• Approve the Hā'ena Community Based Subsistence Fishing Area Rules
A public hearing has been scheduled before the Division of Aquatic Resources on October 3, 2014, regarding the approval of rules for the Hā'ena Community Based Subsistence Fishing Area. The Hā'ena Rules propose to prohibit the taking of aquatic life for commercial purposes and to prohibit commercial activities disruptive to the natural environment. A copy of the proposed rules can be found at http://dlnr.hawaii.gov/dar/files/2014/05/Haena_13-60.8dr.pdf.

  • Help immigrants earn their legal status back
My husband committed a crime 25 years ago when he was 17, and he served his sentence, but he was deported upon release using a law passed after his conviction. His legal status was removed with no hope of ever being able to fix it. He is 42 now, and has felt guilt and shame over his past errors for many, many years. He has tried to work legally on correcting his situation but there are no legal remedies to assist him in earning a second chance. Simply because he returned to the US to be close to his loved ones, and especially his children, he has had to serve more time in prison. All of his friends are here, his family, his children, and his wife. He has no-one in Mexico and would be separated from all those he loves. He grew up here and considers this home, however, he has lost all hope of ever being able to earn his way back. The law has its uses, but punishing people for life who are trying to better themselves and burdening families who are trying to do things the legal and correct way to overcome past errors should not be the end result. Repeal without replacement the following law because it is having far more negative consequences than were originally envisioned: United States Sentencing Commission, Guidelines Manual § 4A1.2, comment. (n.10) (convictions set aside or pardoned are still counted if not based on innocence or error of law); United States v. Hayden, 255 F.3d 768, 772, 774 (9th Cir. 2001) (California "expungment" under 1203.4 not effective for criminal history under USSG). If we cannot repeal the law above, then at least reverse changes to U.S. immigration law enacted in 1996 that revoked the discretion of immigration judges to consider the harm that might be caused to a U.S.-citizen child by the removal of his or her parent. The result is needlessly excessive and harmful to the families involved who are trying to legally overcome these obstacles. There should be a pathway for people in this situation who have learned from their mistakes to allow them to earn forgiveness and get their legal status back. This is a huge nationwide problem with tens of thousands of families being torn apart each year and growing. We need a solution. Please sign this petition to support a way to help the hundreds of thousands of broken families effected so we can reunite families, and make positive improvement in the broken immigration system.

  • Time to Legalize Marijuana and Lower the Drinking Age
Marijuana is only about as dangerous as alcohol; both can be bad (for different reasons) in excess, but both can also be used safely if one does so occasionally. Also, minors can not vote, and voting age adults should be treated as exactly that: Voting age adults. Not only do voting and military service require if anything more maturity than alcohol, casino gambling, and marijuana, but also, so do all contracts one may sign without parental co-signatures, and likewise applying for rifle permits and completing criminal background checks for volunteer organizations and employment.

  • We Need to Talk About Anaheim
Last year, 1,000 workers like me were laid off from Angels Stadium when a new company took over the food and beverage operations. We all had to reapply for our jobs with no guarantee of getting them back. The City of Anaheim owns Angels Stadium. The City Council could have passed one simple law to protect us from losing our jobs at venues the City already owns, but they didn't. For years people like us have been underdogs because the rules haven’t been fair. Now we have the chance to make better rules. With Measure L we can elect a City Council that listens to things we care about. Please sign the petition to show your support for Measure L -- Yes on Districts in Anaheim. Do it for our jobs, our union, and our future.

  • No more RPP in Hampden
Residential Permit Parking can not solve Hampden's parking issues. Residential parking forces residents to pay for area parking permits without guaranteeing any actual parking for those permit holders. It simultaneously takes the right to park on publicly owned and maintained streets away from other neighbors, creating discrimination and division within the neighborhood.

  • Keep the DEA out of PCP Doctor's Protocol for New Patients
Since the DEA got involved in healthcare, I was "fired" from my PCP because they no longer wanted to treat me, pain or no pain. A group of doctors in my town of Grand Junction, CO., had been arrested for abusing the prescribing protocols, and they were a cash-only enterprise. Since that happened, no doctor in town will touch a chronic pain patient with a 10-foot pole. I have not been able to re-establish another PCP for going on 2 years now... to say nothing of getting proper treatment for my health issues. I have been told to "apply" online for new doctors, but I get denied because I have been treated for pain in the past--it doesn't even have to be going on presently. Just recently, I had to go to the hospital twice for a severe kidney infection because my complaint and symptoms were rushed by the emergency staff the first time around and sent home. The chronic pain I have stems from a violent attack I sustained in 2008, where I was hurled down 2nd floor-high metal steps, and then raped and left for dead. I did not ask for this pain that has changed my life forever, nor am I a junkie. I just need a physician that gives a damn and will treat me with dignity and without prejudice. Please sign the petition asking congress to amend the DEA control over who doctors can admit as patients so that ALL can be treated fairly.

  • Demand fairer workplace policies!
We’re a community of women and men sticking up for the idea that in America, you shouldn’t have to choose between being there for family and bringing home a paycheck. If politicians want to talk “family values,” it’s time they start valuing families. That means recognizing that Americans need paid time off for illness or caring for family, affordable childcare, and a living wage. Election Day is right around the corner, so there’s no better time to send a message to candidates that if they want our vote, they need to show they’ll fight for ALL of us. Let's show just how many of us believe that we deserve not just a decent living, but also a decent life. Make your voice heard -- add your name to demand fairer workplace policies so that all of us can make it work.

  • IL Senators: Vote NO on S. 2496
In the past decade, protections for waters of the United States have been stripped away by the Supreme Court. EPA's rule will restore Clean Water Act protections that have been lost for 55% of Illinois waterways. Clean water is necessary for public health, recreation, business, and for our children's futures.
