• Librarians Belong In NYC Schools
New York City Schools are seeking a waiver on state law which requires them to have school librarians in middle schools and high schools. Less than half of NYC schools have a librarian. This is an important resource for our kids and NYC DOE cannot give up on addressing this problem.

  • Apply Leahy Law to Egypt: no U.S. aid to protester-killing police & military
By law, U.S. military aid to Egypt should have been cut off when the democratically elected President was overthrown by a military coup. But a minimal demand is that U.S. military and police aid must be cut off to military and police units that are credibly accused of gross abuses of human rights - like shooting unarmed protesters in the head, neck, and chest - that is - shooting to kill. This cut-off is required by U.S. law. Urge Congress and the President to comply with and enforce the law.

  • Tell Congresswoman Judy Chu to support a discharge petition for comprehensive immigration reform!
Comprehensive immigration reform is dying a slow death in Congress because House Speaker Boehner—who has the power to demand an up-or-down vote on the reform bill—refuses to get out of the way.Bnut there is a simple way that Democrats can bypass Boehner and save immigration reform. They can introduce the Senate bill, which passed with broad bipartisan support, then use a discharge petition to force an up-or-down vote in the House of Representatives.  A discharge petition is the most viable option to pass comprehensive immigration reform this fall. It only takes 218 votes to file a discharge petition—that's every Democrat in Congress and 17 Republicans. Support for the discharge petition is growing in the media and among members of Congress. Millions of hard working families are waiting for the opportunity to have a path to legalization. As a proud American citizen and former undocumented immigrant legalized under the 1986 Amnesty, I support them and want them to know the American Dream is alive and well in 2013! Please join me in asking Representative Judy Chu to support a discharge petition for comprehensive immigration reform!

  • Tell CVS to withdraw its application to build a store in downtown Sebastopol.
CVS wants to build a store at the intersection of two State Highways, with access across lanes of two way traffic. It would bring gridlock to our small downtown. CVS also insists on drive thrus that will further increase stacking of cars on our busiest streets.

  • Representative Ruben Hinojosa support a discharge petition for comprehensive immigration reform
The Senate passed a strong comprehensive immigration reform bill. Immigration reform will strengthen our economy, keep families together, and offer a clear roadmap to citizenship for nearly 11 million tax-paying, aspiring Americans. As a child of immigrant parents, I want to see an immigration reform law passed this year, which is supported by the majority of Americans. The time is now.

  • Pedro should not be separated from his family!
Pedro, a father of four from Elyria, Ohio, is scheduled to be deported this week -- but there is still time for you to help keep him home with his family. Pedro is the primary caregiver for his stepson, Juan, who has cerebral palsy and is entirely dependent upon others to take care of his basic needs. Pedro was a firefighter in Mexico and came to the United States over 10 years ago in search of a job, and built his life with with his wife, Seleste, in Elyria. He has a kind heart and he is exactly the sort of person America should welcome with open arms, not expel. Please sign this petition to stop Pedro's deportation -- Pedro is counting on you. According to policies set by President Obama, there are multiple reasons Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should stop Pedro's deportation – reasons the local ICE office has ignored: He has resided in the U.S. for many years. He is married to a U.S. citizen. He is father of four U.S. citizens. He is the “primary caretaker of a person with a mental or physical disability.” ICE already ignored these factors once: they deported Pedro earlier this year, after the Border Patrol mysteriously showed up at his home when he was returning from his son’s daycare. Pedro returned to the United States because he knew that his family was suffering without him and needed his help—everyone in the family, but especially Juan. Now, ICE is preparing to make the wrong decision again. Pedro is currently being held by ICE in a local county jail, and could be deported this week. When Congress passes immigration reform, Pedro may qualify for immigration status and eventually citizenship. This is all the more reason for ICE to step in now and grant Pedro deferred action until Congress can finish its job. Help keep Pedro with his family: Please contact ICE today.

