• Ban Plastic Bags in Eastchester, NY
We are all responsible for helping the environment. Every year Americans alone use 100 billion plastic grocery bags and only 15% are recycled. Many of these bags end up killing aquatic animals and filling up landfills where toxins then seep into ground water or water streams. Eastchester should join towns like Larchmont, Rye and Mamaroneck and ban the retail use of plastic bags.

  • Minnesota Supreme Court: Review Dykhoff v. Xcel Energy verdict
Largely on the basis of Dykhoff (December 2013), the Work Comp judge decided (June 2014) against my wife Mariani's case of slip-and-fall at St. Cloud Hospital. The Mn Supreme Court should reverse its decision on Dykhoff under pressure from Mn Senate and House of Representatives. The purpose of Work Comp in Mariani's case, too, was not fully served. There is no such thing as a no-fault claim in work related injuries for many Minnesotans anymore. Protections for employees from employers should remain in place or unfair practices will prevail.

  • Restore voting rights to disenfranchised ex-felons
Matthew Parker is former heroin addict who has been drug and crime free for 12 years. As an ex-felon he has not just served all of his time in prison, but has since gone on to earn a bachelor's degree from a good four-year college and a master's from an Ivy League school. He has also published a memoir and teaches creative writing, yet is still barred from voting in his home state of Arizona. Matthew wrote this petition because it is his firm belief that, like most ex-felons who have done their time and pay their taxes, he should be afforded representation like every other tax-paying American Citizen. In a telling summation, Matthew has stated that, “Full redemption can never be complete when forgiveness remains so elusive.”

  • Iowa Family Preservation Project
When I filed civil action against the Caseworker and Social worker in my case this is the response I received. WHY IMMUNITY LAW MUST BE AMENDED FROM IOWA LAW BOOKS Section 669.14.(4), commonly referred to as intentional tort exceptions, indicates that the State's waiver of sovereign immunity does not apply to any claim arising out of "assault”, battery, false imprisonment, false arrest, malicious prosecution, abuse of process, libel, slander, misrepresentation, deceit, or interference with contract rights, This is a list of excluded claims. Minor v.State,819 n.w.2d 383,406 (Iowa 2012). Where the basis of a plaintiffs’ claim is one of the causes of action on this list, or its equivalent, the government official is immune. Id. Ms.Fuegen Sellers is immune against the claims for slander and libel as they are explicitly on the list of excluded claims. She is also immune to allegations of physical and mental abuse, which are not torts, but appear to be functional equivalent of assault. She is also immune to the claims of obtaining false information and" breech of verbal contract" as they are the equivalent of misrepresentation or deceit. See generally, Minor v State,819 N W2d at 407-408(Characterizing a mother’s claim that a social worker gathered and presented false information against her as a claim of misrepresentation or deceit). • Washington: Pledge to Vote YES this November on I-594 for Gun Safety!
The shootings at Seattle Pacific University and Reynolds Arthur Academy in Oregon just a few weeks ago broke our hearts. Washington State moms and dads have never been more concerned about gun safety, and never more ready for common sense reform of our gun laws to protect our kids and communities. This Spring, the gun lobby killed a bill in our state legislature ensuring that all gun sales go through the same criminal background check system. Initiative 594 takes this simple, commonsense, life-saving reform directly to the voters – US! We need 126,380 Washingtonians to pledge their votes by the end of August to make Washington safer – that's 10 percent of the votes we need to win on Initiative 594. Pledging now shows your commitment and helps encourage others to pledge as well so we can build momentum and exceed the number of votes we need by Election Day! Initiative 594 won't completely eliminate gun violence – but it's a simple and effective step that we can take this year to make our children and families safer, and together, we can make it happen. Pledge now!

  • Declare your independence from bee-killing pesticides!
Friends of the Earth tested “bee-friendly” garden plants from Home Depot, Lowe's and Walmart in 18 cities across the U.S. and Canada. The tests found more than half of the plant samples tested contained neonicotinoid (neonic) pesticides at levels that could harm or kill bees--with no warning to consumers. So, instead of helping bees in our gardens, we may be unknowingly poisoning them. Thousands of people across the country have signed petitions, sent letters and taken to the streets. They've asked retailers, including Home Depot and Lowe’s, to stop selling neonic pesticides. While we are making some progress and are in dialogue, these and other garden retail giants have yet to publicly commit to getting neonics off their shelves. Pledge to only purchase neonic-free, organic garden plants and seeds. We’ll deliver these pledges to Lowe’s, Home Depot and other top retailers and demand that they listen to sound science and their customers and give bees a chance!

  • Ask your Congressmen to support the Middle Class CHANCE Act that will improve the Pell Grant prog...
Millions of Americans depend on Pell Grants each year to be able to make college more affordable. Research has shown that need-based grant aid, like Pell Grants, increases college enrollment among low- and moderate-income individuals. But with college costs skyrocketing over the last three decades, Pell Grants have lost much of their purchasing power. The Middle Class CHANCE Act, introduced in the Senate by Sens. Mary Landrieu (LA) and Mazie Hirono (HI), and the House by Rep. Loretta Sanchez (CA-16) seeks to combat the financial hindrance on college access for these individuals by increasing the purchasing power of Pell. The bill increases the maximum award of Pell Grants, and restore year-round Pell Grants, among other things. Read more http://bit.ly/chance-act

  • Don't raise tuition at UCONN!
UCONN's Board of Trustees just approved a 6.5% tuition hike to attend Connecticut's flagship public university. For in-state students, that means a rise in cost of $1,000. With fees, room and board, the price to attend UCONN for an in state student is now $24,774 a year. For out of state students, the price will go up to $44,698, which is more than many private colleges. UCONN is also planning on raising tuition prices by 6.8% in 2016. Such a large increase in tuition means many students will not be able to attend UCONN in the coming years because they cannot afford it, or fall further in to debt. These tuition hikes are in response to underfunded government grants. If UConn needs more money, the state should fund it, not workers, who have already made concessions, or students, who can't afford to pay more. Public schools should be affordable to any student who wants to attend and qualifies to get in. The state should bare extra costs, not students. Tell the Board of Trustees and the Connecticut Legislature that if they want to raise UConn's budget, the state should pay, not students or workers.

  • Tell Detroit to turn on the water!
3,600 residents in Detroit are already without water. Why? Because they have bills of $150 or more, or are 60 days past due on bills in a city that is bankrupt. Soon, half of the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department's 323,900 local residents will be out of water. It is unacceptable to withhold our citizens' basic needs like clean running water. We need to call attention to this unacceptable violation of human rights, and quickly -- before more homes run dry. Sign our petition to demand that the Detroit Water and Sewage Department restore running water to the residents of Detroit.

  • Stop luxury taxes on Feminie hygiene products!
Illinois tax revenue tax's Illinois citizens 6.25% for things that are considered "luxury". Luxury items in their eyes are things that could be lived without, therefore they do not need a lower tax rate. The lower tax rate is 1%, this 1% applies to things that we need like certain medicines (that fall under their guidelines) and other items. Why are feminine hygiene products considered a luxury? Is it our choice to have a period every month? Could we live without them? I don't think so, and think that the women of Illinois agree with me. Please sign and let's make a change!
