• ELIMINATE CONGRESS
Fed up with the lies & deceit and the pandering to corporate interests. Fed up with what they have done to the poor & the middle class. Fed up with their self interests & their game playing. I worked all my life contributing taxes, SS deductions, Medicare deductions, paying high interest rates to banks that keep selling my mortgage to someone else, yet, now on a fixed retirement income, I cannot afford to pay my utility costs. Fed up with the dirty business of the oil & gas industries lies & destruction of our natural resources, and their grip on the politics in this country. Fed up with what they have done to our health via vaccines, drugs, chemical spraying from the skies, additives in our food & water & allowing chemical companies like Monsanto & DuPont & Dow to grow & prosper, while poisoning our water, our air & our environment. We deserve to have unprocessed food, fresh air, clean water sources, free energy & health care. We need our freedom from bondage. We need people who are working for US, and not the corporations & Wall Street. It's time to get rid of them all.

  • Start the Government Back Up!
Today Congress fell behind on its basic responsibilities to keep the lights on and our doors open in federal offices around the country. As a result, 800,000 workers are taking an unpaid day off today and for the foreseeable future. That's a terrible idea, both for the economy and for the nation. Congress needs to know we want them to turn the lights back on!

  • Dear Congress: We Accept Your Resignation.
Let's be honest: it hasn't been working out between us for a while. From the Wall Street bailout of 2008 on down to the sequester, it’s been pretty clear that your allegiances lay with the banks and multi-national corporations, rather than the majority of Americans. But shutting down the government crucial regulatory services, national parks, inspections and oversight services that benefit everyone as well as throwing the millions of Americans who rely on their government paycheck for stability (many whom are just one shock away from poverty) under the bus… well, that just proves it. Join us and tell Congress you feel the same.

  • Stop the Lucketts Truck Weigh Station
The truck weigh station as proposed for Lucketts, Virginia is inconsistent with our desires and the impact on our traffic poses a safety hazard to our families. Although the desire to secure additional revenue is understood, the negative impact to our citizens, community and scenic Route 15 is not. We ask that you abandon this project immediately. Instead, we ask that any tax dollars available be used to implement the improvements set forth in the proposed Lucketts Safety Plan, such as sidewalks , turn lanes and crosswalks. Introducing this level of mayhem to our fragile transportation corridor while simultaneously exposing us to safety issues and added pollution is unacceptable. This is hallowed ground. The Route 15 bypass near Leesburg where inspections are already taking place would be a more appropriate location.

  • Let Government Shutdowns Start with Congressional Paychecks
The government has shut down. People are out of work--or worse, required to work with the potential to do so unpaid--but Congress is still getting paid to sit on their backsides and point fingers. The rest of us have to work for a living. I wish I had a job where I could keep getting paid even if I refused to do any work. Politicians have become unaccountable because they are the last to be affected by their poor decisions. A shutdown should affect their pay and benefits first. I also believe any politician who would then refuse to attend due to cessation of pay should be arrested for breach of their constitutional obligations to the people of this country.

  • Reopen Acadia National Park
As you know, the government shutdown has forced the closure of Acadia National Park. As you also know, Bar Harbor's primary industry is tourism. The people of this town have, at most, 5 months to make the money that supports them for the entire year. Much of that money comes in September and October, when the bulk of our cruise ships and bus tours visit to offer its patrons a chance to enjoy our foliage, especially from within Acadia National Park. Because of the closure of the park, the cruise ships are considering moving their business to other ports. Already, hotels are reporting cancellations from bus tours. I understand the government resources are being conserved during this shutdown, but I urge you, even beg you, to pass an emergency bill that would allow Acadia National Park to reopen. If the cruise ships withdraw and the bus tours stop coming, losing October's revenue will be crippling to this small community. In the spring, during the sequester, the roads of Acadia National Park remained open, but certain sections, such as the Visitor Center, were closed. While this was financially painful, it would be a welcome alternative to full closure at this point. Please, if there is anything you can do to reopen the Park, the few thousand residents that depend on it would be beyond thankful.

  • No Pay for Congress During Shutdown
The welfare of our country and its citizens should be the top priority of our elected officials. It is ridiculous that elected officials can make such rash decisions that have an enormous impact on the income/economy of the American people, while avoiding any effects themselves.

  • Government Shutdown ~ Stop paying Congress while other Federal workers lose out
Why should the worker bees that work for our federal government be the ones that have to take a furlough instead of the ones causing the problems? It is time we change this. It is time we furlough the Congressional people's pay and make them work without pay like they are other federal workers. With their pay halted, it can pay the other workers that need their paychecks to live from week to week. Please sign this petition to help the worker bees of America.

  • Tie congressional pay to a government shutdown
Congress is willing to furlough their own staffers along with more than 800,000 federal workers, while they suffer no monetary loss at all. If they think it is okay to shut the government down (or not raise the debt ceiling), then they should be the first ones to suffer from it.

  • Congressional pay
The people of the USA should be top priority! Shutting down our government for a law that has been passed is effecting the everyday life and morale of our country. Citizens are being effected by a Congress that wants to spite our President and in turn afflict their anger on the people for whom this country was built. Congress works for the people, and they have let us down!

  • Establish penalties for elected officials when the government shuts down
Is it unacceptable that our elected officials are still getting paid while parts of our government have been completely shut down. There needs to be a harsh penalty when the grandstanding agenda of a few affects so many of us taxpaying citizens. I declare that if the government shuts down, Senators, Representatives, and the President should not be paid their salary, be permitted to expense anything at the taxpayer's expense, nor should they leave Washington, D.C. until there is a resolution to the shutdown. Enough is enough.
