We believe that before a death sentence is carried out by the Brooklyn Public Library on the Brooklyn Heights / Business Branch that it be acknowledged on the Brooklyn Public Library website who built the building that is sentenced to death.

We as concerned parents, community members, and tax-payers in Southampton Union Free School District and Tuckahoe Common School District are very concerned about the approved Extended Learning Time Grant Program. This program would mandate, without any parental in-put or opt-out availability, that our children remain in school for an additional 103 minutes/day in the Intermediate School and an additional 108 minutes/day in the Elementary School. This amount of time, along with the proposed daily calendars, puts unreasonable demands upon our children (physically, mentally and emotionally) and robs the family unit of quality family time. This program would negatively affect community based businesses that cater to children and families and infringe on time that would be used for after school activities, including sports, music, and religious education. The massive amount of private student data that will be collected and put in the hands of third-party companies without specific parental consent is worrisome and unnecessary. Refuse the Grant!!!

Our goal is to organize our employees, concerned citizens and organizations to rally together, letting the post office know that the Pee Dee region needs a strongmail service, like we’ve had for hundreds of years. We also want to let them know that putting up Postal Contract Units in stores with employees with no previous postal service training and no background checks—unlike our USPS employees—is unacceptable. This is about the security and the timely delivery of our mail.

Atlantic County has one of the highest median property taxes in the U.S., and is ranked 42nd of the 3143 counties in order of median property taxes. Tax increase amounts to 47 cents per $100. This has to stop and is only going to be stopped when we put our voices together so we can be heard. Please sign our petition to stop this tax increase!

Today’s crisis in Iraq has its origins in the Bush administration's disastrous decision to launch a war of choice in 2003. As we continue to live with the consequences of those mistakes, we must recognize the hard reality that lasting and sustainable peace in Iraq can only be achieved with an Iraqi-led political solution. As President Obama has said, there is no viable military solution to this crisis. That is why the recent bombing airstrikes launched in Iraq by U.S. military forces -- and the calls by some in Congress to escalate further -- are troubling. The risks of mission creep, unintended consequences, and incremental escalation are just too high -- and after more than a decade of conflict, America cannot afford another Iraq war. In June, the House passed a bill -- with overwhelming bipartisan support -- that sends a strong message to the president to seek congressional authorization for further military action in Iraq. Congress must demand answers and engage the American people in a debate. This is the time to ask the hard questions and get the answers -- before any further U.S. commitments to taking military action in Iraq. The American people look forward to hearing answers to the difficult but necessary questions.

Independent voters who place loyalty to our nation above loyalty to a political party should have an equal opportunity to participate in our democratic republic.

Corporations in the U.S. enjoy many a huge number of benefits and protections by being here from the safety provided by our military to quality roads that allow them to easily transport their products to a consumer system to purchase those products to an educated labor force. It is not fair for them to avoid paying for some share of the costs of all these (and many more) benefits. We have all been affected by this skyrocketing trend as the middle class share of the tax burden continues to grow and the middle class to shrink. This is a crime against our nation.

Teachers teaching core subjects should be required to have Bachelor's degrees. As a parent of a child in California public schools, I join other parents and teachers concerned that: Lowering teaching standards compromises quality programs for students; This sets a dangerous precedent to de-professionalize teaching by allowing substitutes by non-professional teachers; The Commission has created confusion and has compromised the safety and education of students by authorizing unqualified personnel to teach core academic subject areas; These actions fly in the face of the California legislature's requirement of a Bachelor's degree to teach academic subjects.
