NSA intrusions on our privacyI am a psychoanalyst. I have started this petition because recent revelations (e.g., NY Times, 5 September 2013) make it clear that messages -- even encrypted messages -- which I exchange with my patients (via e-mail, IM, telephone, or Skype) can and will be intercepted, decrypted, and analyzed by the NSA. This violates HIPAA regulations and seriously interferes with my ability to communicate with the very people to whom I have promised that what they tell me will be kept in complete confidence. When trust is undermined in the psychotherapeutic or psychoanalytic arena, I am no longer able to do my work.211 of 300 SignaturesCreated by Paul Brinich

Wisconsin DNR: Rescind The Grant Money Awarded To United SportsmenUnited Sportsmen lied about their tax status to receive this grant money. They are a partisan group who is now about to use public money. What's worse than the initial half a million we taxpayers are gifting them with is that this grant is set to renew automatically every two years without needing to re-apply. Unacceptable! Sign and tell the DNR they must rescind this grant! You can read more about this here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/news/222540421.html155 of 200 SignaturesCreated by Angie Aker

use UN Security Council to prevent chemical weapons use in SyriaThis UN Security Council resolution would be the most effective way to prevent the use of chemical weapons in Syria. It would also negate the justification the Obama administration is using for military strikes in Syria.2 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Carl Nyberg

Do not Begin a War in Syria, pleaseKilling more civilians in Syria will not protect them; we do not need to interfere in a civil war. We could instead gather all the countries together and have a diplomatic peace process. We feel that this is about the oil. We are exhausted from the Iraq War, and we are still fighting in Afghanistan. We cannot afford to lose any more soldiers, and we cannot afford to waste money on a military strike.18 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Margaret "Julie" Finch

The Cops Laughed As They Watched Him DieEighteen-year-old Israel Hernandez-Llach was an award-winning artist in Miami, Florida – a painter, sculptor, photographer and graffiti artist. He was armed with nothing more than a can of spray paint, threatening nothing but the wall of an abandoned McDonalds, when the cops chased him down, tased him, and allegedly laughed and high-fived as he lay motionless and dying on the ground. Israel's family is awaiting his autopsy results to conclusively determine the cause of his death, but what we already know is that Tasers are dangerous and can kill, especially when misused by police. And this is not an isolated incident. The Miami Beach Police Department has an appalling record of using excessive force, including firing over 100 bullets at the car of a drunk driver and falsely arresting a witness who called 911 to report police beating a handcuffed gay man. On top of that, Florida has the 2nd largest number of deaths by Taser in the country. The events of Israel’s tragic death have devastated his family and sparked national outrage over this use of potentially lethal force to deal with a youthful indiscretion. The Miami Beach Police are currently under investigation, but without better guidelines and training for use of Tasers, we can’t guarantee that there won’t be more needless tragedies. That’s why we need to act now, while Israel’s story is in the spotlight, and call for change. Sign the petition urging the Mayor of Miami Beach to order a change in the police department’s Taser policy – to help prevent more needless tragedies.154 of 200 SignaturesCreated by ACLU Action

We The People DO NOT Want Military Intervention in Syria!President Obama is poised to send air strikes to Syria under allegations Assad has used chemical weapons. There has been zero evidence presented to the American people of Assad's involvement. On the contrary, there are reports the "attack" was actually due to rebel forces mishandling chemicals sent by Saudi Arabia. Military intervention will neither protect nor defend the people of Syria and will only create more enemies in the Middle East. The U.S. public does not support military intervention.13 of 100 SignaturesCreated by Cory McCauley
