• The Blake Cooney Law
June 1, 2012 my teen son Blake Cooney and his friend Jimmy Bullock were killed in a hit and run by a Drugged Driver name Kevin Shelton in Little Rock, Arkansas. My son was killed on impact and his friend died later at the hospital. Kevin Shelton chose to ingest into his body, "PCP" other street names, "SHERM,"Wet" etc. a Chemical Compound containing Formaldehyde, Methanol and other solvents, it is a highly flammable and toxic poison, its purpose is to temporarily preserve the dead so that a funeral or burial may take place. Kevin chose to ingest this poison causing him to drive on a residential highway which runs through a highly populated neighborhood at 95 m/h in a 35 m/h speed zone first crashing into the vehicle of an off duty officer along the way striking and fatally killing Blake and Jimmy whom were walking on the sidewalk then fleeing the scene. He was charged with Negligent Homicide receiving 240 months he will be eligible for parole in 7 yrs, he was sentenced February of 2013 and as of September 25th 2013, only 6 months into serving his sentence, he has been considered to participate in the 309 ACT, which would grant him the luxury of working in a least restrictive environment, cutting grass and washing cars at a sheriff department. Research, evidence and mounting cases of deaths caused while driving under the influence of drugs (other than alcohol) is all too common, keep in mind that this particular drug "PCP" when ingested has not only caused fatal deaths while driving under the influence, but also has continuously been the result of countless deaths by the physical hands of an offender having committed heinous criminal acts while under the influence of this drug. This lethal concoction of pure blunder has indeed resulted in several horrific deaths and an everlasting cycle of grief, Despite the facts prosecutors have been lenient in their efforts of prosecution, conviction and sentencing. 17 states have adopted DUID Per Se Laws and Arkansas is not among them. Please sign this petition so that the Blake Cooney Law may be brought to life, hopefully it will bring about awareness, prevention and perhaps a change in tougher Legislation.

  • Rep. Sam Johnson: Support immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship
The August recess is coming to a close and the House of Representatives have yet to move a immigration reform bill that includes a pathway to citizenship. It's time to stand up to the extremists who want to expel 12,000,000 hard working immigrants and fight for a practical immigration solution rooted in the restoration of the rule of law, earned citizenship, united families and fair treatment for all workers. Tell Rep. Johnson: "It's time to fix the broken immigration system. Pass comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship this year! Now is the time, this is the year -- we need our leaders to lead. Act now to help fix America's broken immigration system.

  • Tell Rep. Pete Sessions: We need a vote on Citizenship
The August recess is coming to a close and the House of Representatives have yet to move a immigration reform bill that includes a pathway to citizenship. We need Rep. Sessions to support a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million immigrants currently living in the United State without papers. Most of these immigrants have lived in this country for more than a decade and have come to America to seek a better life for their families. They are Americans-in-waiting who are ready to fulfill the requirements of our citizenship process - to study English, pay taxes, maintain a good record and be of good moral character. Instead of focusing only on the border, we need a new approach that is better for families and makes more economic sense.

  • Pay Our Teachers What They're Worth.
Why am I doing this? Because I have friends that teach, because I want to teach, because to change careers and teach means I have to be paid less than half of what I would make as a skilled laborer WITHOUT a Masters in Education, or even a degree. THAT isn't right, and it isn't fair.

  • Carl Sciortino: Vote NO on Military Action in Syria
In the race to fill Senator Ed Markey's old Congressional District, Carl Sciortino is the only candidate who said he would vote against authorizing the use of force in Syria. We need to intervene through forceful diplomacy, rather than unilateral military action. Join him in telling Congress to VOTE NO on this important resolution. • OHA: Donʻt cut Nā Pua No‘eau
Nā Pua No‘eau has been successful in developing a model of working with students through community issues and topics. It utilizes its research on optimizing learning of Hawaiian students in the context of leadership, raising aspirations and higher achievement. It has successfully integrated university resources (faculty and facilities) to bridge a greater appreciation of higher learning and education as a vehicle for community development. The result is that the students believe higher education is a viable way to improve the conditions of their family and their community. This momentum needs to be sustained. It needs to have continuous presence and opportunities for those from under-served communities, especially Hawaiians. There are also many more students and communities that need to access these opportunities.

  • I Have Chosen NOT to Register with Kana‘iolowalu
OHA has begun defunding Native Hawaiian health and education programs, while continuing to provide millions of beneficiary funds for Kana‘iolowalu. Despite millions spent on advertising and outreach, less than 4% of Native Hawaiians have voluntarily signed up for the Roll. Sign this petition to send a clear message to the Trustees that our top priorities are education and health.

  • Save Our Planet: End Global Warming
I am concerned that the record heat, storms, drought and fires our planet has experienced are just the beginning of the climate change that will only get worse. Last year was the warmest on record.

  • Drop Gas Masks, Not Bombs
Blowing things up in Syria will help no one and have negative effects on our relations with China and Russia. It would be illegal aggression under the UN Charter, and breaking UN rules because we are against others breaking other UN rules makes little sense. Giving the Syrian people gas masks will actually help them, it is legal, and it will not make any other nations mad at us.

  • Domestic Drone Prohibition
The public should be concerned about this issue as there are currently no laws that govern the use of domestic drones by either civilians or public agencies. The California legislature is considering two drone bills, both of which allow drones and put enforcement into the hands of the public, a nearly impossible and unrealistic prospect. Along with privacy concerns, domestic drones present safety hazards (they can fly into each other and fall on someone's head), they promote criminality (theft, burglary and predator use), and they also present a wide range of abuse by law enforcement, particularly if they are operated for unauthorized general surveillance. Our State Assembly must enact legislation which is designed to serve the interests of the citizens not the interests of Homeland Security or law enforcement. Domestic drone use must must be closely monitored for law enforcement purposes and regulated to preserve and protect citizens' Constitutional rights otherwise a society with "Big Brother" watching could become a reality.
