  • I Have Chosen NOT to Register with Kana‘iolowalu
OHA has begun defunding Native Hawaiian health and education programs, while continuing to provide millions of beneficiary funds for Kana‘iolowalu. Despite millions spent on advertising and outreach, less than 4% of Native Hawaiians have voluntarily signed up for the Roll. Sign this petition to send a clear message to the Trustees that our top priorities are education and health.

  • Save Our Planet: End Global Warming
I am concerned that the record heat, storms, drought and fires our planet has experienced are just the beginning of the climate change that will only get worse. Last year was the warmest on record.

  • Drop Gas Masks, Not Bombs
Blowing things up in Syria will help no one and have negative effects on our relations with China and Russia. It would be illegal aggression under the UN Charter, and breaking UN rules because we are against others breaking other UN rules makes little sense. Giving the Syrian people gas masks will actually help them, it is legal, and it will not make any other nations mad at us.

  • Domestic Drone Prohibition
The public should be concerned about this issue as there are currently no laws that govern the use of domestic drones by either civilians or public agencies. The California legislature is considering two drone bills, both of which allow drones and put enforcement into the hands of the public, a nearly impossible and unrealistic prospect. Along with privacy concerns, domestic drones present safety hazards (they can fly into each other and fall on someone's head), they promote criminality (theft, burglary and predator use), and they also present a wide range of abuse by law enforcement, particularly if they are operated for unauthorized general surveillance. Our State Assembly must enact legislation which is designed to serve the interests of the citizens not the interests of Homeland Security or law enforcement. Domestic drone use must must be closely monitored for law enforcement purposes and regulated to preserve and protect citizens' Constitutional rights otherwise a society with "Big Brother" watching could become a reality.

  • Rep. Brownley: Don't renew "fast track" authority.
Fast track would allow the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership to leapfrog customary legislative protocol and be put to a rapid “up or down” vote without a public hearing, floor debate, or amendments. Transnational corporations have taken advantage of similar fast track negotiations In the past and the resulting agreements have hollowed out our economy, undermined our national sovereignty, and created a race to the bottom for the world’s workers. A fast-tracked Trans-Pacific Partnership is a recipe for more of the same. As a working professional near retirement age, I’ve personally witnessed America’s economic and civic decline in this era of so-called “free trade.” I’m worried what the future will hold for the next generation. We cannot give up democratic control of our own destiny - Congress must represent us and hold these powerful corporate interests accountable in all upcoming trade talks.

  • Tell Ted Cruz to stop lying about Obamacare.
When Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said that 7 million people will lose their insurance under Obamacare, he was lying. Politifact called him out. When Ted Cruz said President Obama "granted all of Congress an exception" to Obamacare, he was lying. Politifact called him out. Now Sen. Cruz has taken this show on the road. He spent the past month dining off his dishonest talking points with party faithfuls in New Hampshire and Iowa when he should have been attending to the needs of his constituents. Taken as a whole, it seems more about Ted than Obamacare. Or Texas. Because if he cared about Texas, he'd be doing something about the 4,4400 children who won't go to preschool because of the budget cuts forced by sequestration. Or asking why Texas is among the states with the most low paid workers in the country. If he weren’t lying about Obamacare, he might deal with the sad fact that his state has the highest proportion of uninsured the country.

  • Put a Warning Label on Every Corporate-Funded Ad in NYC Elections
New York City’s strong campaign finance system is under threat from a flood of corporate cash, through so-called "independent expenditures" (like the "Super PAC" spending that became legal following the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision). In City Council races, corporate spending can easily overwhelm all other spending by candidates, and become the majority of information available to most voters. One PAC funded by real estate developers plans to spend $10 million in City Council races this year, under the semi-anonymous name "Jobs for New York." The City Council can pass legislation to make every ad carry a warning label so that voters know it is not subject to the campaign finance rules that protect our democracy. In New York City, we also need to close the loophole that corporations use to avoid contribution limits and require them to identify themselves on their ads. Join us in the fight to close corporate loopholes and require transparency to rein in independent expenditures.

  • Stop Commercial Concerts at The State Historic Park
Los Angeles is desperate for a convenient open tranquil nature inspired park. Some positive changes will transform the State Historic Park in 2014 into an incredible oasis of trees, a large water wheel donated by UCLA, ancient artifacts and water will be funneled over from the L.A. river! However, the State Historic Park is committing to 9-10 commercial concerts per year in order to finance the park. This is a densely populated area with old communities such as Solano Park see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solano_Canyon,_Los_Angeles Lincoln Heights and HIghland Park are not far from this park either. As well as all of the Downtown L.A. communities including Chinatown and Little Tokyo. The strategy to include large commercial concerts trashes the local environments, the grounds of the park and wildlife irreparably. There is a better way. Please support the park by signing this petition to stop 15,000 - 25,000 attendance commercial concerts. We are calling on the Governor and the State Park system to eliminate large commercial concerts in support of smaller local community inspired concerts and other events. This Historic State Park serves 3.82 million L.A. residents. The State Park system's mission statement, "To provide for the health, inspiration, and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the State's extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation." No where does it say we support trashing of the environment in favor of money.
