It’s been four months since Senator Ayotte voted against criminal background checks and the 89% of her constituents who support them. Since then, she’s screened out constituent questions on the topic, dodged press interviews, and rotated through reasons why she sided with the NRA lobby over Granite State families. It's high time Senator Ayotte held a gun violence prevention town hall so that constituents can speak with her directly about this important topic. Have you heard of Rep. Bob Goodlatte? I’m guessing no. As Chairman of the Judiciary Committee he has a lot of power to shape the immigration proposals that will come out of the House this fall. What is he doing with this power? Some really bad stuff. First, he’s blocking a path to citizenship, even for DREAMers, and second, he wants to make Arizona's horrible "Show Me Your Papers" law the law of the land. This means that instead of promoting what most Americans support -- a path to citizenship -- one of the most powerful voices in the House is joining forces with extremists like Michelle Bachmann to pass a law that would criminalize millions of undocumented Americans. Unfortunately, this is par for the course for Rep. Goodlatte. This summer he voted with Rep. Steve King to reinstate the deportation of DREAMers, recently said he wants to ban DREAMers from ever becoming citizens, and this week told his constituents that he doesn’t mind if immigration fails. "We’ll try, but if we fail, that’s okay," he said. Needless to say, with Rep. Goodlatte in charge, immigration reform will go nowhere! If Republicans are serious about reform, they need to stay away from Rep. Goodlatte and what we like to call the “SAFE to Discriminate” Act. We know the path to citizenship has majority support in the House. With a single action, Speaker Boehner can save his party from irrelevancy by bringing citizenship to a vote. So come September, Speaker Boehner has a decision to make: Will he side with the majority of Americans and let the path to citizenship come to a vote in the House? Or will he side with extremists in the Arizonafication of the country?

"Citizen Koch" was pulled from a national PBS broadcast because of fear of upsetting David Koch, who has been a major donor. But PBS should answer to viewers like me, NOT to billionaires like the Koch brothers - and I want to see this broadcast aired so that citizens can know what we face, to see this documentary. We all have a right and a need to know!

Allow gay marriage in South Carolina.

On Wednesday August 21, 2013 Doña Ana County (NM) Clerk Lynn Ellins began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Earlier this year the City of Santa Fe endorsed a route for same-sex marriages to be recognized under current state law and in July our own attorney general acknowledged in a court filing that New Mexico's equal protection laws demand the state end marriage discrimination. County Clerk Lynn Ellins took the first steps to turn those processes into action by issuing licenses.

The New Hampshire Legislature should act to expand Medicaid coverage as enabled by the Affordable Care Act, providing health care access to an additional 58,000 people, financial stabilities to our families and communities and to do so in a timely manner to ensure that New Hampshire residents get the maximum benefit of their federal tax dollars.
