But public television stations should answer to viewers, NOT billionaires like the Koch brothers! Will you join the call for a national broadcast of "Citizen Koch" on Independent Lens?

Because we need to know the truth.

CDCR (CA Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation) has launched a STG (Security Threat Group) program to be codified into the Title 15. It allows, among many things, long term indefinite isolation of inmates at great expense to the State. It lays the foundation for no one to be allowed out of SHU (Security Housing Unit) and into a SDP (Step Down Program) without agreeing, before entering, the SDP to snitch on others for the CDCR, while in SDP, at great risk to their families and their own safety. You can not simply disavow yourself of gang activity and work toward rehabilitation goals. You must agree to be a confidential informant. It also has a broad brush struck of who can be labeled an STG. It can done on a "suspicion" by a guard, with no proof. There are ways beside the use of SHU's to isolate active gang members from general population without the expense and inhumane treatment of SHU's.

We hope that you will allow listeners to hear this documentary rather than censor it to not upset David Koch. How about it?

I am outraged by the Yahoo! decision to turn off Martin Manley's website. Partly because of his site's potential value to those wishing to better understand and prevent suicide. Because billionaire David Koch has been a major contributor to public TV, the eye-opening documentary "Citizen Koch" was pulled from being broadcast. But as the first public television station in the nation, KUHT should realize that public television must remain unbiased and dedicated to informing the public. This documentary should no longer be blocked from airing on PBS's "Independent Lens."

The taxpayers voted for Prop A, which provided grant funding from L.A. County for cities to improve existing park facilities and for the purchase of open space land. Now our local officials want to take that open space land and turn it back into an oil field. The oil companies and City of Whittier were sued by the Mountain Recreation Conservation Authority (MRCA), L.A. County, and Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy (SMMC). The MRCA, which is part of the Santa Monica Mountain Conservancy (SMMC), won the lawsuit against the oil companies and the City of Whittier. The judge stopped the oil project. Now the MRCA has sold out to Matrix Oil by settling with them. The SMCC will get royalties of up to $11.25 million a year to buy land in wealthy communities like Malibu, and the residents of Whittier will be sickened from oil drilling. How can they say they protect open spaces when they now exploit them? The Mountain Recreation Conservation Authority (MRCA) has opened a Pandora's box regarding land use changes with this settlement. Their decision has implications for the entire state of California. The L.A. County Board of Supervisors can stop this. Please e-mail both Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Mark Ridley-Thomas and tell them not to settle. They need to protect people and the environment.
