Save 920 Missouri Street, Lawrence, KSThe lovely century-old home located at 920 Missouri Street is slated for demolition on October 19. The Oread Neighborhood is losing its architectural gems rapidly, and this home is one of the few remaining on the 900 block of Missouri. The new owners (Joe and Gina Keating) intend to tear it down and build a duplex with 8 bedrooms for rent. Please sign below if would like to help prevent the demolition of this home and preserve the neighborhood. Historic update: Mattie Crumrine, Professor of French, lived at 920 Missouri while teaching at KU for 43 years. She walked up the hill as so many of us do every day to work on campus because she saw no need for a car. Her sister Anne lived on Missouri with her most of those 43 years.515 of 600 SignaturesCreated by Melissa Meyer

Demand a full apology for and retraction of inflammatory remarks made by Mr. Yusuf ShabazzOur community deserves and demands full accountability from our elected representatives. Mr. Shabazz's comments were unethical and inflammatory and could lead to the direct harm of a law-abiding citizen. His remarks also send the wrong message to our youth and do nothing to assuage the community's pain over the shooting.2,321 of 3,000 SignaturesCreated by Melissa McCoy

NO to Fluoride in San Jose Water! As a resident of the City of San Jose, the heart of Silicon Valley, I believe there is NO benefit to having fluoride in our drinking water. Residents of this great city are not at all informed and many are horrified that this has not been made more public for a proper public response. At the very least, the ethical basis for exposing a whole population to a "therapeutic agent" without informed consent must be called into question. Santa Clara Valley Water District recently agreed to go ahead with fluoridation beginning this December: http://www.sanjoseinside.com/2016/10/25/south-bay-activists-threaten-to-sue-over-water-fluoridation/ "Seven decades since American cities began fluoridating public water supplies to prevent tooth decay, the South Bay remains something of a holdout. It’s the largest metropolitan region in the nation to not fluoridate its water. That’s about to change, but not without some pushback. Activists have threatened to sue the Santa Clara Valley Water District to prevent it from adding the mineral, which it planned to start doing this December." PER SCVWD: "Residents who have other dental or health related questions or concerns about fluoride should call 1-844-435-8420. For questions on drinking water safety, members of the public are encouraged to contact Drinking Water Toxicologist Bruce A. Macler, Ph.D., of the U.S. EPA, Region 9, at 415-972-3569. Comments or questions directed to Santa Clara Valley Water District can be submitted through our Access Valley Water system or by calling 408-630-2020."134 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Patricia Juarez

Save Tucson's cats -- Don't let city kill new community cat program!Just a month ago, Pima County launched a progressive lifesaving program to save Tucson's homeless cats by spaying and neutering instead of euthanizing them. But now, due to a budget dispute between Pima County and the City of Tucson, the entire program is at risk -- with more shelter deaths likely as a result. You can help us turn this around by letting Tucson's elected officials know you won’t stand for it! Pima County's community cat program, approved unanimously by the Board of Supervisors just last month, has attracted $900,000 in private funding and is a model of how to humanely and effectively reduce homeless cat populations. By contrast, the cost of the "traditional" approach to managing community cats -- euthanizing them by the thousands, and with no end in sight -- falls entirely on taxpayers and has proven to be both ineffective and publicly unpalatable. In less than a month, this program has lowered cat euthanasia at Pima Animal Care Center by more than 65 percent and should be the pride of city leaders, not a political football. Please sign this petition today and take a moment to reach out to Tucson's elected officials and let them know this is the kind of progressive, lifesaving program we want for our city! Julie Jennings Patterson P.S. You can make even MORE of an impact by personally emailing your council member and the Mayor. Emails for the Mayor and Council: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Interim City Manager Martha Durkin's: [email protected] City Clerk: [email protected] (becomes public record) Additional points about Trap Neuter Return: • It is the only proven effective long term solution shown to reduce and stabilize populations by controlling reproduction and eliminating the vacuum effect (where new animals move in to territories others were removed from). • It saves lives by ending the cycle of shelter killing while dramatically reducing the number of cats and kittens that enter each year. • Is less costly than sheltering and/or extermination • Allows more resources for animals already in shelters • Dramatically reduces or eliminates nuisance behaviors • Improves both feline and public health • Is humane, fosters compassion • It helps the mental health of county employees who are in the position of needlessly taking the life of healthy cats.926 of 1,000 SignaturesCreated by Julie Jennings Patterson

Recycle 'DatThe City of New Orleans generated approximately 302, 7261 tons of solid waste in 2013. This amount does not include the amount of solid waste during Mardis Gras alone, which is estimated to be as high as 8,000 tons.(2) Much of the waste generated annually and during Mardis Gras includes recyclable materials including glass, aluminum and cardboard containers . However, due to the limited free recycling program currently in place, too much of these recyclable materials ends up in landfills. Currently, only residential developments with four units or less and some small businesses are eligible to participate in the City’s free curbside recycling program.(3) Restaurants, Hotels and Bars as well as many commercial businesses are not eligible for participation.(3) During the 2010 Mayoral election, recycling was one of the top campaign issues. While measures have been taken since then, these measures do not go far enough and it’s costing the City environmentally and economically. For instance, due to the low rate of recycling, savings from landfill tipping fees are minimal -- approximately $150,000 per year. However, if recycling rates approached those of San Francisco, the annual savings on tipping fees would reach into the millions. Therefore, we the undersigned beseech the City Council to expand the City’s free curbside recycling program immediately. We urge the Council to increase eligibility of the program to include larger residential developments, restaurants, hotels and bars. And finally, we call on the Council to implement a special recycling program for the 12-day Mardis Gras celebration. New Orleans is a city of many great traditions; you can add a new tradition of sustainability and stewardship by acting now. Thank You 1. Based on EPA Solid Waste Generation Rate of 4.38 lbs/person/day: http://www.epa.gov/epawaste/nonhaz/municipal/index.htm and an estimated 2013 population in New Orleans of 378,715 from the United States Buerau of the Census: http://factfinder2.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/community_facts.xhtml 2. Tell the North Carolina Board of Elections to Investigate Americans for ProsperityA few days ago, the Koch money-backed advocacy group, Americans For Prosperity (AFP) mailed out incorrect voter registration information to hundreds of citizens in North Carolina. Despite hundreds of complaints from North Carolina voters who received misleading official-looking voter registration forms, the North Carolina State Board of Elections has not yet investigated this attempt at voter suppression. According to the board's public information officer, misinformation about voter registration can be a felony if it is intentionally misleading and is proven to suppress voters. These forms (from the conservative group Americans for Prosperity) misled voters about the deadline for registration and the address to which the forms should be mailed, both of which could result in people thinking they had registered to vote when they had not. Please sign this petition to tell the North Carolina State Board of Elections to investigate this mailing.3,615 of 4,000 SignaturesCreated by Blake Mizelle
