area school district will not allow him to attend because of a past expulsion. They didn't take the time to see what he has accomplished since the incident and say they are not obligated to help due to his age. Anyone who knows the man that he has become can attest to the fact that he deserves the chance to continue his education...16 of 100 SignaturesCreated by alesha buller

Stop All Political Ads!!Voter turnout is pathetic in this country. I am concerned that the political ads increase voter apathy and make the public less inclined to have their voice heard in the political process. No matter how you lean politically, the ads are awful and don't further our democracy. Banning political ads and instead airing PSA's of this nature will increase participation and lead to greater trust in the political process.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Michelle Lazar

Stop Unfair Implementation of School Zone Speed CamerasWe, the undersigned, wish to express our concern regarding the recently enacted policy of photo-video enforcement of speed limits in Nassau County school zones. While we appreciate the intention to increase safety, we question the fairness of the way in which this policy has been implemented. Engineering and education should always precede enforcement. Specifically, there has been a sudden computerized enforcement of school zone speed limits that have rarely, if ever, been enforced before. This has resulted in multiple, though unintentional and unknowing, violations and huge fines. This does not constitute fairness or due process. In the interest of compassion, a warning would be more appropriate for first-time offenders, as well as for those who may have committed multiple violations in a very short period, but were informed of the first one and subsequent ones only weeks later. We agree with Judy Jacobs, who has called for the County Executive to "stop the program cold, now, and reassess how to continue in a fair and equitable way." We, therefore, petition the Legislature for a moratorium, and the courts for leniency, in the administration of fines and penalties assessed under this new policy, until a fair and compassionate system can be put into operation.657 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Leonard J. Prison Progression PetitionI have seen lives destroyed by just a few months in prison. Going to prison in America is just going into a hornets nest. People are forced to become Racist , Predators , and overly aggressive humans to survive prison. It is hard to adjust back to society when you have lived under the harsh circumstances of the American prison system.122 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Emmanuel Johnson

Woman's voice silenced by gun laws!Anita Sarkeesian, the feminist cultural critic who has become a lightning rod for challenging the troubling way women are portrayed and treated in videogames, was scheduled to speak about her work at Utah State University in Logan. A few days before her scheduled appearance, school administrators received threats of a mass shooting if they didn't cancel the event. Sarkeesian, who is used to such threats, planned to go ahead with her appearance…until university officials informed her that audience members would be permitted to bring guns into the auditorium under Utah’s campus gun laws which prohibit colleges from taking away concealed weapons from valid permit holders. Utah is the only state in the country with such a law.[1] The school not only declined to install metal detectors, it also would not conduct pat downs at the door. [2] "It's sort of mindboggling to me that they couldn't take efforts to make sure there were no guns in an auditorium that was threatened with guns and a mass shooting," Sarkeesian told The Associated Press. "I don't understand how they could be so cut and dry about it." [3] Sarkeesian’s right to speak up about violence against women has been violated. She’s been silenced by Utah’s campus gun laws that prevent reasonable precautions for securing her safety and the safety of college-age kids. Sign on to our petition now! Tell Sen. James Inhofe: Listen to the Pentagon on Climate ChangeThe Pentagon says climate change is an immediate national security threat, yet key political leaders refuse to accept this reality – including Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK). It's bad enough that Sen. Inhofe calls global warming "a hoax" even though scientific consensus exists. But for the Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services Committee to blatantly disregard such dire warnings from military leaders shows how deep Sen. Inhofe's denial runs. Americans hate this type of ideological fervor. If enough of us speak out, Sen. Inhofe will see how out of step he is with the mainstream when it comes to climate change. Tell eBay: Dump ALECDespite branding itself as a "green" leader, eBay remains part of a climate denial group that argues global warming is "possibly beneficial." It doesn't make sense, especially after Google, Facebook, and Yahoo! just dumped the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) for "literally lying" about climate change. Let eBay's CEO know "green" leaders don't fund and associate with climate change denial. Off label use of CytotecThe Tatia M. Oden French Memorial Foundation is petitioning the FDA because of adverse events associated with the use of the drug Cytotec, (Misoprostol) for cervical ripening and labor induction. When used to induce labor, Cytotec has been known to cause uterine rupture, AFE and death of the mother and or death of the child. Tatia Malika Oden French and her daughter, Zorah, are only two of the people who would be alive today had the FDA made the Searle (original manufacturer) announcement available to consumers via its website. They both died because of the amniotic fluid embolism that Tatia experienced, shortly after being administered her second dose of Cytotec on December 27, 2001. That is a fact. If Tatia’s health care provider, an obstetrician, had informed her of the manufacturers warning letter that the doctor’s office received from G.D. Searle, she would never have taken the drug. But her obstetrician chose not to share this information with her. The August 23, 2000, warning letter from the original manufacturer took an even stronger step and issued a statement sent to 200,000 OBGYN’s throughout the U.S. We quote from this statement: “Serious adverse events reported following off-label use of Cytotec in pregnant women include maternal or fetal death, uterine hyper-stimulation, rupture or perforation requiring uterine surgical repair, hysterectomy or salpingo-oophorectomy, amniotic fluid embolism, severe vaginal bleeding, retained placenta, shock, fetal bradycardia and pelvic pain.” We therefore specifically request the FDA to create a medicine guide, that states these adverse affects of Misoprostol when used off label for labor induction. If the manufacturer itself warns of death as a possibility for both mother and child, the FDA should make this known. The FDA, has a duty to publish, at the very least, all of the possible adverse events that have been reported, including those published by the original manufacturer when it is bought by a larger company. By doing this hundreds of mothers and babies lives would be saved.4,113 of 5,000 SignaturesCreated by Maddy Oden

