Federal Government: Ratification of the 27th amendment of the United States ConstitutionEquality was a key thought with the founding of the country. How is it equal for some to continue to receive pay while others with the same employer go without a paycheck. This has the potential to be exploited and must be stopped.11 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cameron Blake

Steny Hoyer: Don't help GOP push for Iran warThe Huffington Post and other media have reported that House Democratic whip Steny Hoyer, the #2 House Democrat, has been in talks with House Republican Majority Leader Eric Cantor on introducing a bill that would sabotage President Obama's diplomatic engagement with Iran. As the White House, the Senate Democratic leadership, and the U.S. intelligence community have said, blowing up diplomacy with Iran would put the U.S. on a path to war. Steny Hoyer must answer the question: "Which side are you on?" Is he with the President and diplomacy, or is he with the Republicans and war?20,701 of 25,000 SignaturesCreated by Robert Naiman

Thank Senator Prescott: Elections Are Not for SaleThe Citizens United U.S. Supreme Court ruling struck down restrictions on corporate and union spending in elections. The court enabled an explosion of election spending, often from secret sources. In the 2012 New Hampshire gubernatorial race, outside groups spent $19 million - almost 5 times what the candidates spent themselves. Americans of all political backgrounds are outraged. In New Hampshire, 72% of residents oppose Citizens United (81% Democrats, 70% Independents, and 64% Republicans). SB 307 is about taking power away from outside influences to decide our political leaders and giving it back to the people of New Hampshire to whom it rightfully belongs. With our democracy in crisis, now is the time to act. Senator Prescott is a key vote to ensuring the passage of SB 307 and has expressed his inclination to support it. Sign the petition and thank Senator Prescott for his support and urge him to vote yes on SB 307.655 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Pat Fiero

Honor the Promise! The time has come again to stand up for our individuals and their services. Last year, the concerted efforts of all of us helped us preserve the services to our individuals , and our jobs. Once again, we are being pushed to the brink of the same predicament we were in last year. Please, sign the online petition asking the Governor not to propose or support cuts in funding to supports and services for people with developmental disabilities. We need to illustrate that people with disabilities, their families and those who support them are united in supporting this message. We have hundreds of thousands of people across the state who support our goal of no more cuts, yet fewer than 5,000 people have taken less than a minute to join in and support this effort. We can do much better than that. Please help spread the word.29 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Augusto Delerme

Sign the petition: Denounce Congress for planning to cut $9 billion from food stampsThe Washington Post reports that "negotiations are almost complete on a long-overdue farm bill" and that House and Senate negotiators plan to "call for eliminating about $9 billion in funding for food stamps." ?#@*&%! But this fight is not over, not by a longshot. Here is how we plan to stop food stamp cuts: Passage of the Farm Bill is not guaranteed. Any Farm Bill has to pass both the tea party controlled House and the Democratic controlled Senate. Just as there are some Democrats who will oppose the bill because it cuts food stamps (partially because the Daily Kos community sent 265,000 emails telling members of Congress to oppose food stamp cuts), there are also tea partiers who oppose the Farm Bill because it doesn't cut food stamps enough. As such, it is possible for a left-right coalition to sink this bill. If the Farm Bill is defeated, then any food stamp cuts will probably be delayed at least a year. If there is no way to pass a Farm Bill in the current Congress, then the most likely outcome is for a continuing resolution which would extend the current Farm Bill for another year. This would stop any cuts to the food stamp program, and kick the can down the road until there is a new Congress after the 2014 elections. Now, there is no guarantee that the 2014 elections will result in a Congress that is better on food stamps. In fact, those elections could make things even worse. But defeating the Farm Bill, getting a continuing resolution, and then doing well in the 2014 elections is the only realistic path to stopping food stamp cuts. This is our path. Please sign our petition denouncing congressional negotiators for planning to cut food stamps, and share the bill far and wide over Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.10,055 of 15,000 SignaturesCreated by Paul Hogarth

Rep. Issa: Don’t leak confidential security information about HealthCare.gov!Rep. Darrell Issa of California -- the Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee -- could make retail giant Target’s security breach look like child's play. He subpoenaed confidential documents from the federal contractor behind the healthcare exchange website despite repeated and explicit warnings, effectively putting millions of Americans’ privacy at risk. If leaked, these documents -- containing software code and technical information -- could make the site and its users vulnerable to hackers. The Chairman has a horrible track record of publicly leaking sensitive information, and he has already revealed portions of the documents in a public letter to Secretary Sebelius. Now that the documents are in the hands of Rep. Issa -- one of the loudest critics of the Affordable Care Act and HealthCare.gov -- there’s no telling what he might do.423 of 500 SignaturesCreated by Sarah Callahan, Courage Campaign

Emergency Unemployment ExtensionI have worked full time for over 30 years and paid into the unemployment insurance fund. I was laid off from my job 8 months ago and have been diligently looking for work. I am not a slouch or a freeloader. I worked hard all my life to support myself and my children. I am 61 years old and am getting ready to lose my house and my car. I can't believe that I will be homeless at age 61. If I don't have a car, I can't even get to a job but I can't afford the car payment or the car insurance without my unemployment benefits. How can this country leave 1.6 billion people without any income at all? How is that going to help the economy when all of these people will be homeless and in the welfare lines just to be able to get food to eat? I thought this Nation was better than that. I thought we were the land of the free but I am finding out it is all about the rich and corporate America and what they will lose to help their fellow Americans. I am so disilusioned. Please sign my petition today. Thank you.44 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Lucille Smallwood

Polluters Need More—Not Less—OversightWe’re concerned and you should be too. Last fall, when our federal government screeched to a grinding halt we learned that federal environmental inspections and pollution monitoring did too. That was distressing enough. Now, we may have to contend with less enforcement of limits on dangerous pollution by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) own design. Chronic polluters have reason to rejoice while they reign in profits at our expense if EPA reduces their role as cop on the pollution beat. TAKE ACTION to demand EPA keep polluters in check. Tell Administrator Gina McCarthy that you support a fully-staffed EPA enforcement plan. 2013 highlighted a host of environmental challenges from explosions at refineries and fertilizer plants to multiple Exxon oil spills. Last year also marked the fifth Anniversary of the Kingston, TN coal ash spill that devastated still-recovering communities in Tennessee and Alabama. With these challenges in mind, EPA has just as many reasons today to hold industrial polluters to tough oversight as ever before. Reducing enforcement is equivalent to leaving communities overburdened by toxic air and water pollution out in the cold to fend for themselves. Cutting enforcement resources will disproportionately injure communities of color and low-income communities who are more likely to live near polluting industrial facilities. That’s why we have a BIG problem if EPA is deciding to reduce resources for their enforcement team while the stakes remain high. Big polluters already release toxic pollution into our air and water with reckless abandon. One can only imagine how much more these Big Polluters would be emboldened by EPA willingly taking their eyes off the ball. How are fewer inspections a good thing? Who is better protected by less oversight? Certainly not you and your neighbors. Ask Administrator McCarthy to review this Agency report to make sure that the 2014 plan includes more—not less—resources for holding big polluters accountable.782 of 800 SignaturesCreated by Patti Goldman, Earthjustice
