UN envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura has warned that 12,000 or so civilians still in or near Kobane, including 700 mainly elderly people in Kobane's center, "will most likely be massacred" by ISIS if the town falls to ISIS jihadists. De Mistura called on Turkey "to support the deterrent actions of the coalition through whatever means from their own territory," and appealed to Turkey to "allow the flow of volunteers at least, and their equipment to be able to enter the city to contribute to a self-defense operation." Urge President Obama and Members of Congress to do everything in their power to pressure Turkey to stop the massacre of Syrian Kurdish civilians in Kobane by signing our petition.

Philadelphia's School Reform Commission cancelled its teachers' contract with the Philadelphia Federation of Teachers, with no warning, in a unanimous vote cast on Monday. I thought back to the time last April when I got the call: my 6 year-old daughter was having an asthma attack. “Take her to the nurse!” I told them, “the nurse has her inhaler.” “There is no nurse today, and it’s locked in her office. Only she has the key.” “WHY IS THERE NO NURSE?” “We don’t have a nurse on Tuesdays or Thursdays.” The reason there are no nurses in my daughter’s school two days a week is because of the School Reform Commission, run by Tom Corbett, that has taken away funds from nurses, libraries, and other activities that our children need and deserve. The teachers shouldn't have to pay for his bad deeds. We should be taxing frackers instead of fracking with teachers. We need to get the SRC out and take back control of Philly’s schools for our community.

By prioritizing the resource needs of men's athletic teams on campus, UC Berkeley is discriminating against the women athletes who are entitled to equal opportunities to compete in campus sports.

I have 2 young kids and when my 7 years old daughter asked what was that scary image on the billboard, that's when I realized that our children are being subjected to images that are not appropriate for their age. This billboard was an advertisement for Halloween; it was very graphic and scary.

The youth of Philadelphia are outraged as they continue to struggle for a fully funded quality education. This includes hearing the voices of students who are hurt most by these systematic genocidal policies imposed on them. The youth leaders of Youth United for Change recognize that budget cuts to full time nurses have left two students to die on the Philadelphia School District's time. We urge that folks stand up for what's best for the well-being of young people by returning local control of our school board to the education stakeholders of Philadelphia who care. We stand in solidarity with our teacher allies in reinstating the PFT contract. For too long, Philadelphia has not made decisions on education policies with the best intent in mind for students of color in our city. This has also been a district that has faced privatization attacks from right-wing school reformist experiments. We do not share this struggle alone as urban districts across the nation are under attack and it is time that this government takes ownership of the continuous oppression of youth of color at the local, state, and federal levels.

Millions of children risk losing access to healthcare coverage next year if Congress fails to extend funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). CHIP covers millions and it's helped decrease the number of uninsured children by half since it passed with bipartisan support in 1997. Families have enough to worry about. The health security of their kids shouldn't be one of them. Tell Congress to do the right thing and extend funding for CHIP immediately.

Kohl's online credit card payment system failed to record my $35 payment in January of this year. I resubmitted after I learned of the error but I recently found out they reported me 30 days late to the credit agency and my credit score fell 100 points, preventing me from refinancing my mortgage. They refuse to acknowledge/correct the error.

The Wal-Mart near my house, store number 1129, has complete disregard for life. The fish that they sell there are constantly being neglected, to the point of death. I have witnessed, on several occasions throughout a few months, fish that have not been fed, fish that are swimming in more filth than water and fish that even do not have enough water to swim around in. They simply lie there, slowly dying. I have witnessed dead fish sit there for weeks, rotting. This store is obviously not equipped in taking care of fish, one of the easiest pets to take care of. They should not be allowed to sell them, for they are not selling fish. They are simply hoarding victims.

With the disproportionately low numbers of women in office, we must come together as a community and speak out against blatant sexism. Let’s make sure Randy Ross understands the obstacles women like Tiffany Moore Russell face when running for office. He must be held accountable for his sexist remarks. Join us in demanding a public apology from Randy Ross. We want to be sure he truly understands the hardships women face when running and serving in office. We don’t just want an apology from Randy; that doesn’t solve the problem. What we need from Randy is a true understanding of what Tiffany Moore Russell and other women are going through. We want Randy to hold a public event explaining what women have to go through and why they should get paid leave; why we need Congress to pass the family act now! It’s hard enough to get qualified women to believe they are qualified and run for office without sexist remarks or fear of sexism scaring them off. We need to teach Randy and Central Florida a lesson; that you can’t just say anything and get away with it scot-free. We will hold you accountable for your words. Help us hold Randy accountable and demand that he hold an event on paid family leave.

The low speed limit on Ridge Rd. makes the behavior of the majority unlawful and often causes antagonism towards enforcement. While enforcement of this unrealistic speed limit does produce easy revenue for the sheriff's office, it creates a bad image of the community.