It is time for police reform nationwide! Two Black fathers have been shot dead for nothing. Keith Lamont Scott of Charlotte, North Carolina, had been waiting in his car for his son to arrive home from school, and Terence Crutcher, of Tulsa, Oklahoma had been waiting at the side of the road after his truck stalled. Both men are now dead, wrongfully gunned down by police. Both are Black men. Families should never have to fear that our loved ones could come to harm at the hands of those charged with protecting them. Keith Lamont Scott and Terence Crutcher join a long and unending line of African American and Latino youth and community members killed by police, including: -- Philando Castile of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, who was shot and killed by police during a minor traffic stop because of a broken taillight. -- Alton Sterling, who was selling CDs when police tackled him to the ground and shot several times at close range. -- Eric Garner, husband and father, who was choked to death in New York. -- John Crawford, who was shot to death when he picked up a toy gun that was for sale in an Ohio Walmart. -- Seventeen-year-old unarmed Jesús Huerta was shot to death while handcuffed in the back of a police car. -- Eighteen-year-old unarmed Ramarley Graham who was shot to death in Bronx, NY -- Sandra Bland, a 28-year-old black woman who was found hanged in a jail cell in Waller County, Texas. The horror of losing family members to senseless, racially motivated police violence is a daily threat in the lives of Black and brown people in America. Studies show that, even though White Americans outnumber Black Americans fivefold, Black people are three times more likely than White people to be killed when they encounter the police in the US, [1] and Black teenagers are far likelier to be killed by police than White teenagers. [2] Law enforcement currently kills Black Americans at nearly the same rate as Jim-Crow-era lynchings. [3] Mothers, fathers, and other family members demand change that protects our young people from reckless policing. Families across America urge the federal government to take definitive and immediate action, including but not limited to the following reforms: • A fully-resourced and rigorous civil rights and criminal investigation by the DOJ into discriminatory policing, excessive force, and death or injury by police in every state in the country; • A comprehensive, streamlined, public national-level database of police shootings; excessive force, misconduct complaints, traffic and pedestrian stops, and arrests, broken down by race and other demographic data, with key privacy protections, the exclusion of personally identifying factors and information, and deportation immunity for civilians; • Mandating of Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST) in every state and inter-state coordination between all POSTs; • An executive order that creates a strong and enforceable prohibition on police brutality and discriminatory policing based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, immigration status, disability, and housing status; • Increased funding for the DOJ's Office for Civil Rights to ensure additional, accessible state-level responders for police and other civil rights violations Divestment of federal anti-drug grants and federal funding for police departments that demonstrate abuse of power and massive reinvestment in community controlled and based policing practices; • Support for the passage of the End Racial Profiling Act (ERPA); • Streamlined national use of force matrix and mandating that state and local police have clear and streamlined matrices; and • Strict limits on asset seizure without due process and the transfer of any military equipment to local law enforcement under the 1033 program, guidelines that ensure that the equipment is not used on non-violent protesters, and an end to the requirement that such military weaponry is used within a year. [1] Mike Brown’s shooting and Jim Crow lynchings have too much in common. It’s time for America to own up, The Guardian, August 25, 2014. The New Community Workforce in Newark is Failing Students! We are a collective of nursing students attending New Community Workforce in Newark. We've attended this program for over two years and done well in all of our classes until now. But now that we're ready to graduate, a majority of us were given failing grades on our final exams. We were told that 100% of our class failed the obstetrics and psychiatry exams. We were also told that 60% of us failed our pediatrics exam - which is shocking because this was a take home exam. But what's worse, we've been denied access to our individual test results so we don't know which answers we got wrong or right. Our objective is to review our final exams before we take them again on October 20th. But this impossible because New Community refuses to give them back to us. We have all studied hard for these final exams - so how is it that the majority of us failed? We believe something is wrong! Please sign our petition and demand that CEO Richard Rohrman provide each of us with our original exams. We also want New Community to create a transparent process for current and future students so we are better prepared to achieve success in our chosen fields!172 of 200 SignaturesCreated by NC Nursing Students United
