Medicaid expansion in Michigan has been half-passed. It only narrowly passed in the Senate thanks to reckless opposition from right-wing conservatives. But without immediate effect, Michigan stands to lose $7 million a day in federal funding until Medicaid expansion is implemented in April 2014. Senate Republicans not only delayed the Medicaid vote for months, they’ve put Michigan in a position where we’ll lose out on millions of dollars by half-passing Medicaid expansion. The time for immediate effect is now! If you want to save Michigan millions of dollars and help immediately improve the lives of hundreds of thousands of fellow Michiganders, sign the petition and tell Senate Republicans to stop half-passing their jobs and give Medicaid expansion immediate effect.

Traffic on 6th Street is a problem, and many people have worked over the years to decrease traffic on this residential street. The traffic causes noise, air pollution, and unsafe conditions for children, adults, and pets, on a residential street. The current plans for a development at the Hospital Linen site and the Metropolitan State parking structure in Dayton's Bluff, Saint Paul and Beacon Bluff do not contain a way to direct traffic to 7th Street, a commercial street, and will increase traffic on residential 6th Street and adjacent side streets. To date, the lack of a plan to direct traffic towards 7th Street encourages drivers to use 6th Street as a highway ramp to Interstate 94, which has resulted in the loss of life and property. This is completely unacceptable in a residential neighborhood, and will no longer be tolerated by residents of 6th Street, or Dayton's Bluff, and a closure of 6th Street between Mounds and Maria is demanded. The more support the more likely officials will listen. We're hoping to reach 150 signatures to show we are serious. Thank you!

Ten years ago, MoveOn was part of leading the largest anti-war movement in the history of the world. None-the-less, in March 2003 the U.S. went to war. The war was promoted as low cost, short and necessary to protect our security. Few people would now argue that the U.S. made a good choice back in 2003. I can't believe that "precision bombing" is being considered as an appropriate response to the turmoil in Syria. That the U.S. could decide unilaterally to engage in the Syrian civil war. Let's stop this saber rattling amnesia in its tracks! Don't allow this delusional thinking to last one more day.

We request, no demand, that our 8 class periods (requiring an hour-long lunch as one class period) replace our current schedule. We assert that 30 minutes is not nearly enough time to get food and eat it before the allotted time is up. Kids are missing their meals, having to eat far too quickly ( which is very unhealthy), and it is destructive to the education of the students. The lines are too long, the people are too numerous. and the food is not being distributed quickly enough to fulfill the needs of your students, which should be the goal of the school board to begin with.

By the time I was seven, I had already been placed in 17 different foster homes. I was out of options until a loving gay couple, Greg and Stillman, gave me the family that I had dreamed of. Greg and Stillman took me in as a foster kid and then adopted me when I was eight. If it hadn’t been for my two dads, I might have continued to bounce from home to home for years—without their love and support, I doubt I could have made it to college. But in Nebraska, where we live now, gay and lesbian people are prevented from providing loving homes to kids who need them. Nebraska is one of only three states that still have this type of unfair ban. Today, my dads are helping the ACLU fight this ban in court—but we need to use every means possible to challenge this unfair policy, including public pressure. Tell Governor Heineman to do what’s right for the children of Nebraska.

My family lives down Seminole Woods and has noticed the lack of street lights and sidewalks down this road. I have 6 siblings, and 5 of them are younger than me. It is a safety hazard for when the sun goes down and families go on bike rides or play outside that drivers may not see the families or the children outside and could possibly get severely hurt.

Rush Limbaugh recently warned his listeners that “if you believe in God, then intellectually you cannot believe in manmade global warming.” According to Rush, faith-based climate activists simply don’t exist. Imagine Limbaugh’s surprise to learn that there are thousands of us across the country – people of faith who care about God's creation. We need to send a message not just to Rush Limbaugh, but to everyone who believes that faith and climate action are incompatible.

The Department of Environmental Protection missed its legally-mandated deadline to publish the report in the spring of 2012. Today at a meeting of the DEP’s Climate Change Advisory Committee, the department said the report is still going through the review process. However StateImpact Pennsylvania has obtained a copy of the original draft climate report and internal DEP emails, which reveal an attempt by its Policy Office to suppress controversial research that questions the benefits of natural gas. The DEP’s Policy Office wanted a team of Penn State scientists who authored the climate report to remove all references to a 2011 study from Cornell University. The peer reviewed paper, by professor Robert Howarth, has been the subject of intense debate. It concludes that from a climate change perspective, natural gas is dirtier than coal. Although natural gas is much cleaner-burning than coal when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions, methane can leak throughout the gas production process. Methane is the primary component of natural gas, and it’s 20 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas (although it remains in the atmosphere for a much shorter time period). Howarth believes this methane leakage negates any climate change benefits derived from burning natural gas.

The members within Congress and the President of the United States cry to the heavens that the United States is in debt and spending must be marginalized. However, our "leaders" always seem to have the money for war and not better schools, social programs, healthcare, et cetera.
