• Tell the FCC: Save the free and open Internet
Following a court ruling, a handful of major corporations — Verizon, AT&T, Comcast, and Time Warner Cable — now have total control over what we're able to see and do online. The free and open Internet is critical is to our communities' ability to access and share information without a corporate filter, and to effectively organize for racial and social justice. And as the FCC's National Broadband Plan acknowledges, high-speed Internet is an essential service that all Americans need in order to perform basic tasks, from applying for a job, to doing schoolwork, finding a home, and running a business.

We live in Colorado because it’s a beautiful, special place. We love our mountains. We love to be outdoors. None of that is worth much if you can’t breathe the air.

  • Restart Extended Unemployment
I am a ten year duel Military Veterans wife. Due to the limited government funds my husband has not been able to reenlist in the Military even though he is fully qualified. He has applied for hundreds of jobs, yet still has none. It took the Army 6 months to inform my husband who was waiting on a contract that he could not reenlist because he had been serving in the Marine Corps and was out of his Army MOS too long. During these six my family was homeless and living in tents. We now have a place to live, but due to the cut of extended unemployment will be soon be homeless again. My husband is still applying for jobs, anything and everything, yet he has only had one interview. We do NOT qualify for most of the state programs and I am permanetly disabled and my SSDI is just a few dollars too high.We have a handicap child that is suffering because of the negligence of Army recruiters not knowing the policy and having us wait six months to ship. My husband is trying to enroll in school, however he is on the MGIB and this does not allow for income to survive for our family of five, and even if he does there won't be a penny until March, by then we will have lost our home, our belongings and even our car. Our incident is not an isolated situation. Please sign this petition so honest families like ours who are actually trying to find work can keep a stable environment and be able to actually work when a job is found.

  • Stop Congress from sabotaging diplomacy with Iran!
After months of international negotiations and hard-fought diplomacy, Iran agreed to not only limit its uranium enrichment to 5 percent, the grade commonly used to power reactors, but to neutralize its stockpile of 20 percent enriched uranium, which could be used to create weapons-grade material. Additionally, Iran has agreed to open its doors to daily inspections by the international nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). This unprecedented agreement will last for six months and lays the groundwork for a final deal that could permanently end the impasse. Right now, a misguided effort for harsh new sanctions -- led by Senator Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) -- threatens to permanently derail the negotiations. These next six months are critical, laying the groundwork for a comprehensive plan that could verifiably end the nuclear crisis. With reckless disregard for the magnitude of the opportunity and the complexity of the diplomacy involved, Sen. Menendez is leading the Senate’s charge to needlessly expand sanctions and drive Iran from the negotiating table. If diplomacy fails, the likely alternatives are a nuclear-armed Iran or a march to war. Our voices matter in foreign policy issues. Now is your chance to tell the Senate to oppose the Nuclear Weapons Free Iran Act ( S.1881). We can’t afford to take diplomacy off the table.

  • Support Whistleblower John Kiriakou's Request
John Kiriakou has been denied a release to serve the last 9 months of his sentence in a halfway house. He still hopes to be released to a halfway house before the end of 2014. John stepped forward to provide information on an illegal CIA torture program knowing that he might put his freedom at risk by doing this. Faced with charges that could have resulted in a very long prison sentence he accepted a deal that resulted in a 30 month sentence. He has set a good example for all of us by risking his own freedom to reveal extremely serious violations of human rights. I believe that John very much deservers our support for his request to be released to a halfway house.

  • No more rape apologists--Denounce Richard Black!
Richard Black, a candidate for Congress in Virginia, thinks that spousal rape should not be a crime. When Virginia voted to allow spouses to be prosecuted for rape, Black opposed it as a state senator and questioned whether marital rape is even possible, saying "when they're living together, sleeping in the same bed, she's in a nightie, and so forth." This is outrageous and unacceptable. Marital rape is a crime and a very serious instance of domestic violence. And it's not the first time Black dismisses rape with his comments. He once told a newspaper that military rape is "as predictable as human nature... Think of yourself at 25,... Wouldn't you love to have a group of 19-year-old girls under your control, day in, day out?" When candidates for public office aren't met with the outrage they deserve for their offensive and incredibly dangerous comments, it only emboldens them to push radical anti-woman policies once they are in office. Black's views on rape are downright dangerous and inhumane, and we have to speak out. The National Republican Campaign Committee knows that women voters are critical to success. They have to hear that this is the wrong way to attract them.

  • Tell the FCC: Restore Net Neutrality
An appeals court just dealt the latest blow to the open Internet. The court struck down the Federal Communications Commission’s Open Internet Order because of the questionable legal framework the agency used when it adopted its Net neutrality rules in 2010. This ruling means there is no one who can protect us from ISPs that block or discriminate against websites, applications, or services. But there’s hope: FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler can correct the agency’s past mistakes and truly protect our nation’s communications infrastructure. The agency must take the necessary steps to make broadband networks open, accessible, reliable, and affordable for everyone. We need to tell the FCC to start treating broadband like a communications service, and to restore its Net neutrality rules.
