Making sure the votes of all voters are counted and that they are able to cast their ballots without difficulty is a principle of the electoral process that must be upheld to make sure our elections are free and fair. Attempts to undermine voting rights will only cause voters to question the validity of elections. In order to make sure future electoral problems don't happen a new Voting Rights Act must be passed to make sure our elections can be free and fair for future generations to come.

To increase awareness of policies that are being offered in certain states that will penalize certain populations, who rightfully want to vote in elections. Those populations have been known to lean Democratic in elections. The revised VRA will encourage powerful organizations, which lean Republican, to finance and influence these policies.

The Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legistlation Congress has ever passed. Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Rep. Gene Green should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

Late last week, Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) and John Conyers (D-MI) and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) introduced new legislation—the Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2014—that would strengthen the Voting Rights Act. This bill isn't perfect but is the best vehicle we have for restoring the rights struck down by the Supreme Court last year.1 Improving and passing this bill won't be easy. Already, critics on the right are gearing up to try to kill it, and Speaker John Boehner has yet to commit to bringing it up for a vote.2 Some Republicans are looking to kill any chances of this bill even coming up for debate. There was a great price paid for the peace and unity that we all share today and we should not allow this word to be negatively redefined and risk unraveling what's been achieved. No Ethnicity on this Earth deserves to have the N-word forced upon them as if they were its creators or somehow responsible for the damage that it has caused to all ethnicities, colors and genders over the centuries. We all know that this isn't right and the new definition is at best a partial and unbalanced attempt at truth. The sad and ugly truth is that many dictionaries have redefined this word and completely ignored it's many uses that were and are still aimed at multiple ethnicities, colors, and genders of people today. Most of the world has great disdain towards the N-word and if your like me, then you're tired of having it forced into your daily life and upon the undeserving millions who dislike both forms of the N-word and never use either one.