  • Ban On Graphic Photos In Public Places
It's time to speak up. Many of us are pro life and understand that there is a difference between pro life supporters and anti abortionist activists who utilize hate speeches and often force graphic photos on the public. These photos are offensive to parents who do not utilize abortion. They are disturbing to our children who are not mature enough to understand what they're seeing. They do not belong in public places. In Rockford, we have a conservative and tactful approach to sheltering our children from harmful images such as inappropriate magazines that are placed in paper bags. These images are no acception. If you agree that this is unacceptable, please sign and share this petition to ban such graphic images from public places in Rockford, Il.

  • Tell Representative Huffman: Introduce a comprehensive immigration reform bill and support a disc...
The Senate passed a strong comprehensive immigration reform bill. The House is stalling. Immigration reform will strengthen our economy, keep families together and offer a clear road map to citizenship for nearly 11 million tax-paying aspiring Americans. As an American citizen, I want legislators to stand up on the right side of history and side with the majority of Americans who understand that we need comprehensive immigration reform now.

  • Don’t let energy corporations silence children about fracking!
Gas companies in Western Pennsylvania want to stop the kids who lost their home because of a nearby fracking operation from telling their story. Ever. As part of the legal settlement over the family's farm, the children were placed under a gag order -- for the rest of their lives. Any child impacted by fracking should have a right to speak about their experience if he or she chooses. Fracking contributes to groundwater contamination and climate change through methane leakage, one of the most potent forms of carbon pollution. In 2011, Stephanie and Chris Hallowich reached a settlement with gas companies after a legal fight over the fracking operation next to their farm they said jeopardized their family’s health and quality of life. As part of the settlement, the agreement between the companies and the Hallowich’s was sealed, placing the entire family under a gag order. Now, the children could face serious legal repercussions if they decide to speak out when they are older. When pressed by the media, Range Resources Corporation told reporters it will not enforce the application of the gag order if the children decide to speak. But, the family's lawyer asserts the gag order, as its currently written, could land the kids in legal trouble if they talk publicly about what happened to them -- or the impacts of fracking -- in the future. In order to protect the kids, all three of the companies involved must take the legal steps necessary to remove the children from the gag order. Children should not be forced by dirty energy corporations to remain silent about issues that affect their health and well-being. Thank you for taking action! Corinne Ball, Climate Parents

  • Tell Democratic Party Leaders to Add an Immediate Moratorium to Fran's Fracking Bill
The people of California want a ban on fracking now. The California Democratic Party passed a resolution calling for a fracking moratorium now. http://www.cadem.org/resources/resolutions?id=0616 Right now, the state legislature is considering legislation on fracking, but the leaders of the Democratic Party--Governor Brown, Speaker Perez, President Pro Tem Steinberg--have blocked attempts to pass a moratorium. If we can pressure them to amend Senator Pavley's fracking bill, SB4, to include a moratorium on fracking, we will be closer to getting the outright ban we need to keep our state safe. Fracking and burning the existing 15 billions barrels of oil in the Monterey Shale will cause almost as much global warming as the Keystone XL pipeline. Fracking has been proven to contaminate ground water and the air we breathe with carcinogens and other poisons. We need to ban fracking and other unconventional oil and gas extraction techniques until there is absolute proof that they are safe. Support a ban on fracking and other unconventional extraction techniques now. Tell Governor Brown, President Pro Tem Steinberg, Speaker Perez, and Chairman Gatto: Include a moratorium in any fracking legislation passed by the California legislature, including SB4.

  • STOP unstoppable WSSC Water Rate Increase
If you live in Montgomery or Prince George County in Maryland, are you tired of your water bill going up unstoppably? WSSC has been increased water rate charge for last 7 years (2007-2013) that lead to an eye-popping 160% increase of rate (from $8.45 to $13.52 per unit, and from average $1000 to $1600 per year.) In addition, for families with bigger size, the increase rates are even higher than families with smaller size, which results in double charging for big families. There is no any other public utility service carriers increase rates in such irresonpsible way. As a very conservative user and family, I personally see my bill from $60 per quarter (1 person) grew into $400 per quarter (4 persons), and will be $500 next bill with latest rate increase. Please join me to request 1. WSSC to operate more efficiently and stop the unstoppable rate hikes; 2. Revisit the anti-family-grow rate and change it to flat rate regardless household size. If you want mor information, you can google related topic, especially at www.stopwsscratehikes.org THANK YOU!
