I am unhappy with the treatment of farm animals. I feel that we have a responsibility to treat animals with more dignity, care, and respect than they are currently receiving.

Animals can not tell us when they are harmed and they can not make change. Animals deserve rights but have no voice,it's up to us to do the right thing and put a stop to these persistent crimes against animals.

I am a psychoanalyst. I have started this petition because recent revelations (e.g., NY Times, 5 September 2013) make it clear that messages -- even encrypted messages -- which I exchange with my patients (via e-mail, IM, telephone, or Skype) can and will be intercepted, decrypted, and analyzed by the NSA. This violates HIPAA regulations and seriously interferes with my ability to communicate with the very people to whom I have promised that what they tell me will be kept in complete confidence. When trust is undermined in the psychotherapeutic or psychoanalytic arena, I am no longer able to do my work.

I want children at Deborah Brown Community School to be able to have their natural afro's and dread lock styles seen proudly in school everyday. : )

United Sportsmen lied about their tax status to receive this grant money. They are a partisan group who is now about to use public money. What's worse than the initial half a million we taxpayers are gifting them with is that this grant is set to renew automatically every two years without needing to re-apply. Unacceptable! Killing more civilians in Syria will not protect them; we do not need to interfere in a civil war. We could instead gather all the countries together and have a diplomatic peace process. We feel that this is about the oil. We are exhausted from the Iraq War, and we are still fighting in Afghanistan. We cannot afford to lose any more soldiers, and we cannot afford to waste money on a military strike.

Eighteen-year-old Israel Hernandez-Llach was an award-winning artist in Miami, Florida – a painter, sculptor, photographer and graffiti artist. He was armed with nothing more than a can of spray paint, threatening nothing but the wall of an abandoned McDonalds, when the cops chased him down, tased him, and allegedly laughed and high-fived as he lay motionless and dying on the ground. Israel's family is awaiting his autopsy results to conclusively determine the cause of his death, but what we already know is that Tasers are dangerous and can kill, especially when misused by police. And this is not an isolated incident. The Miami Beach Police Department has an appalling record of using excessive force, including firing over 100 bullets at the car of a drunk driver and falsely arresting a witness who called 911 to report police beating a handcuffed gay man. On top of that, Florida has the 2nd largest number of deaths by Taser in the country. The events of Israel’s tragic death have devastated his family and sparked national outrage over this use of potentially lethal force to deal with a youthful indiscretion. The Miami Beach Police are currently under investigation, but without better guidelines and training for use of Tasers, we can’t guarantee that there won’t be more needless tragedies. That’s why we need to act now, while Israel’s story is in the spotlight, and call for change.
