President Obama: End Border Patrol's Pro-Murder PolicyPresident Obama needs to rein in the murderous tendencies of his Border Patrol. Last year, Border Patrol killed a 16 year old Mexican boy named José Antonio Elena Rodríguez who was accused of throwing rocks over the fence at the US-Mexico border. Local police said there was little chance the rocks ever would’ve hit someone on the other side, but that didn’t stop Border Patrol from shooting him 11 times -- at least 10 of those times in the back. Since then, a government-commissioned independent review board recommended that Border Patrol end the practice of responding to rock throwing with gunfire. Border Patrol refused. Since 2010, Border Patrol killed Jose Antonio and seven other people in rock throwing incidents. They’ve killed 18 people total in alleged excessive force incidents in the same timeframe. Border Patrol has a serious problem, and it’s time for President Obama to take control of the out of control agency. Responding to rocks with gunfire is not self-defense -- in the face of a rock attack Border Patrol agents have numerous options including tactical engagement so that agents can be safe when approaching a scenario or control the area from further back. When the Administration agreed to review its use of force policies earlier this year, it seemed like real change was imminent. Now it just looks like another cheap public relations move. The Obama Administration’s decision threatens to destroy the thin trust developed between border communities and the Department of Homeland Security. We demand real change at the border -- the Obama administration must respect human life. Please sign our petition calling on President Obama to stop Border Patrol from using deadly force against rock throwers at the border.177 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Presente.org

Rep. Pittenger Support H.R. 15Now is the time for our members of congress to stop dragging their feet and support a comprehensive immigration reform that will help millions of families to come out of the shadows and fully participate in our communities. On October 27, California Congressman Jeff Denham did what many thought impossible. As a Republican, he decided to put families over politics and signed on to the comprehensive immigration reform bill H.R. 15. This is an opportunity for Representative Pittenger to do the same. We need Rep. Pittenger to also be a leader and put families over politics. A recent Harper Polling report states that 69% of North Carolinians support immigration reform in principal. The same report says that 74% of North Carolinians believe that Congress should enact immigration reform this year. Also, 48% of respondents said they were less likely to support an elected official who opposed reform, compared with just 20% who were more likely to support a reform opponent. According to a study published last month by the political research group Latino Decisions, because of changing demographics, Rep. Pittenger is in danger of losing his congressional seat in 2014, if he does not support comprehensive immigration reform. Universal Human RightsThere are some problems the world looks to the United States to solve and while not everyone can agree on war and arms sales, we dont believe anyone can deny these 5 critical freedoms to all people everywhere. Whether someone is the head of state or spending a lifetime sentence in prison, these 5 essential rights should be provided to all those in need and strengthened and protected for the rest. Twitter: Don't Play Tricks with Your TaxesTwitter just barely became a publicly traded company -- but it's already finding new ways to dodge its taxes. A tax loophole might let it deduct $154 million from its taxes, for buying stock options for its leaders -- but it only spent $7 million on those options. Don't let Twitter get a tax deduction that is 20 times what it actually spent. Tell CEO Dick Costolo not to exploit this loophole.9,148 of 10,000 SignaturesCreated by Margarida Jorge, Americans for Tax Fairness

protect private property rightsPrivate property is regularly breached. Both I and many others have been hassled and threatened with fines by these city employees. This has been going on for a long time. Extend Voting Hours in VirginiaDue to the extensive traffic in Northern Virginia, many voters were unable to place their votes by the 7:00 pm deadline. Many of us unfortunately have commute times that can extend over 90 minutes and jobs rarely have the 9-5 hours that were once a staple in this country. After noting the deplorably low percentage of people attending the voting booths this November, I believe extending the voting hours from 7pm to 8pm will allow more people to vote and will increase public participation in the democratic process.14 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Racheal Hilliker

Put KY coal severance money where it belongs! The KY state government is supposed to oversee the proper use of this money and has instead voted to spend 2.5 million from the dwindling fund to renovate the UK Basketball arena in Lexington. Meanwhile coal-impacted communities struggle to fund education, necessary infrastructure repairs, and clean drinking water. This is shameful. Stand with the KY Student Environmental Coalition to oppose wasteful spending of coal severance taxes and to demand transparency on the ways that severance monies are allocated.1,521 of 2,000 SignaturesCreated by Cara Cooper

No war on Iran - Diplomacy alwaysOur Congress is acting like a warmonger and not allowing diplomacy to fix U.S./Iran relationship. The U.S. needs to stop settling things with wars. The Afghanistan and Iraq wars have left our country economically devastated, and the countries of Afghanistan and Iraq completely devastated. Obviously, war was the wrong choice for our dead soldiers and the people of Afghanistan and Iraq.270 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Carlos Valdes

Free Speech on Cablevison TVWe watch many news programs like the Rachel Maddow Show and others on MSNBC. We feel they do not cover as much information as is needed to keep the public informed and educated because of other less progressive programming elsewhere. More time slots are needed for people with busy lives to view these other progressive shows.45 of 100 SignaturesCreated by elaine peters
