We need to stop the onslaught to our liberties, especially voting rights. One man, one vote is one of the cornerstones of this nation and our Constitution. This bill is a start on the road to overturning Citizen’s United!

I've been a voting rights activist for over 20 years. The Voting Rights Act is one of the most important pieces of civil rights legislation Congress has ever passed. Last year's Supreme Court decision weakened critical provisions of it. Right now, Congress can restore those protections by passing this important bill. Congresswoman Speier should support this effort by cosponsoring and fighting for a strong bill.

I'm upset that certain states that are enacting laws to stop voter fraud that does not exist with the intent to make it difficult for certain classes of voters will have difficulty in voting. This is not what our forefathers Wanted.

The Supreme Court decision has set our country back 200 years. Too many people have died for the right of all Americans to let their voices be heard at the polling place. Rep. McNerney, you should stand with us in restoring this basic human right.

Over the years, your vote has often elected the candidates of your choice. It has made you feel that said candidates had an obligation to you to live up their campaign promises..... and that you have the right to hold them responsible if they don't. It made you feel powerful and important.... it is the power of" Choice". It lets you know that as long as you have a "Vote" you have a "Voice". Now more than ever that vote allows us to keep good people in office and remove those that we deem unworthy. It is one of the things that separates us from a "Dictatorship". Now what if you lost your power to "vote"? What if you lost your power to choose the candidate of your "choice"? What if you lost the power to choose where you will live, how your children will be educated, what religion you practice..........and even who you can marry? Well, if the "Voting Rights Amendment Act" of 2014(VRA) is not passed then some people may lose their vote, their freedom of "Choice".

While the celebration of M.L.King is still fresh in our minds, it is important to do more than just honor the man. Equal participation in our civil rights is the basis for our Democracy, without which we are doomed to rule by money. We must restore the protections, that were weakened by last year's Supreme Court decision, which allow everyone, regardless of race, disability, economics or age to participate in the elections process.
