• Constitutional Amendment to Freeze Congress' Pay During Government Shutdown
The 27th Amendment to the Constitution restricts any Congress from changing its own pay. The measure was proposed in the first days of the Republic but was not ratified until 1992, after a grass-roots movement promoted the idea and the necessary number of state legislatures approved it. While many may have wanted to restrain Congress from increasing its pay, the amendment also blocks Congress from freezing or cutting its compensation. It is time for another grass-roots movement to ensure that in a federal government shut down members of Congress are not getting paid while soldiers and other more essential federal employees must either work without pay or be furloughed. Fair is fair.

  • NEVER. Not Ever
This is a constructive way to express my extreme frustration and anger at the destruction of a once proud GOP. It provides concrete proof that their tactics are not working now, and will have far reaching consequences, for decades to come.

  • Make Detroit Belle Isle a National Landmark
Detroit Belle Isle Park is a public park which should remain free and open to everyone. The best way to protect the park's history as well as its historic importance would be for it to become a national landmark.

  • No pay for Congress during shutdown, but daily fines until government is back in business
The government shutdown is the fault of both the House and Senate. The members are receiving their pay during the shutdown. Not paying them, and not paying them retroactively--plus a fine of $10,000 per day of the government shutdown--should get the government up and running very, very quickly.

  • No Pay or Benefits for Elected Federal Lawmakers/Officials until Shutdown has Ended
It's time that Congress started behaving like adults and not children and represented the people of this country. Their actions are of no consequence to them as their pay and benefits are not affected. They are supposed to be a government of the people, by the people, for the people--but it's only we the people being hurt by this government shutdown.

  • Remove Ted Cruz from office.
The government shutdown affects us all. The man most responsible for rallying the votes should be removed from office. The American people should have a say in their government. If the government isn't doing what is best for those people, there should be consequences.

  • Congress Should Not Get Paid in a Shutdown
I am a single mother with one child in college and the other about to graduate from high school. I need my paycheck like everyone else. I have a mortgage, car note, and bills like everyone else. Without a job I can't help my children with student loans in any way. But more importantly, with 1.2 million more people out of work this is going to have a major impact on the economy as a whole and the ramifications will still be felt even after we go back to work for small businesses as well as large. The longer we are out, the worse it will be. With the entire economy of the United States at risk, Congress should not continue to be paid for this blunder. Please support this petition and pass it along.

  • Government Shutdown = No Congressional Pay
Congress is spoiled, petty, transparent, selfish and altogether unconcerned with the well-being of America and Americans. We are sick and tired of it. Please sign this petition if you believe Congress should not get paid during federal government shutdowns.

  • Shut Down Congress's Pay
I am disgusted that these overly-entitled individuals seek to repudiate the results of elections and Supreme Court decisions, and in so doing hold the entire economy of the country and its citizens hostage while continuing to feed themselves and their families at our expense. No more. No pay for no work.
